Default failed root, need help

I previously tried to root my desire and wasn't successful. It didn't brick my phone or anything but its real glitchy. Also when I try to connect it to my computer it doesn't recognize it. When I open hboot it says invalid and won't let me do anything.

I'm in the first 4g rollout and want to wait and see a few 4g phones before I get one so I would love to fix my desire and possibly try to root it to ics. I don't know if ill be able to handle this phone that much longer otherwise lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is not enough information in this thread for us to help.

Please provide all the information you can from hboot and about phone. Also please tell us exactly what you did, link to any guides you followed/files you downloaded and provide any errors you may have received.

Also I would like a more descriptive account of the "invalid"

Thanks

Ps what's so special about ics that it will save your device? Gingerbread is far faster. Perhaps look at something with an ics theme, like mild wild

It is a CDMA device from US Cellular. I just saw ICS was possible to root too but honestly I have never used a phone with Gingerbread or ICS so I couldnt tell you the differences. If it would be recommended to use Gingerbread I am all for it. Anything to help with this memory issue and all these glitches. I use my phone for just the normal stuff I guess. Not much gaming. Mostly random internet surfing, text, call, pandora, etc...

I tried rooting originally with the unrevoked that was on the sticky. This was a few months ago so unfortunately I dont remember exactly where it went bad. I know I got a ways into it. It had me get the Titanium Backup. That was the step when I realized it didnt work because it said my phone was not rooted.

Heres what comes up in hboot

-Revolutionary-
Bravoc DVT2 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.06.1002
MICROP-051e
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-2.15.00.11.16

SD Checking....
Loading...(PB99DIAG.zip)
No Image!
Loading..(PB99DIAG.nbh)
No Image or Wrong Image!
Loading...(PB99IMG.zip)

then...
Model ID incorrect!
Update Fail!

Last night I tried to root it using Z4mod as instructed by someone else. It went all the way though the process, I have the ZV app and Superuser. WShen I oped Z4 it says my phone has been rooted. In Superuser it shows the Z4 app and thats it. Nothing has changed on my phone other than that. In my Software info it still shows I am running 2.2. Im sorry if I sound like an idiot and I hope I didnt mess this all up. First time trying to root. Im fairly knowledgeable about technology but not a wizz by anymeans. I tried to do my homework before I did it and I was pretty sure I understood what I was doing but now it is very apparent I didn't.

I really appreciate any help.

Btw rooting only gives you super user privileges, this allows you to be able to take control of your phone and edit the "cool stuff" that they don't want you to edit.
Most developers need ROOT to build and test new roms on their phones.

Did you follow the guide on using Revolutionary to S-OFF and then root in this forum? It looks like you are S-OFF - is Revolutionary in pink letters? If you following the guide the root process was probably also successful. In Titanium try the Problems button - chances are that will probably sort it out.

Here is the rom I want you to test out as a beginner rom. Then we will get into trying ICS... Oxygen to my knowledge, is bug free, easy install, and all the "stupid apps" like the original rom had, are gone. so therefore MORE SPACE! But just SAVE THIS TO YOUR DESKTOP!!!! don't do anything with it YET!
update-oxygen-2.3.2-BravoC-signed.zip - File Shared from Box - Free Online File Storage
Just getting you prepared for the flashing process.
This rom is called oxygen

Okay so you need to get rom manager from the market as specified in the pm. Once that gets installed open it and press OK *** IT MIGHT ASK FOR PERMISSIONS FROM SUPER USER!! JUST ALLOW IT***
Next you need to press (Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery) Then press HTC Desire CDMA
It will ask for a WIFI connection. You don't need one, but it is recommended.
Hit OK and it will begin to install the recovery,
wait until it says that it installed successfully!
then press okay.
Now you will transfer the oxygen rom (you downloaded this earlier) to your SD CARD
*WARNING*
DO NOT EXTRACT IT!!! LEave it as a zip file.
Once the recovery is installed, and the rom is transferred to the SD-Card
reply on this forum and ill let you know your next steps.

Thanks for the quick replies! I work 3rd shift so I have a bad sleep schedule. I wont be able to do all this quite yet. I will when I "officially" get up in a few hours lol. Gotta get a few more hours before I pick up the kid from daycare. Anyways, about that ROM Manager, is that safe to use? I see the sticky at the top that says dont use it?

I think this thread should be set on fire and all the letters within it can crumble to a distant memory.

If youre s-off, download the 4ext recovery updater application from XDA:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408936

and flash 4ext touch recovery. do NOT install ROM manager for ANY reason.

you ARE able to use rom manager for CDMA. Gsm has issues with it. But it works PERFECTLY with CDMA. I have never ever had problems and neither have my CDMA DESIRE friends that I KNOW. Trust me. This is fine for the CDMA only desire. GSM has issues with this app.

Ok whatever. what do I know, Ive only seen 2 years worth of errors.

Its nothing to do with the GSM architecture. What has recovery got to do with a SIM card? Nothing!

I repeat DO NOT use ROM manager. You are not an expert over night. It takes many years. Whether you have had an issue or not does not negate the fact that an issue is round the corner, waiting to pounce on your CDMA ass.

...everyone, do what you want. Delete the stickies. Smash your phones. I'm out.

-----------------------------------------------------
Okay so You need to go to that website and download the free version

now youre going need to have a file manager on your phone and make sure you have install from unknown sources checked in "applications menu"
now youre gonna copy the apk you just downloaded over to your sd card and then unplug it from your computer.
next youre gonna go to the file browser and make sure ur in the SDCARD and then install the 4extrecoveryupdater.apk
open it
accept disclaimer
press ok
press ok again (maybe)
then click online install|upgrade
allow from superuser
then itll say the lockal device database..... blah blah blah.
Click OK
then press yes to "connect to 4ext.net to get new data?"
itll take a min
then press ok when a message pops up
then once again click online install| upgrade
itll say detected Htc Desire CDMA is that correct.
Say yes
then press okay to the message box.
then press the first choice which is 4EXT recovery touch v1.0.0.4 RC3
itll pop up with a menu that says about versions flagged "rc"
press ok
then click install at the bottom of the screen
irll say connecting...
downloading..
then checking md5
then flashing new recovery
then press ok to the message box
and yes to the next message box
and then youre done.
Let me know when you do this
ONCE AGAIN SORRY SU ROOT!!!!!!!!!!!

If you ever want another rom like ICS. Just ask and ill upload it for you to download. Lmk and ill have it uploaded by tomorrow. Btw this process is like that foe EVERY rom you install. you don't HAVE to backup when you want to install a new rom. but its really recommended. as long as you have a backup of your original USCC rom, Youll be fine.
and you never have to format system again. That was just to clear the old data left over from your partitions

It worked and wow this is awesome. Now I can start downloading some apps. Something I really couldn't do before the root. I'm way excited. Thanks so much!

Do not use ROM manager, you have been warned - that sticky is there for good reason. You don't need it, flash from recovery its not difficult.

edit: never mind, tapatalk threw a fit thought last post was further up (still stands though)

Im not trying to go agenst you or anything. I now know Clockwork Rec. is really bad. But what exactly does it do to your phone that its so bad?

It's not clockwork that's bad. It's Rom manager. It adds sb additional software layer to go wrong, and does. Problems with broken back ups, boot loops, missing and broken data, corrupt partitions...

So will this perm brick the phone? Like no going back? (for the people watching at home) Or could someone use an RUU to fix this?
