Default HTC Sense Dashboard problem

Has anyone got the dashboard on htc sense to work yet? It doesn't work for me. When I start it it says that I must enable 'Phone searcher' under location, but it already is enabled. I've already tried stuff as reinstalling locations and turning phone searcher on and off, but it still says the same stuff. Anyone can help me?

Do a search here for 'htc sense'. Noone can get it to work apart from the 'phone me' bit. Work in progress me-thinks. I'll just keep trying as some of the features are good, if/when they work!

Default Sense Dashboard not making sense!

Hate to be a me tooer, but me too!

Make Phone Ring works but nothing else, No Location, No Lock, Wipe might be working but I'm not trying that...my luck it would work!

Sent a request via "contact us" waiting for 2nd reply, first one was no help.

PriceA

Update: 2nd Reply came back very prompt, All I have to do is uninstall every app I've downloaded, re install one at a time, then do a soft reset then do a HARD reset wipe the phone to factory settings and "see" if that fixes the problem. WTF?? Told them nicely NO way unless they can tell me how that could effect the Dashboard.

Sorry, cannot agree. Same as you willuk1987, with very little on the my Desire HD phone I did a factory reset, deleted htcsense.com account, re-registered and still the only working thing is ring, all the rest does not work. Anybody out there with lots of data on the phone considering "factory reset" option - DON'T!

Why they release things half baked and create frustration like this is beyond me . Also far too fiddly as a phone, seriously considering going back to my iPhone.

As I say above - search here and on xda-forums for issues and possible fixes.

As for the text messages, one thing that I found after getting everything working was that any texts that had already got sent, but were still on my phone, did NOT show up. The only texts that do are ones sent/received AFTER I finally got htc-sense running. It sort of makes sense but I can see why people are complaining about not having existing texts show up. I mean, it can upload your contacts so why not texts?

That's what I found anyway and, to be honest, it doesn't bother me one bit as 1) I normally have 'keep sent texts?' set to OFF and 2) I also delete any received texts after I've read them/dealt with them. Not into texting much me ....

Finally after 3 hours struggling i can enable these HTC sense's dashboard, phone location and secure phone. What I did is reset my HD to factory set. I lost all my contact but I got back all previous installed application. At first the dashboard shown unknown location, somewhere at ocean, but after synchronize the HTC sense from my phone (to update the data i think), dashboard shows the exactly current location. I used GPS to locate my location so i had to get out from my room to bitter cold outside.
I think the point is you have to properly set up initial setup, don't just skip it and jump to android market to install app. If you want to enable this function, do it on initial setup.

I have it fully operational now on both of my D.HD's.. & AFAIK, only HD & Z can use, because they are the only 2 models currently listed in Model option at sign-up on website - www.htcsense.com

I'd also recommend getting current fix in Locations (My Location) before you start, although you can do this after & simply sync to update position.

What worked for me:

1. For best results, you should Create Account from your PC - IMPORTANT! DO NOT close this window when it sends you a Verification e.mail

2. When Verification e.mail arrives, either click link in e.mail OR copy/paste into new tab/window - YOU MUST keep the original setup page unchanged

3. When account verified, CLOSE this browser page & REFRESH original browser page - which should now change to show the I have signed in on my phone button

4. Run through Setup on handset (All Apps - Setup)... activate Finder & Sign In at prompts

5. NOW you can go back to the original setup page on your PC and complete setup by clicking the I have... etc button

I think I had a lot of trouble because I first tried creating an account from a handset.
Also, I tried using Verification browser page to complete setup, not the original sign-up page
Neither methods worked for me but the method below was flawless both times.

If you have any problems, start over by first Deleting Account from HTC website & Remove Account from Accounts & sync on handset, then follow as above.

Good Luck & hope this helps someone. DHD is AWESOME-O!

How do you delete account from HTC Sense site? Also when I go to delete the account off the phone it warns you that you will lose all your contacts. Is this true?
Thanks

That;s what they told me in an email too! Check my post above. There are plenty of threads about this. I had to delete the HTC SEnse account from my phone and re-install it. The make sure I got a GPS fix.

