Hey guys I'm just another newbie trying to get around to rooting my desire. I'm finding it a little confusing. I just read that ROM managers are to be avoided. Then there's the SLCD and AMOLED differences, ARA build (which mine isn't) differences mentioned in suRoot's tutorial,hboot required of not,etc.
I was hoping for someone to point me in the right direction and maybe a decent tutorial fight from rooting to installing a custom ROM (Considering [ROM][03/06][STABLE][Sense2.1+3.0 GB]InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.0.8

SLCD model of the HTC Desire A8181 [UNBRANDED]

Software Information:
Android version 2.2
Software number - 2.13.720.2

Please guide me to a tutorial that will help me understand the process better. Sorry for the newbie question but i thought i was confident till just around 20 minutes ago when i was about to start the rooting process.

This was also asked ina PM so to save anyone duplicating my response, here is what I replied:


Yours isnt ARA, but it is branded HTC Asia. You should make a gold card. Also be aware that there is no current RUU newer than 2.1 so be aware that you will not be able to easily return it to stock.

In regards to custom roms, only use recent ones and you'll have no issues with SLCD. Use the link in the "all about rooting" sticky thread.

Also follow my unrevoked guide to root. Ensure you check the PVT / Erase size as this is important.

The 2.1 RUU for HTC Asia is old so may not support SLCD so this is worth baring in mind. Its best to reside to the fact that you cannot return to stock.

As for flashing the rom, read our rooting FAQ. There are steps in there. There will also be requirements you will need to meet for the specific rom you choose, in its thread.
