Talking Just orderd a 3000mah battery any ideas for cases to fit?

As anyone who has gone or thought of going down this route knows the disadvantages of a longer life battery is a bigger battery! I use my phone at work a lot and find i was having to lug around my charger with me all the time as the battery wouldn't even last to the end of my 8 hour shift i then had to keep half charging it as i had to unplug it to go home battery technology like lithium ion may have improved a lot from years ago but i was always told that to keep half charging a battery or changing a half drained battery would kill it eventual. If i am wrong then please correct me on this but that is how i try and run my battery empty completely then full charge. as soon as i have received it i will report back.

To my second point has anyone seen any good case that might fit a slightly porky desire? I am told it adds about 5mm to the thickness and as nearly all cases on eBay are a good fit (or at least look that way) i feel sure that it would not squeeze in.

Any help would be well received thanks.

Actually.... I just had a wee look and maybe about 5mm is right enough. But yeah, none of the standard cases will fit that, maybe you need to get down to your local market and see what you can find.

I have a case brought from the orange store that is a pouch type that clips on and would easily hold your now bigger desire. Its not a looker, but function wise it would both protect and fit.

This looks ideal as i am out on my mountain bike a lot and would like the added protection this type off case would offer. Is it armored or just padded? would you recommend this case for biking? i tend to have my phone in a mount on my bike but for jorneys to and from work i could see no point. if anyone is looking for some sort off bike mount for there phone then i am going to upload a vid to you tube i can post the link on here if anyone would like to see it. This is he mount i got Bike Bicycle Mount Holder For iPhone Cell Phone GPS MP3 on eBay (end time 04-Sep-10 14:53:13 BST)

Just padded, it has got a side zip pocket and a separate inside pouch for a cloth. I have dropped my phone once with it in the case and no damage. As its slightly bigger it means the phone can be taken out quickly and easily with no fuss.

Not into bikes so cannot really comment on how good it would be for that purpose, sorry.

Good luck with finding something suitable, thinking of getting the same sort of battery for my phone as I'm starting work in a few days time.

Can you tell us how good the battery is and how long it lasts when you get it.

Thanks

I think there are some camera bags out there thick enough, this might be a challenge since the phone is about 120mm tall and now you add another 5mm to thickness... There were some digital camers about that size over 5 years ago.

ye chris no problem i am planing some sort of sientific (ish) test by charging the orriginal battery and running one off the strob apps (they realy kill battrey life) and timeing how long it lasts then doing the same with the new battery. this may seem abit sad but i bet there aren't many people out there reading this that wouldn't be interested in just how much more battery life it would have with an extended battery.

hi all Sry about the long wait but only just received the battery and all I can say is DO NOT BUY AN EXTENDED BATTERY FOR YOU PHONE AT LEAST NOT FROM THE SELLER kr-net OF EBAY COZ IT WILL **** YOUR PHONE! ok here's what happened I got the battery put it In ma phone charged it up over night then in the morning the charge went down quicker than with the standard battery then when it hit 80% ma phone turned of and the battery was flat when I tryed to turn it back on it read 0% then turned off again even when it was on charge it kept turning off and on again! Now with the original battery in it just turned of again in my pocket! Contacted the seller but not holding out much hope. They even included a card with the battery that sed if I give them full positive feed back they will refund me $2 luckily I always wait until I am happy with the item until I give any feed back at all surely they aren't allowed to do that are they?! To say I am abit cheesed off is a massive understatement!

Whatever happens I hope you report them for falsifying the feedback system.

Sorry to hear that, but to be honest, that's the risk you take when you buy from Ebay - dishonest retailers and fake items. I've read about lots of aftermarket batteries that have regular capacity but have wrong capacity ratings on them. I recall reading that many batteries made in China have very poor quality control and often have only 60-70% capacity of good batteries from honest manufacturers! That means a 2000mAH battery could have the same or less capacity than the original 1400mAH pack!

I've also seen a lot of stuff out of China that has completely false capacity ratings. I once saw a small water bottle that said it was 2.3 liters but obviously it was less than 1 liter. People who don't know the difference will buy it because it says it has more capacity than the water bottle in the other stores. Then you have to worry about where the plastic in the bottle came from and is it toxic. It's awful really and because of this I refuse to buy anything made in China if it involves food/drink and/or does not come from a reputable company.

Anywho, about your problem, I doubt it harmed the phone, but what may have happened is the calibration of the phone and battery could be way off now. Try this calibration procedure:

The following steps should significantly extend the battery life on your phone. Please connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green, indicating the device is fully charged. Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off. Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on. Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again and reconnect it to the charger until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone, power it on, and use it.

I would definitely report them to Ebay...paying for positive feedback is like a bribe!

I know it takes the piss the only problem with ebay I've found in the past is that as long as they get there cut then they don't care If you have had a problem they just tell you to contact the seller and do every thing they can to stay out of It they should really take more responsibility. I have managed to contact the seller tho and they have agreed to send another battery out so who knows maybe they will send one of the good ones to try and keep me sweet as soon as I am happy tho I will definitely report them to eBay for all the good It will do anyway.

This is EXACTLY how I would sum up my experience and i've said the same thing almost word for word in the past!

I've been told the 'try to contact the seller' line even after telling them the seller refuses to respond to any communication!

Default Adapt a silicone one

Turn the phone around so the new cover is against the case. Use a felt tip to draw around it. Cut with a razor knife around it. This gives a slot for the extra space to poke out. If the back is scratched it will not affect resale value when the original is refitted. It allows me to keep the phone secure on a curly chain on my belt.

See picture.