I hard reset my phone and deleted my account and started again and got it to work perfectly on my HD. When i logged back in i still didn't have location, but going into account settings on the website and back (seemed to update screen) and sync the htc sense on the phone the map appeared then after about 10 mins and had sync'd again i notice it had found my location

I reset my account as per PopTarantula suggestions.

To delete the account on the website go into the account settings on website and on the top right the words 'delete the account' are in red

Also the warning about deleting info of your phone doesn't do anything.

After reseting the phone im thinking it may not have been necessary so try just deleting your account and manually sync your phone a few times if loosing the data bothers you

still doesn't work for me even though I've followed PopTarantula instructions. May i should hard reset as I am having ringer volume issues and HTC is suggesting I try hard resetting.

Really disappointed the dashboard just wouldn't work.

Default same here but problem solved

I had all of these problems starting with the message saying my location finder was disabled but it wasnt.. anyway I logged out of htc sense on m pc and logged in about 45 mins later to find a map came up and my phone image was smack in the middle of it in the ocean too saying location "unknown".. I rang HTC about this and the guy on the phone told me this has happened before to someone else and that while he was sitting on the same screen on his pc looking at the map it found his phone and updated his location screen.. And then the same thing happened to me I was wondering what to do next then it found my phone and I saw it on the map... I would say to the rest of you that it is a matter of time... no need for factory resetting simply wait for it... and it wasnt long for me... 90 mins later... and there it was. Wait and check it later even try leaving it on pc screen or check it the next day... just have a look now and then see if it has updated because I had all of these issues and didnt do anything but wait. BY the way my phone also rang when I selected on the pc for HTC sense to ring it while I was waiting for the phone to appear on some kind of map and I didnt try any of the other options because I didnt want to... I am positive people experiencing this same location problem will have the matter resolve itself pretty soon. If you are unsure about your settings then ring HTC customer service they were helpful to me. They didnt resolve it nor know why it wasnt showing me the phones location but they did go through my settings which were all as they should have been.. Like I said just wait for it to register and locate by itself maybe go watch a movie or something then check it.... MERRY CHRISTMAS

I am waiting now for two months, but it still doesn't work!

Default Factory reset

I recently read the replies here and followed the "guide" about factory resetting and setting up the sense account again (thanks for the info btw )
But I just wanted to say that it didn't work for me, which didn't matter because I didn't have that much on my phone. But if you have a lot on your phone it might not be worth resetting.

Thanks again though guys for the above methods.

This doesn't work for me also, i would do a full reset if i knew it work 100%, but think i will hang fire until HTC bring out an update or some news to say they have it fully functional as i don't fancy losing all my data and apps for it not to work still!

Like a fool, I did a reset on 1 handset and chose to re-register it to alternate e.mail address at same time.
From that moment on, I no longer had the full Sense features on it, only Dashboard (Locator, Ring, Lock, etc..), which work just fine, BTW.
HTC simply replied with a standard format e.mail = "Yes; Temporary issue; We're working on it"

So while I do have Dashboard, Footprints, People, Messages & Hub on my other handset.. I should ideally have it on both.
Their reply to fbrugmans is more info than they gave me.
Hoping they get this sorted, but maybe they'll just pull the plug completely, instead <FROWN>

Have been trying to connect with Sense over this past week since my phone arrived. My phone number appears on the screen but none of the options work, plus my phone is not locatd. I am loathed to do a factory reset after managing my handset the way I want it.
I guess I will just forget about this option until HTC improve it.

Yea, from what I understand, they got problems with their servers and had lag issues around October/Desember, so the first instructions to factory reset were a "desperate" attempt from HTC to fix it. However it didn't seem to fix the problem. Now HTC Sense is complete limited (except for a few lucky users that signed up early from what I gather), and we just have to sit patiently and wait for news. For now I'd say don't reset your phones. It don't seem to solve the problem for anyone since after New Year, and if it "did", it's just some functionality restored. But I'm hopeful that HTC will try to fix their problems quickly.

Post Htc sense solution

To all that htc sense is not working.

Im from malta and my htc sense with my htc desire hd was totally a fail at the beginning. the ring thing only worked....

I tryed my hard and finally it worked.

