I love Defrost 6.1 (not a) but I'm now loving GingerVillain (also by Richard trip).

Its not missing much from defrost, but its missing a little.

However I find the battery life good (others have reported problems though.)

The greatest thing about it was I was able to flash from defrost with no wipe, so if you try it, try that first.

Of course if you do have issues, you will have to wipe before anyone will take your issue seriously.

Just for reference, there is a root sub forum for the desire here:

Go between MIUI and stock. Running stock at the moment as it's my own build and have kinda fallen in love with Sense again - don't remember it being as quick as it is

You should name it.

If I ever created a rom, it would be "Dandroid". Unfortunately this is far too close to the similarly named "Leedroid" but I've already got the custom splash and boot animation

Oxygen RC7 because I still have 71% battery left after nearly 20 hours.
I have the battery usage logs to prove it!

It all depends on usage. You may get that on other roms too. Not that I am trying to persuade you to change or anything.

This is maybe as good a place to ask as any, does your avatar say IDANDROID on purpose?

Anyway I'm back to Leedroid 2.3d after giving Oxygen and Gingervillain a go. I might try them again (I did like how lean Oxygen was) in the next week or so, but Leedroid has done really well by me.

I prefer CM. It is pretty clean yet and has its own little boost ups like built in updater. It is fairly stable unless someone suggest something better?

Indeed it does and i've been using it.

I have tried T-mobile rom, HTC stock Rom, cyanogenmod, leedroid and oxygen and have found oxygen latest edition with latest radio gives me the BEST performance and batterylife.

I use Push Email to my exchange server from 7am to 10pm about 100 emails daily. I use the internet for sky news and facebook regular, 3g HSDPA is always on. about 40 texts a day and occassional satnav(which usually takes about 20% for a 60-90 mins outting.

Like SUroot my preference is DeFroST or GingerVillain. Technically DF is a little more refined, but GV has come far enough that it doesn't feel worth flipping back any more.

Why? I like AOSP more than Sense, and RichardTrip's ROMs include a nice selection of little extras (CyanogenMod and others) without being cluttered. Plus stability is good - I like fiddling and tweaking, but it has to work reliably.

Well if you feel experimental, I see references in the coutss kernel thread to an 825 mV version (though it's not linked from the first post)

If 875 works well for you, you could try it. I've not tried this myself - this is just something I've spotted in passing, and in no way a personal recommendation...

Edit: Alternatively, EViollet has been building some battery-optimised kernels, in 2.2 and 23 flavours. You could give one of those a spin.

Ive just installed Ginger Villain 0.9 very similar to Defrost. I suppose it is the same dev.
Had a problem with mobile internet so tried re-install and that sorted it.
Liking GV 0.9 atm but just love testing and changing roms.
Not brave enough to change radios yet.
Wonder what to test next???

First ROM was LeeDroid 2.2f, and updated at every release to 2.3d. I chose it because it's based on a Sense ROM and could be flashed over my old Orange 2.2 FroYo update without needing any complicated stuff (at the time) like radios.

I really like 2.3d but I'm starting to look at Gingerbread ROM's. I like the idea behind AOSP but need to read about the pitfalls involved with changing to a non-Sense OS.

EDIT: "Nonsense" hee hee!

First ROM was Defrost 1.6 or 1.8(can't remember ). I then moved back to Sense with the Sense Froyo leak(I think it was AdamG's version). After that, I jumped about a lot through Vanilla, Sense and MIUI. Gave up Sense a good while back. Defrost was my favorite ROM, but I'm now using Oxygen because Gingerbread tastes good.

My first rom was Leedroid but I was tempted to try some of the DHD roms, my favourite so far has been Baadnewz DHD, I like(d) the skin options and the (now no longer functioning for me) phone finder. I have that as my Nandroid back up, but I'm currently trying out a 0.6 Z rom (bigger fonts ...yaaaay).

I've also tried one of the MIUI roms but it wasn't really to my liking, also just removed Gingervillain 0.9 but I found that I was making it look like a HTC Sense rom .... so I thought I may as well go back to what I seem to like the most.

I agree, every other Rom I used, I found myself trying to replicate sense. Then I tried Miui and I loved it. Neat touches like the ability to change the LED colour, the messaging themes or the power bar widget all built right into the rom. Sure, some of these can be done in sense, but it's a hassle and they never work as seamlessly and flawlessly. I find myself torn between the two roms. I love miui, but miss things like the official sense clock, the linking contacts and the widgets. There are alternatives, but they are never the same.

As much choice as android offers, I am still to find my perfect solution (/ rom).

that might be a kernal issue as opposed to the rom.
voltages play a big part in this

What kernel?

Like rasta says, your min voltage is probably too low when idle and not enough power to keep the cpu "ticking over"

Theres an LED bug in 6.1a. Get 6.1, also recommend using a 6.0c Kernel

Agree...fast, stable and very good on battery life.

Think he's calling it "Insertcoin" rom now btw...if anyone is looking for it.

To be fair to him he was pretty good at the start but people kept on asking the same old questions over and over...despite most of the answers being on the pg1 FAQ...

Stuff like..how do i create an EXT partition and will this ruin my warranty....

Then he needs to ignore those posts, it's that simple.

Not everyone is a dev and he comes off as an arrogant ... in the process.

Don't really care, I'll just use his rom and he has to live with himself.

Cyanogen mod settings for battery percentage overlay on stock icons, Custom colours for status and notification and optimised 3d graphics.

This one? [ROM-AOSP GRH78C] Oxygen v2.0-RC7 (Gingerbread, clean, fast and 100% open-sourced!!) - xda-developers

I'm sure when I used that last week it has video recording.

I am on stock rom. Why? I love it and I love to see the "An update is available..." when an official OTA update is rolled out!

+ I think it must be one of the most stable roms.

I remember when I had Omnia i900 I was constantly wasting time upgrading to different roms in order to make it better. It was like a quest for a "holy grail", never to be found...

The Desire on the other hand has a f&*() great stock rom!

stay with stock as long as you can as then your desire will take longer to become dated in your mind!!!
my train of thought is like this
if you start customising immediately then you get used to the top end side of roms quickly and once youve found the holy grail there is no where else to go, you get bored and start over tweeking
if you take your time and only make a change when you have got tired of your desire in its current state then adding a new custom rom will give it a new lease of life again.

I agree Rastaman. I used my Desire on 2.1 for about 4 months waiting for the FroYo update, then after another month of constant low storage warnings I rooted and added a ROM with A2SD+ support. THAT was my only reason to flash a new ROM, but I'm so glad I did. Having experienced the factory installed ROM for a while I could see the improvements and had a benchmark to compare against.

I'm using my own and I like it, does what I need it to do and I don't have to faff about with updates unless I want to do it
