As an alternative to putting the APN data in by hand, I used an app called APN Manager to back up my APNs from CM7 and then restore them when I'd installed dGB.

I thought I'd got the APNs backed up with Ti, obviously not eh! I'll use APN mgr to back them up and go again.
I was also getting FCs when trying to select a wallpaper, but I did restore some system data with TI so it might have been that.

Out of interest, when you guys first install the rom, do you allow google to restore your apps, or do you just download Ti and restore with that?

Restore as little as possible, especially system data wise.

SMS, Call logs, Contacts, apn's really should be the maximum. Then with Ti, do a "Restore missing apps WITH data", but deselect anything rom related.

EDIT> Ive never used that google restore option. I always use Ti, SMS backup+ for my restores.

Restore system stuff like apns from titanium. it will end in problems

manually put them in. it takes 2 minutes
i had to put in the o2 ones for mms and mobile web. its not a big deal

Afraid I'm similar - I don't use the google app/setting backup thing.

Ti for apps, and while I have SMS Backup+ (automatic backup has saved me a couple of times) I usually use MyBackup Pro for SMS and call logs just because restore is faster. I tried the APN restore from Ti but it didn't work for me, which is why I went back and installed APN manager .

I also find that Ti doesn't always restore app data when moving between ROMs - the app is generally fine, but I sometimes cannot get the data to restore. Seems to depend on what ROMs I'm moving between, e.g. I can never get Astrid tasks to restore from Ti when moving from CM-based to Redux. Hence if an app has an option to back up its data to SD, especially to do scheduled backups, I generally enable this as a precaution.

wipe and start again, you may have already restored something from system in titanium that causes that force close

There are no real wallpapers so you need to select via gallery or zedge

Genie is that battery drain news widget

Is that why it FCs then?
does Genie really drain the battery? Is there a better alternative?
@ rasta, I'll give quickpic a go...

Dunno. I use go launcher, so if I long press homescreen and go to wallpaper, I get 3 options

1) Gallery - I use this
2) GO wallpeprs
3) Wallpapers - these are the built in ones, of which there are none. It brings up a black screen with Set wallpaper. If you "set wallpaper" where there aren't any, it will force close.

Going back to the Google restore, I don't use that now as it backed up several apps I no longer want nor need, and it just downloads them all. Causing loads of problems.
+1 for quick pic, its much better than stock gallery.
Apn manager works a treat also.
I just want to figure out how to install an apk through recovery, then I would be able to run these kind of thinks on the fly.

3. Correct!
Something is not quite right, as every notification sets the phone buzzing and bleeping....
I'll try again tomorrow. BUT eff me it is a FAST ROM!

I use my own preferred notifications, no problem.

Another vote for quickpic - I don't have the patience for gallery3d

Eg. Ti backup issues a notification for each app it restores during a batch. Couldn't stop it...
might be just a settings issue so don't want to sat its an issue yet. I'll have another flash tonight see if its better.
I'm maybe restoring thing incorrectly?

i have the prokey version so it silent installs
i think TI has always notified after each install to make you click the accept button for the next

Quite possible. The one I've learned to watch is Ti's maximum number of backups defaulting to 1 when I change ROMs.

right here we go again...
Wiped and flashed. Got a different wallpaper this time (instead of the default black one as per last 2 flashes?) Ti restoring apps now, (missing apps + data). No silly notifications so far.
How long does APN mgr take to restore? Been restoring for a good few mins now...

APN Manager sucks, took about 5 mins to tell "APNS restored with errors". So i'll just have to enter them manually from here:
Android UK News, Reviews and Allsorts Orange UK APN and Network Settings
If anyone has any better settings let me know!

Did you do apps WITH data? Thats the one you want.

Did you also unselect anything that looks rom specific?

I didn't back up ANYTHING ROM specific, but I'll deffo check.

APNS manually entered. So now have data. Anyone on Orange know if you have to enter an APN to get the T-Mobile roaming working?

No special APN for Orange/T-Mob roaming that I'm aware of - I certainly only installed the regular orangeinternet and orangemms APNs.

Cheers Hadron. All I've got too.

Well its running nice, all apps restored, homescreens set back up, still got 60+mb free and not flashed the HBOOT yet.

I thought I'd have to trim down my app list without sd-ext, but actually not at all:

* Previously:
CM7, edited to fit Oxygen r2 (100/5/333)
> 120 apps.
DarkTremor a2sd, dalvik on internal, .android_secure empty
~125 MB free internal space

* Now: dGB, custom hboot (70/5/363)
same 120+ apps
no sd-ext, larger apps moved to .android_secure
~120 MB free internal space.

and as you can see I've not even pushed the partitioning to the limit.

Really rather impressed

another query, the un/lock screen sounds doesn't make a noise? Is this cos there are no default sounds? or have I STILL got a bug in my install. Not a biggie but its nice to hear the sound to confirm a screen lock.

When I flashed the ROM I didn't have to set any settings up, I wouldn't know how to all I did was input the code for my WiFi

Still loving this ROM, its so slick I don't know how I could ever go back to a standard ROM with all the junk.

Yeah you can, just add a folder called ui in system/media/audio and add the contents. They're not very big. 40k in total I think. I'd suggest not adding the camera ones though aas theyre really annoying.

Had to ask. Ha ha. Not doing it at xda. Only those who question their dev status seem to do that. Not tarnishing my account with that brush

Much as I like Redux, I'm considering giving this a go as my intention is to remove a load of stuff from Redux 2 when it's finalised.

EDIT: removed spurious question after re-reading first post.

Are you still planning to update dGB to incorporate some of Redux 2 once it's completed?

Do you recommend switching to the ManU after installation? What's the pros/cons of (not) doing so?

Thanks.

Once Ihlades releases the source code for Redux 2 (which he said he will do once Redux 2 final is released and stable for a while) I will certainly be investigating anything in there I could learn from, yes.

manU kernel is a very battery efficient kernel. It has faster USB transfer speeds than newer kernels and lower power consumption. Added to which if you read his thread, you can learn how to set your own voltages if you are a bit more advanced. definitely recommended. I wanted to build the rom with that kernel but havent got to that yet.

Okay, thanks for that. I change things fairly infrequently so although I've flashed kernels before it's always something I have to re-learn.

I'll make the decision over the weekend...