1) i created a new account with another email.
2) i removed the account from the phone and signed in with the new one.
3) i performed dozens of sync for the htc sense
4) refresh and singning out and in from htc sense website
5) try different browsers ( just in case )

Those were all the things ive performed, and finally got it working.altghough i dont know how this is usefull as htc sense works when you have internet connected on the phone , ' i think if someone steals ur phone, they take out the sim, so no more synced and the internet connection is out as your sim is changed..

Your Right!!!
This whole HTC sense is a crap or crabs!! Is a marketing tactic. I was dupe by it thinking that "wow now I can really get my phone back and catch that phone thief"
The fact that it's not. Once the sim card is remove how than the HTC sense server gonna track my phone. Hack it can't even ring it if you lose it somewhere in your house without the simcard inserted.
Unless maybe if they tie it with the imei# on each phone and uses GPS to track it if the thief happens to on the GPS or wifi/3g network.
Is that an idea or what? HTC!

Ticket response after ticket respone (make new account/etc..) & no further forward - 2 1/2 months now.. rediculous!
I am now passed to 'next line' who are dealing with Sense issues... but no contact made by them yet.

I have x2 DHD & one is happy 5 tabs, the 'reset' device is still duff

This sounds highly plausible..... given the other handset is all singing & dancing... dammit!

Sense isn't really an app.. its little bits n bobs, all over the place
Like in Locations you have ur Footprints & also can access Friends Footprints
In People you have ur online directory link to Friends
Hub is in All Apps & Messages are SMS, obviously
The Sense website is sposed to be like a 'cloud based' management suite where you can access & manipulate them all without the pokey stick or proddy finger

Thank goodness I found this forum and PopTarantulas answers. I also have two DeisreHDs, well I have one and the wife has one, Mine works perfectly on HTCSense and hers (naturally) only has the dashboard appear with no other options. Took ages for mine to work properly as I deleted my account sometime ago and had to recreate it, luckily I still got all the options. Have had endless trouble sorting an account for her with the account not recognising a password when setup and then not recognising the security question to reset it and finally having to use an alternative email as the original would never reset or allow deletion.
Well I suppose things can only get better - maybe

Wow, Zantos.. sounds like you are in complete reverse of my situation..
Nice to hear you have your 'Reset' Device working properly.. my duff D.HD wasn't so lucky

Providing you can get your troublesome phone to log itself to NONsense (in Accounts/Sync not the website), it should be able to send friend requests to the one with FULL access
You can also try using Latitude (this also works in combination with Google Chat/Google Latitude/Gmail on your PC)
I now have 2 phones that can see & talk to each other.. however, they don't want to share Footprints yet

Until this lousy Web Interface is fixed (if ever) I'm using a combination of MyLookout (Free)/Latitude/Tasker for emergency relocating
Security comes at a price, but NONsense should be doing this for free, like on my other D.HD

Default Only Dashboard

I recently purchased a HTC Desire Z and registered myself on the HTC Sense website and used the same credentials on my phone. I am only getting the Dashboard and nothing else. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

I wouldn't put any faith in HTCSense.com to be honest. I've had the phone since November and it's never worked properly for me.

I'd wait until HTC sort themselves out before trying any of its features again.

Talking HTC Phone Finder fix

Hey guys and girls. New around these parts but I notice a lot of people are having the same problem as I was having getting the phone finder feature to work on the sense website.
After some nagging to HTC they finally sent me the solution.
This worked for me and hope it can help anyone else having the same problem.

Below I have attached the text from the email they sent me,

Thanks for contacting HTC.

I understand you are experiencing some issues with HTC Sense.

Please follow the step detailed below, to ensure a successfull setup.

If you already have an HTC Sense account, we will need to delete it, please use these steps :

1. On your computer, open your web browser and sign in to your HTCSense.com account.
2. On the upper-right corner, click Account.
3. Click Click here to delete your HTCSense account.
(Deleting your HTCSense.com account will also delete your data on HTCSense.com servers)

I Know it sounds crazy but work with

Correct steps for a succesfull set-up :

