Welcome to the family. The biggest issue with the Streak (In my Opinion) is the relationship with Dell & At&t and the worst launch in history.

I watched the Streak since last April and gave up on it after it was grossly overpriced and not sold via resellers (Wal-Mart, Wirefly, Amazon, etc) which generally brings the prices down.

Then BestBuy started selling them and they finally reduced the price to $99, it may drop even more as CES goes on with more announcements of new devices.

In regards to market, I love AppBrain. You can shop, pick apps and then sync it with your device.

Most apps on the Market are FREE or have a FREE version, I would strongly recommend trying the free version before paying for an App to make sure it works and does what you expect. I have only bought 3 Apps so far and only use 2 regularly, Beautiful Widgets and Wunder Radio. I do plan to support the develops more in the future by making donations to the Apps I use.

Short answer is because the Streak is a Dell product.
If it was any other manufacturer I would have one.

I have rooted, but 2.2 is suppose to release on At&t this week, so I will wait and see. Not sure what it is really going to buy me, better performance, a few apps I want to load, but nothing real earth shattering I suspect.

Default Why get rid of the Iphone?

I have the Dell Streak because a friend of mine gave me his when I lost my Iphone 4 over the holidays. I love the screen size, but that is about it. The Iphone wins in every other category. I kept seeing the commercials about what Droid does, but they don't tell you about all the things Droid doesn't.

1-doesn't search on company names in contacts (are you freakin kidding me?)
2-web browser is horrible
3-camera is not even close to the quality of the Iphone
4-can't accept appointments in Outlook
5-no favorites in dialer
6-no multiple email integration
7-virtually no accessories
8-no ability to update when 2.2 until AT&T says you're ready
9-Steep learning curve
10-no one stop place to sync your phone like iTunes. Must use sync for contacts, marketplace for apps, windows media for songs, etc
11-touch screen is not smooth as all
12-basically Droid sucks and you have to buy/obtain app after app, to make the phone even remotely user friendly.
13-I can go on and on, but you get the idea. Once the iPhone 5 comes out with the bigger screen, I'm running back to Apple!

Im so sorry this is your first experience with Android. But to be honest I think number 9 is the only real issue. Everything else you can do with more Android phones. But the beauty of Android is with that learning curve once you make it over the first hump its a breeze. Just keep at it. And if nothing else try a better Android phone. ATT has some really great phone coming out so you may want to give one thats A little more supported a shot like an HTC or Motorola phone.

You forgot the "doesn't require duct tape" and a few others.

I don't believe the subject of this thread was to start an Iphone/Android debate. I have never owned an Apple product, never even really looked because they are normally grossly overpriced.

But they have great marketing

I guess it is all relative, I come from a Blackberry for the last 6 years, this is my first touch-screen device, most of the items on your list I don't care about or don't have the same problems. I had an X10 for 29 days before I got my streak and hated the size at 4" and can't even consider the Iphone with it's much smaller screen. What makes you think it will get bigger, last year during the I4 announcement Steve said it was the "perfect size". U aren't going to tell me he was lying?

1-doesn't search on company names in contacts (are you freakin kidding me?)
- Havent tried this
2-web browser is horrible
- Lots of options in the market (I personally love DolphinHD), and if you upgrade to 2.2 having multitouch improves the browser experience a ton
3-camera is not even close to the quality of the Iphone
- The Streak's camera blows
4-can't accept appointments in Outlook
- Outlook blows, but valid point for some
5-no favorites in dialer
- False (I'm not sure about 1.6 but it's there in 2.2)
6-no multiple email integration
- False
7-virtually no accessories
- plenty of cases and such, only problem is usb cables
8-no ability to update when 2.2 until AT&T says you're ready
- It literally takes 10 minutes to go from at&t 1.6 to O2 2.2, google it
9-Steep learning curve
- You get out what you put in
10-no one stop place to sync your phone like iTunes. Must use sync for contacts, marketplace for apps, windows media for songs, etc
- I see this as a plus, I hate itunes
11-touch screen is not smooth as all
- I have no problems, maybe try calibrating
12-basically Droid sucks and you have to buy/obtain app after app, to make the phone even remotely user friendly.
- What do you want to do with your phone that you cant do with an iphone? And most apps have a sufficient free version
13-I can go on and on, but you get the idea. Once the iPhone 5 comes out with the bigger screen, I'm running back to Apple!
- Good luck getting an iphone with anything larger than 4", it will probably be 3.5" again...

Thanks to all who responded to my complaint/rant. Don't get me wrong, I really want to love my Streak, but it just is not a very good device when compared to an Iphone. I challenge everyone to show me an actually link to how to upgrade to 2.2? Everyone talks about how easy it is, but no one has an link that actually works.

So you are saying this didn't work?

Beyond QDLTool

Using QDLTool will get you to a pre-release of v2.2. From here, you’ll want to upgrade to a newer release. The two options that people tend to choose from are to either go up to the official v2.2 ROM from Dell, or install DJ_Steve’s latest ROM.

Official ROM

If you want to go to the latest official ROM from Dell, simply set up your wifi connection, then go to Streak 2.2 Rom form Dell in the browser on the phone. You should be able to download and run to install the update.

I sold my iPhone 4 to get a Streak, and aside from ONE ea mobile game, I don't miss anything about the iPhone. The iPhone is great because it works, and it's simple, but thats it. Generally, if you want your iPhone to do anything it wasn't shipped with the ability to do, then 9 times out of 10 you are screwed. The Streak, for me, got off to a rocky start, but after I did QDL and updated to the official unlocked Dell rom, I really have no complaints. It all boils down to what you like. We could go on for ever talking shit about android and IOS, but it all boils down to what you like. Take everyone's gripes and comments with a grain of salt. You have a 30 day return window to decide whether it's for you or not. The only thing I would recommend is to QDl and put 2.2 on it before making any judgements.

1. Crappy advertising/ "soft" launch
2. Only offered at BB or Dell.com
3. MOST AT&T employees don't even know it exists
4. Most people who even notices it at BB thinks its just a tablet
5. Its too big of a phone for a lot of ppl
6. Android 1.6!!!
7. Was $299 on 2year contract, pricey

What I've been told by several different BB employees is that most of the streaks that they sell are sold to customers that have researched or followed the product and come in just to buy it, rather than to someone who just happens to walk by and not know what it is.

Sooo....going back to reasons 1-3, I'm just gonna say that people just aren't aware of it as they are with the iPhone, Galaxy S, and other popular phones.
