PS: some of the weather systems do have pretty animations to look at though ...

I'm not disagreeing with you, because I know that some areas have micro-climates that make forecasts quite unreliable. But, generally, I am amazed at how often the forecaster do get it right. I expect this is because I'm old enough to remember the days before satellites and computers were able to provide so much data and so much analytic power. As a kid, I remember that next-day forecasts were often totally wrong, and five-day forecasts were next to useless.