1. Make sure you have fixed your location in the 'My Location' app - Menu, All Apps, My Location.
2. Ensure you have Auto-Sync ticked in -Menu, Settings, Accounts & Sync.
3. Also esure you have 'Enable always-on mobile data' ticked in - Menu, Settings, Wireless & Networks. Its at the bottom of the list.
4. Create Account from your PC - Very important, please do not close this window when it sends you a Verification e.mail
5. When Verification e.mail arrives, either click link in email OR copy/paste into new tab/window in your web-browser, its very important to
to keep the original setup page unchanged
6. When account verified, CLOSE this browser page & REFRESH original browser page
- which should now change to show the 'I have signed in on my phone' button
7. On the phone, go to Menu, Settings, Accounts & Sync, and 'Add new' and choose HTC Sense.
(If you already have an HTC Sense set-up in the list, tap on it and 'Delete', then follow step 7 again.)
8. Follow the steps on the phone for setting up HTC Sense.
9. When finished, you can now you can go back to the Verification browser page to complete setup, not the original sign-up page and complete setup by clicking the 'I have... etc'. button

That was for my phone but should be similar for any android based HTC.

I really hope this helps people.

Hi firstly which country are you in because android 2.3 is not out every where yet. If uk based its only just released to network branded phones.
But I can tell you I have a deisre HD and even in 2.2 you can zoom while recording video.
There are some difference with 2.2 and 2.3 but non that should have an impact on camera quality.
All I can imagine is some of your settings may have changed.
The major thing with 2.3 has been the work on NFC but here are some of the other changes as well.

Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) supports the following features in addition to existing 2.2 features:
New user interface design with new themes (Black themes save power)
Extra Large Screen Size supported
SIP Communication Supported (SIP Video and Audio Calling, In an operator point of view, this is feature will decrease their voice calling revenue where as user can call each other for lower rates or even free if they have good data connection)
Supports for NFC (High Frequency High Speech Data Transfer in short range)
Support for WebM/VP8 video playback, and AAC audio encoding
New audio effects such as reverb, equalization, headphone virtualization, and bass boost
Improved Copy and Paste functionality
Redesigned Multi Touch Software Keyboard
Audio, graphical, and input enhancements for game developers
New sensors support (i.e gyroscope)
Download manager for long running HTTP downloads
Enhanced support for native code
Improved power management and application control
Support for multiple cameras

Arrow Check your region (phone) code

Hi there,

Had problems with HTCSense Dashboard too in the beginning.
Found that, while installing your phone, you are asked to enter region code and phone number fairly in the beginning of the installation/setup.

That's where it goes wrong. When you open your Dashboard on HTCSense.com, you'll see under your account settings, that the region code is mentioned twice in the phone number box.

Simply edit the phone number in that box so that it only contains one time the region code and you're off!

Regards,

Default HTC Sense problem. Sorted with my Sensation.

Hi Everyone

My first post so hope this helps.

I to had the same problems as everyone else on here and was going mad with it all. I tried everything that people had suggested to try but no luck. So on the HTC website I decided to download the operation guide for my Sensation and have a read through. I noticed something that said do that had never been mentioned in ANY of the online or phone setup procedures. It tells you that once you have setup online and also on your phone with the same details, you must sync the account on your phone. The way it tells you to do this for my phone is in the following way -

1. Click on the settings button (looks like a top of a screw)
2. Click settings
3. Click Accounts & Sync
4. Click HTC Sense
5. Make sure all are ticked and click sync.

I done all the above and then looged back into HTC Sense on my PC. There was an option to refresh phone location (something like that). Once I done this, it found my phone within seconds!!! Now I can Lock and Erase stuff on my phone, basically all options are now available.

Now I not sure if this was just luck or not, but it did work. I spent hours trying to get the thing working and after doing this it did work.

I posted this in the hope it also works for other people, please let me know how you get on.

Fingers crossed.

Steve

Default Re phone tracking

Have just managed to get the HTC phone tracker working (after several hrs of frustration).

I have a HTC Desire HD located in Oz (on Three/ Vodaphone).

Having read all the above posts, this is what worked for me.

I deleted my HTC Sense account (via PC as per instructions in other posts).

I deleted the HTC sense account on the phone (Settings, Accounts & Sync).

Then went to the ALL APPs on the phone selected HTC HUB widget.

It offers the chance to sign in or create. I created an account on the phone.

(regarding the tel no. I entered the mobile number but without the leading zero as they add the international area code on top (and it doesn't seem work if you get this wrong).

