Exclamation What RUU to take for out of box state?

I have a HTC Desire, with CM7. But I want to sell it, so now I need to unroot it.

I am S-ON, CM7, and with Amon Ra + Ext partition.
I want to get my phone back to Android 2.1 or 2.2. That's what came with OTA's.

I rooted mine at 2.2, so now what RUU to take? There are multiple ones...
My phone is also not branded!
some info:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27

If you need more information please post it.

Personally I would think you should leave it as is - rooted. I would think the new owner would appreciate it. The low space issue will likely cause them grief down the road, and they will potentially re-root anyways.
Just my 2cents. :-)

Yeah, but the phone looks like as its not used. So I want to unroot it, have nothing on it, no root. Just as how it came stock. So the next owner also has no waranty issues and stuff. Now don't ask why I want to unroot, or leave it rooted. Just unroot it :P

Please help me with this... Choosing the right RUU is very difficult.

The warranty wont be valid as it will be second hand.
If you still want to un root have a look at shipped Roms and I believe the one want is

http://shipped-roms.com/download.php?category=android&model=Bravo&file=RUU _Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U _5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe

But as I have never flashed an RUU you may want to double check.

Thanks, but how do you know I need that one? And because you said you may want to double check, I hope someone else will also reply with what RUU to take.

Going from Su roots guide to rooting (here is a link) http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/221212-faq-rooting-updated-11th-november-2011-a.html#21

Do you have a note of your version prior to flashing. If not you could always use the gingerbread HTC developers ruu which is on the HTC development website

But if you really want froyo I believe it is the one I quoted previously

Don't forget you will meed to downgrade your hboot from the alpharev site as stock roms wont fit on the cm7 r2 hboot

I know my phone was on 2.2 before the rooting. Because I couldnt wait for 2.3... And I do not have the cm7 hboot, I am still on the stock HBOot, I just flashed cm7, without hboot. But still, how do you know what RUU it should be?

And can anyone also confirm this RUU named by Paul8944?

do you know what software version in full you were running before rooting?
without this we cannot confirm which 2.2 RUU you can use.
do you know if it was branded or not

if you do not know anything about the above then flash the dev 2.3.3 official HTC RUU
this will put it on gingerbread, keep the warranty and unroot it. 2.3.3 doesnt care what previous SW version you were on as long as it was an EU GSM build device

warranty can be passed on as long as proof of purchase from original source can be provided.

So the 2.3 from htcdev is a RUU, which will remove root and recovery? It will just go to to 2.3 and remove root?

An RUU is an exe program that runs in windows, connect your phone and follow on screen instructions. Amon ra is irrelevant.

So, connect phone to computer and then run the RUU. And it does not matter that I have Amon ra recovery? And then follow the instructions.

One time extra:

After the 2.3 update this is removed? :
- Amon Ra Recovery
- All root stuff
- All traces of root?

I really need to know it sure. My phone will be then as out of the box state, but then on 2.3?

When I am on 2.3 I can also place it on factory settings? And get OTA's if they will (n)ever come?

An RUU replaces:

  • rercovery.img with stock recovery.img
  • hboot.img with stock hboot.img (If you are s-off you may need to flash the downgrader.img first as Alpharev / revolutionary hboots have write protection)
  • boot.img with stock boot.img
  • system.img with stock system.img (this is where your root access is)
  • radio.img with stock radio.img

It will remove ALL Traces of root. This is what HTC technicians flash on phones when they do a repair job.

Ok, as I understand it will remove root, and all.... So now what to do first?
I have CM7 with a ext 4 partition. I know I can remove that partition with Amon Ra recovery.
so take these steps?
1. make sd card backup
2. remove partiton using Amon Ra Recovery
3. Would it boot without SD card ext partition? I really don't know. This step must be filled in.
4. connect phone to computer
5. start RUU and follow instructions.

What must be after the removing the partition? Flash CM7 again? Or do full wipe, and then flash cm7? Or could it just boot?

CM7 should boot without the ext partition (may depend on what a2sd method you installed). But I don't think that matters: boot into fastboot mode (boot while pressing the "back" key), connect to computer and it should show "fastboot usb" on the screen. Then you can run the RUU. This would work even if you don't have a bootable ROM (and I'm not sure that an RUU would work with CM7 anyway).

I found out, that I have to remove partiton, wipe and flash cm7 again.

So you say, first just try with phone on ( Must it be connected to PC with diskdrive? Or with HTC Sync? Or with just connected? ) and run the RUU, if that fails try it in fastboot? How do I know if it fails?

Why do you think it's a USB brick?

I'm no expert on USB bricks, but if it is one then there's a guide to fixing them here.

Edit: ah, you've already met that guide (the XDA copy).

Right, that guide is mainly talking about what to do if an RUU doesn't fix it, so starting from an unrooted stock ROM. So don't worry about the "temp root" business. But you need to be booted into android to follow the rest of the instructions - is that working?

You can make phone calls? Normally you lose that if you have a USB brick.

With USB bricks all I know is what I have read - never had to do it myself.

That guide seems pretty much step by step. The file attached to it is an archive containing all of the tools it mentions. So you could try following it, leaving out the bit about visionary (since you have root already).

The alternative is to try the RUU and see whether that fixes it, and if not follow that guide (including the visionary stuff, since you will no longer be rooted).

Or wait until someone who knows USB bricks comes along (or search for posts from Rastaman-FB, as he's talked a number of people through these).

usb brick doesnt stop it from charging thats a first
only way to fix a usb brick is by following that guide thats if you are actually usb bricked

i dont understand why you restored your nandroid when you clearly wanted to unroot

Ok, I found out my CID
fastboot said:
INFOCID is HTC__E11 ( I don't know how many '_' there are. )
Now the software number,
What must it be?
Android Version: 2.3.7
Baseband version: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel version: 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-geb50077android@portatile #1
MOd version: CyanogenMod-7.1.0-Desire
Build number: GWK74

What must be filled in in that file?
And isnt it possible to use this? Desire mtd0.img creator to generate a mtd0.img?

Or could anybody else create the files? Which I need to copy according that guide?

Ok, as I read a lot I came on difference things...

The CID must be in the mtd0.img file
The ROM version must be the kernel version, but that one, mine is too short ( If I only take the numbers, named in earlier post ). On other websites I also read that the ROM version does not matter.
So I want to ask it to you, must the ROM version be in the mtd0.img file? Or just only the CID?

Can anybody help me? Or create the file?

I hope to have my phone unrooted today...

Edit: Thanks for everything already.

It's solved!! I managed to combine multiple tutorials to get off the USB brick. Now I run the RUU, and I am on 2.3! Thanks to you all guys! To everybody who replied here! Really thanks!!

I hope I won't ever return here! ( No, I don't mean on the forum. I mean on the rooting part! :P )
