Thanks SUroot,
I repeated the unrevoked step to find details of the error message and (of course) this time it worked fine. So the phone is now rooted; I have the superuser icon and the ClockworkMod recovery screen. Excellent ,thanks.
But.... now I cant get off the recovery screen. The volume controls take me up and down the menu, but the power button won't activate any of the options. Instead it just blanks the screen. A second press reactivates the screen but I cant select menu options. All other buttons (except volume) either act the same or do nothing.
I've download the UnrEVOked software. But I'm not allowed to install it. I've got a Win 7 64bit laptop. I've tried running it in compatibility mode, but no luck. Anyone know anything? Cause really need to fix my phone. Cheers
as shown in the above pic, the program give me this indication and the process did not continued. I tried to re-do the process for several times but I always get the same screen !!
im super lost and have been trying to do this for days! everything I try is a dead end. it says i have the boot loader interface but unrevoked wont find my phone! its not my antivirus either.

my hboot is 1.06. the recommended site does not have this for a option.
Looks like you missed this part of THIS guide:

HBOOT 1.02 OR HIGHER
For hboot 1.02 or higher, there is a joint project by the unrevoked and alpharev teams. It is very much in BETA phase at the moment so try this, as always - at your own risk.
I got revoked to find my phone finally but it said iinternel error failed to unlock NAND flash. i have no idea what this means.
I dont know why you are still trying to do this. I already told you its not compatible. Please read the posts we have made in response to your previous posts before posting other information.
AS PER POST 1, UNREVOKED IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 1.06!!!!!

ok you are using a cdma desire by the checks ive done with the little info you have provided us, this is supported Revolutionary
which suroot already advised!!!!!
We are getting frustrated as you are ignoring the questions we have asked you. if you re read the posts after your first ones you can see weve asked specific questions and you have ignored them.
Reading has nothing to do with being new. if you ask for help you should respond with the answers to the questions weve asked.
we cannot support you very well without this information.
If you had said, yes it is a desire, its a cdma desire and im still trying to use unrevoked
then we would not be having this debate

The thing is, I think you should read through things fully before doing any of this. Not to be rude, but you have missed things in this guide that I thought should be obvious so you should read through the revolutionary documentatuion a handful of times before actually undertaking the procedure. We actually recommend this anyway.
when the revoltionary site prompts you for the device model chose HTC Desire CDMA
as SUroot states, its important to read things through many times and understand them
this is a complex device you are toying with and while the rooting/s-off methods are reletively simple in practice. if something goes wrong its not simple to repair

indeed, do not follow them. most are dated and no one offers support if things go wrong
the best guides for the desire are 100% on this forum, no where else.
they are mostly text base but all of them assume no prior knowledge so are written in step by step for you to work through and understand

hey guys need help - I am trying to install hBoot drivers to root with unrevoked but the device manger does not show "Android 1.0" as suggested. It just says other device. But I tried updating it to the unrevoked drive anyway and it seems to have worked. The device manager shows: Android Phone - Android Bootloader Interface. Is this going to give me problems later on?
Also the guide says I need to turn on the phone normally when running unrevoked. Should I connect as USB Charge Only? the guide does not seem to be clear on this.

It wont (or shouldnt) matter if its charge only, mass storage or just left without selecting. Its been a long time for me so thanks for pointing this out

Well guys/gals, I'd like to thank you all for the incredibly helpful advice you've given other people in this thread. I just discovered this forum today and it has already helped me immensely.
So today I tried to root my Wildfire S using the unrEVOked method, only to discover at the last step that my phone was not supported (the error message was: "device 'marvel' is not supported at this time").
It's obviously my fault for not discovering this before I set out to do it, but I'd still like to figure this out. Can someone point me in the right direction for an alternate solution?

Hiya,
This guide is just for the desire really. There may be a guide in the wildfire s forum that is more appropriate.
Hi All,
My HTC Desire informs me I have only 9MB of internal storage and having read a few forums I understand that Rooting will help. I know absolutely nothing about phones and all the terminology used and I've found my way to your Guide hoping it will help. I'm reluctant to start using the guide because a lot of still doesn't mean anything to me. I need a real bog standard beginners guide? I got this far and got stuck ....
We need to check if your software version is the ARA build (2.xx.415.x) this is the Arab build. Note the 415.
According to my phone it is 2.17.61.3 ????
What should I do now? I'm so sorry to ask what are probably stupid questions. Is there any easier way of increasing my internal memory? I've deleted all my photos and videos and moved all of my Apps to my SD card. I don't have many Apps anyway and can't update anything at the moment, what is using up all the memory? I'm happy to have a go at Rooting but fear it's a bit above my very basic knowledge.
Thanks anyway, any help or advice would be really appreciated.
Device(s): HTC Desire (rooted and thoroughly modded)

No problem - it's just that if you had the ARA software you needed to use a particular version of the tool. According to Google 2.17.61.3 is Orange UK branded - does that sound right to you? If so you can ignore the ARA stuff and carry on.
Application data takes up space as well as the app itself. Go into the "Applications" menu, select manage applications, look at all and sort by size (I think Froyo might even let you sort by data size - been a long time since I ran that). That should give you a clue as to what is using your space. There are apps that can do this, but I'm guessing you don't want to have to install another app at this point! In particular, look out for social networking apps, email apps, "contacts storage", and check whether any of these is using excessive space.

Hi,
Thanks so much for that, Yes, I am with Orange so I'll ignore that bit and go onto the next step. I may be back on here soon if I get stuck. Not feeling too confident but seeing as I've already deleted anything of any importance from my phone what harm can I do eh!!