Complete the rego and you will shortly get the "validation email ".

I just clicked the validation link in the email (on the PC this time) and logged in to the HTC Sense account (using the details that I used when i created it on the phone).

The screen changed and said click Refresh (in green writing top left of the screen... for some people it may find the phone immediately).
After a couple of refreshes it found my phone and all the other features worked.

I hope this helps some, as I bought my phone back in April and couldn't get it working and had given up until a friend with an iPhone showed me how easy it was to operate/install (so I thought that i would have another go).

Thanks to the other posters, I would not have got it working but for their suggestions.

It shouldn't be this hard though, as I have mentioned I saw my mate set up his iPhone in just a couple of minutes.

Default The best solution for now ...

I have downloaded an app from Market, named Lookout.

While it may not offer all the functionality that HTC Sense promises it does at least work!

It backs up contacts, pictures etc, checks files for malware etc and has a phone locator too. Have been using this app for a year without any issues. Took me just 30 seconds to set up and had no set up issues whatsoever. It has worked on Android v1.6 too.

There are free or paid versions.

Mine wasn't working using a Gmail account. I erased it on the site and re-registered with my hotmail account. I then erased my gmail linked sense account on the phone and created the new one for the hotmail sense account. I kept the site open as I created the phone account and it verified via the phone. After the sync completed (the very first one) everything is working. My location is accurate to within feet of where I actually am and all the other functions seem to work fine. Looks like HTC may have finally squared this away. Important note:- NO RESETS WERE REQUIRED FOR THIS TO WORK!

Default Solution for my dashboard problems

Today I discovered I had the same problems. Didn't have to reset my HTC Desire HD or delete my HTCSense account. Just added HTCSense service to "accounts & synchronisation" list and set the updatemode to "push". Logged back in to htcsense.com and after 30 secs everything worked again.

I had problems trying to get sense dashboard to work as well and I was using a gmail account.
I tried my btinternet account and it worked first time, so if anyone is having issues, try using an email that isn't gmail.

Default Solved

HTC Evo 3D - Italy

Now mine is working. Block, Ring and Localization! I've just deleted and reregistered my account using HTC hub. It took less then 10 minutes and 4-5 refreshes of the page forcing the manual syncronization from the mobile. During the HTC hub registration it was asked a check for localization. Before of that only the Ring was working. I kept open Locations (app and widget) during the process.

I hope this can help somebody.

Thank you Guys!

I contacted HTC and received a very prompt reply with instructions to get it working. I followed the instructions to the letter and their website said my phone was "syncing" and it could take a few hours. The instructions said when I received the syncing message to refresh the page every 10 minutes. Three hours, untold refreshes and 250Mb of data usage later a message appeared " Phone finder on your phone is not
enabled". By this time I decided enough was enough. I emailed HTC again and thanked them for their help but told them their phone finder was absolute rubbish. Next day I received another email with additional workarounds.
Well my workaround was to look for an app that would do what I wanted and I believe I have now found it. HTC should do themselves a favour and dump their phone finder and use Androidlost from the market. What else.. IT'S FREE. and I can't believe how easy it was to setup.

I'm gonna post this here as it's the top of Google search for "HTC dashboard".

You need to remember to enter your country dialling code before your mobile number on the HTC sense dashboard.

For example in the UK:

07780??????

Becomes

+447780??????

You also need to create an account, which I did by going to "Get more HTC widgets".
HTC Sense Dashboard then works correctly.

The site isn't going to have a clue what country your from unless you specify that code.

Additionally if your behind a Firewalled router and using the WiFi connection, I suspect HTC sense won't be able to access your phone without port forwarding.

I just received this reply from htc...

"Thank you for your email regarding your HTC phone. I understand that you are experiencing some difficulties using the HTCSense.com website and its features to lock and ring your phone. I believe the reason you are experienicng this difficulty is because the HTCSense.com website has been shutdown at the moment. Due to customer feedback, we are working to improve the services experiences for our customers and as part of that effort have shut down HTCSense.com. I do apologise for the inconvenience this is causing you. I hope that this information meets with your requirements, should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again."

It seems daft to me that a website can be 'shut down' yet still allow me log in and try to use the facilities without some notification that it is 'down'.

Cheers,

Keefie.
