Unlocking HTC Desire on Orange UK
I recently de-branded my Desire and installed Android 2.2 with the help of this excellent forum. All the time my Desire has been locked to Orange and has worked fine. I finally decided to go the whole way and root which meant unlocking the SIM...
First, I tried to get Orange to give me the unlock code for free by telling them that I live in a very poor reception area (I do) and that I was having to use an old phone with a Tesco PAYG SIM in it. They disagreed that I lived in a poor reception area and said they'd unlock my phone for £20 (I've been a customer of theirs for over 10 years BTW!). It would take around 14 days before I received the unlock code too. I thought this was pretty poor so resorted to Google...
I found this guy on eBay:

I paid £6.25 via PayPal at 17:13 and received the unlock code together with instructions via e-mail at 20:50 the same day, so about 3 and a half hours later. The unlock code worked straight away (although I had to input it twice as pre-warned). I reckon this guy deserved a mention on the forum as he's cheap but more importantly quick and reliable. I highly recommend him.
