hi,

i need a new radio because of severe data issues. does anyone know which one i should choose?
at this point im even happy to change my rom if it comes with a radio i can flash to fix my lack of a data connection.

and if anyone has a good guide to flashing a radio that would be appreciated too.

Sandeep - I forgot to link the "how to" on radio flashing, as I have had some RL issues to take care of over the last couple of evenings... I will find the link and post it ASAP

I thought I'd have a quick look for you before I start work...

Before I go on, I have never flashed a radio... I have the same one that shipped with the phone.

Here is a link on how to flash a radio. It is worth noting that, while it is not difficult to flash a radio, a bad radio flash WILL brick your phone.

You must ensure that the phone is fully charged before you follow the guide but, as long as you follow the steps in the guide, you should not encounter any issues.

Easier than flashing new radios is getting the correct RIL (Radio Interface Layer) for your radio/ROM (this is something I have not done either... I think it is done in the same way as flashing a ROM).

ROM devs usually tell you (in the thread where you downloaded the ROM from) whether there is a recomended radio for the ROM that you have... if not, then any should be ok - you may have to play a game of trial and error to find which works best for you (or you could contact the ROM dev directly to ask them if they have one they would recomend).

Hope this has been of some help... let me know if you need anything else

I believe that LeeDroid does, but am not sure as I haven't used it. What have you been running?

Android Revolution also comes with one, which you can find beneath the download link on the XDA thread

Before you flash a new radio, could you tell us what ROM you're using, what the signal reception was like previously etc? It might be fixable without having to have a new radio

I'm using leedroid hd 5.1.1 right now... Had a much older version which was fine albeit a bit slow, about a week after upgrading I've had major issues. Before upgrading, the signal my signal was fine, hsdpa pretty much everywhere or at least a connection lol.

Ive checked the leedroid thread and couldn't see anything, unless you have any ideas to fix this I might give AR a go...

Thanks for the

Was going to ask if you'd flashed the patch to fix signal issues but I can see in another thread you already have.

I would say before flashing a radio you should try another rom (AR is good) with the same radio aand see if the problem persists. If so we can take it from there.

Personally I would only flash a new radio if it was my last option, as it is potentially quite dangerous
However if you would definitely like a new one by all means we will help

+1

Have not flashed a radio myself... by all accounts it is easy, but as I said, doing so is risky, as you can brick your phone!

i flashed CM7 and this didnt help before, also restored my phone to a very old froyo backup id made which didnt help either.

i tried AR and it froze on the boot screen, but i think i might give that another go. my Wifis not as strong as it was a few days ago either, so i really need this to get sorted asap. if i do flash AR i will probably need to flash the radio as well, so i guess the risk will always be there...

not sure whether to go down this route or just downgrade, update OTA and then let someone else fix it for me, phones still under warranty.

maybe ill give it a go over the next day or two.

thanks for the advice so far.

As I said in your other thread, why would you downgrade for an OTA update? Do you have an older branded RUU?

i guessed that if i had a newer version flashed it wouldnt ask for an ota update.

anyway, i think ive found the problem.
i have an old (the oldest i think) radio for the DHD, and the leedroid rom has included the latest RIL, im guessing because he assumed people would stay up to date with these things.

i need to flash an old RIL, RIL for 12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M to be specific. however, the link is dead. does anyone know anywhere other then this XDA thread i can find older RILs? i dont wanna flash a radio unless its necessary, im hoping with the right RIL i wont need to.

thanks!

EDIT: making progress, managed to trace the files to http://www.androidrevolution.nl/browsearhd.php

does anyone know if its ok to use an older RIL with a newer rom? thanks

A RIL (radio interface layer, I think it stands for) should be ok to use with a new ROM... prepared to be corrected though, as I haven't ever changed that either!

i was told RILs should match your radio, but ive tried it and still no joy.
its quite bad now, havent been able to receieve calls for a few days, mainly when phones not in use, next to no internet... lovely.

gonna try and flash a new radio soon, running out of options

found out something quite interesting... i know two other people with DHDs, and both of them seem to be experiencing the same issues... one of them has definitely rooted, not sure exactly how much hes done from there, and one of them has a stock rom (i think).

got a friend with a sensation though on Vodafone which seems to be just fine.

looks like its not just my phone..

At least you're not alone! Have you spoken to your provider to see if there are any network issues in your area?

No I haven't, didn't wanna be asked what my software version is lol... I'm in central London right now and have hsdpa and decent signal, looks like its just something to do with my local area... All of this effort for nothing lol. Might just abandon trying to flash a new radio... Considering calling them up and saying I don't have a phone plan because the signal is so rubbish and see if I can blag my line rental back...

It does sound like it could be your area then. Just call them and tell them that you are not happy with their service in your area... you never know, you may be able to get something back!

I would not flash the radio unless you have to though!
