Just flashed Gingervillain 1.0 and loving it. It's like Oxygen, just with more bits and bobs.

I have decided that I want to try a new gingerbread rom. I have been using Cyanogen nightlies all this time.

I was wondering does anyone know any others which have a better stability for gingerbread?

Thanks

Lot of people using Gingervillain. If you've been using CM then GV might be more to your tastes than Oxygen, as it has the cyanogen extras. If you want plain gingerbread, Oxygen 2.0 is the thing to try.

I haven't experienced any instability in the CM7 nighlies myself. Leedroid is supposed to be a good stable rom. I find it a bit of a bore.

I like the one in my sig. Slick, fast and trouble free. Been through about 8 before I settled on this.

Some very quick quadrant scores compared to other roms.

I'll tell you what I don't like about Gingervillain, however, and that's the 3 seconds at the start of a call, where nobody can hear me.

Oh, and this isn't just a Gingervillain issue, but is there a single ROM out there, which i compatible with my HTC headset? When I'm in a call, I can hear people with the earphones, but the mic doesn't work anymore...

I wanna install custom ROM having good battery backup. Don't lose HTC Sense too. I found Froyo StarBurst ROM having sense UI. StarBurst – Sense ROM for the Desire with Data2SD
If anybody is using or used it, please share your observation (at least battery backup).
One thing that I observed some ROM support CPU over clocking (also this one). Doesn't it reduce battery backup time if CPU is overclocked?

HTC Desire with StarBurst ROM is showing top on the rank in Quadrant benchmarking app having score 1740!!.

Why is everyone so obsessed with Sense? I find it to be ugly as hell. The big grey layouts, eww.. One of the main reasons I wanted to root in the first place. Google's own apps feel so much better.

It looks like the Desire will get an official Gingerbread update in Q2. Does that mean that it should (in theory) be better and more stable that the ported GB ROM's around at the moment?

I havent found them unstable but if its an official release its a posibility.

That said, I found defrost much more stable than stock. Maybe stable isnt the work. Should I say Android contacts works where as HTC people does not.

I've had the branded 2.1 HTC Sence, and Sense-based LeeDrOiD. I actually like them both, but I use LauncherPro so the UI is way down my list of priorities. I'm leaning towards a simple ROM where everything works, without any bells-n-whistles added, then use LP as my UI again.

GV 1.2 seems to have fixed the audio call delay problem (I say *seems* because I've never actually had the problem myself). Another problem popped up with GV 1.2 and that's an echo that some ppl reported getting during calls, but richardtrip just issued a patch to fix that one.

In Villain setup there's a fix for both the echo as the mobile data bug. Runs great now. Once the official update comes out, I'll flash it and see what it's like. I liked the sense keyboard and apps, but not the dock. I rooted for A2SD and Gingerbread.

Im still running Defrost 6. Cant fault it! Get 2 days out of my battery, so happy days!
Tried lots of roms but always seem to go back to Defrost.
I like GV but dont like the delay on call answering.
I cant decide on what to try next..

I'm using GV v1.8 and it suits my taste - fast, stable, pure + CM settings. Can be configured as you like. Using it together with GO Launcher EX.

Using Oxygen. Its slick and gives great battery life. Not issues using it.

I have used GV, found it less slick and had a few (small) hiccups here and there.

But they both very similar.

I've been using Redux 1.2 with powersave for the past day and night.
The standby/sleep battery life seems incredible almost to the point of impossible.
On standby overnight GV would go down to about 93% over 6 hours.
Redux was at 99% this morning and that was because I turned to screen on to look at the time and also deleted two emails that arrived overnight.

Redux almost doesn't seem to use battery on standby - it must be Voodoo
Very impressed.

The ROM seems to be smooth and lag free in use as well.

Its a surprisingly good rom for something so light and battery life is much better than GV.

I am ashamed to say, I'm not going back.

On HSDPA I am pulling 4mA on standby (same as GV) with manu 1.4, but its much more consistant.

I've got to admit if I don't run into any problems I may not be going back either.
The battery life is the best I have found so far.
Would I get any better battery using the manU kernel over the powersave setting in the default kernel?

Never had a problem with manU but haven't had any lag problems with powersave setting in Redux either.

