Default *poof*! all sms gone

The strangest thing - I was having a text conversation with someone. Back and forth a couple of times. Then suddenly when I got a response back, I went into text messages and they are all gone. Not just the ones with that one person either. All history of all text messages...just...poof.. What the heck?

It's been known to happen. They're usually still in the data base.

/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db

Nope, didn't find them. But its more than likely a user (me) issue!
I tried navigating to that directory using a file manager, but couldn't get there. Tried typing it all in - said no found.
Actually not a huge issue, I don't let myself get too attached to text messages - they are too easily lost when flashing new roms (since I'm either too lazy to back them up, or forget to)
I was mostly just very surprised that one second they were there... the next second all traces of em were gone!

You'd need a root file manager like root explorer, which if you don't own, should definitely consider purchasing

Smsbackup+ is great. Backs sms up to a gmail.label as they arrive

Hello all I am new here , been searching for a solution , the same issue with my HTC Desire happened and all SMS messages gone bar 6 up , the earliest being 27/12/11 but I had others older. I noticed my phone changed it's theme as well when this happened but I have not deleted the SMS text messages at all but they are not there where they should be.

I have rooted my phone successfully. I now have managed to extract the mmssms.db file from the directory /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db to my SD card (copied) with Rom Toolbox Pro as I could not see these files on my phone memory with Astro or ES File Manager.

So now what do I do to see my sms text messages contained in here? It is a 61 kb file. I am not sure where to go from here.

Open the file in your phone with a file manager (Root explorer?). You should be able to confirm your SMS are there.

I am using the "Root Browser" in Rom Toolbox Pro. I cannot see any SMS messages when I view this file all I see is a list of names starting with

addr
android_metadata
attachments
canonical_addresses ....... and so on and so on

there is a name in this list "sms" but I cannot see anything when I click on it.
All I see is _id with numbers 1 and 2

Thats where all your SMS should be. The 3rd column "Address" should be a list of all teh phone numbers you received / sent from/to. If you keep scrolling right, there is a field called "Body". Thats the text of the message. If this is blank, theres nothing you can do.