You can use powersave on any kernel. Yes probably the manu kernel is the best ive tried for battery.

No shame in it - may have to try it myself sometime.

I'm actually finding that right now, with a -95 -> -100 dBm 3G/HSDPA signal I'm pulling 2-3 mA in standby. About the same with 2G (-71 dBm) and no data. This is about as low as I've ever managed with my handset, and I think the lowest I've managed with 3G active. WiFi in standby draws more (about 5 mA, sitting quite close to router). This is with the leaked drivers but a different RIL - I tried again, but the leaked RIL really doesn't work for me.

Trouble is, I'm not back in my normal routine (I'm working from home this week) so it's hard to compare battery life with the norm. So I should prob. try this setup next week for a few days before I think about testing Redux.

Yes test as much as possible for fair comparisson. When you're not in normal routine, its too hard to compare.

I second redux. The battery life woes that I've had with stock (unrooted) & GV have vanished. It really is astounding.
I like the simplicity of Redux too. I hated sense, and used to use LPP, but to be honest, I really prefer the standard android layout.
It's like a blank canvas, and I can do what I bloody well please with it! Well done redux *slow applause, and a shake of the head* well done!

It's not Sense itself, it's the Sense apps, the look of the dialer, contacts (people), gallery, peep and other apps are just clean and looks nice over AOSP's apps. Even with Sense I run alternative launchers, not a huge fan of Sense's Rosie launcher but I do like the HTC lockscreen, slide down is more ergo for me than sliding right- at least CM7 has the "lens" lockscreen.

Personally I like the Sense widgets, clock and apps like dialler and contacts.
But I hate the launcher dock with a passion because it can't be customised, it's ugly and basic.
If I could change the buttons on the dock (and have 5 of them) like a 3rd party launcher I might consider sense again.

Having said that, AOSP is just faster and smoother and it makes Sense feel bloated and overweight, ASOP just has less features and integration than Sense.

I dunno about that, the teppic74 prerooted rom (basically stock with a couple addons) is quite snappy, even better with the kernel I flashed- AuraxTSense and Leedroid too. Apps open up instantly, rather than 5-8 seconds on Insertcoin, RCMixHD, and other Sense based roms.

Cool What ROMs are you all using & why?

Hey guys!

Just interested to know what ROMs are you all using on your Desires, and why are you using that particular one? (I am considering changing my ROM from GingerVillain just as a change )

Also... Is there a stable Gingerbread Sense ROM yet, and is there any Sense 3.0 ROMs yet?

>>> THANKKS!! <<<

Im using
[ROM][7/05][Sense2.1+Sense3.0 GB]InsertCoin CM7/STOCK v20 - xda-developers

uses GB with sense 2.1 with parts of sense 3 added, works well with only a few minor bugs which are mostly for stuff I dont use and ppl have reported good battery life from it too.

2 versions as well 1 with a2sd+ using stock hboot and 2nd version is cm7 using alpharev cm7 custom hboot

I was looking at that the other day myself. Do you know what the benefits of using the cm7 hboot are? That thread is so large and I haven't stumbled over the answer yet...

Benefit if CM7 hboot is that it has a bigger /data partition so you can fit more apps on there without having to use a2sd+

GV 2.2...and suuuuper happy with the battery life since installing Juice Defender beta. I now get a good 2.5 days out of it, 30min of surfing, 1hr of music, checking emails every 20min, 5min call every hour, and tons of texts. Screen brightness is set to "auto" too.

Using LP Plus on top of stock, and the GV stock Kernel. Battery hasn't been calibrated since installing the ROM.

After getting my desire in Jan, I started getting low space problem very soon.

So started with simplest Leedroid 2.3 sense A2SD+ ROM. no drastic change and I get more space on my ext3 partition. Perfect for the start.

But with that I want Sense HD ROM to get more out of Sense. So tried Insertcoin it was great but bit lagged on my desire so now I wanted more speed and upgrade.

Best Rom that time was oxygen and gingervillain. I wanted more feature so gone with GV. great rom with speed and battery life and very stable.

Few days ago I got tired of same look so tried MIUI-XJ ROM. Wow totally revamped interface and very snappy.

So for me best ROM as of now is GV and MIUI-XJ till I get bored of this and might go back to sense 3.0 (updated) ROM.
