Default Desire HD on Orange - constant laggy, constant 100% CPU usage, 7 hour battery life.

Hi guys,

I have a new Desire HD on orange, it is only a week or so old.

I find the phone to be laggy and unresponsive a lot of the time.

I installed System Task Manager Lite so I could do some monitoring. The CPU is almost always at 100% usage, even when I have just rebooted the phone (so no apps running etc). There are also an absolute crap ton of apps running in the background or whatever, stuff that came with the phone and that I will never use. If I root and remove, how much of a difference will this make?

I am getting average of 7 hours to a full charge, with light to moderate use (no games etc but some GPS / navigation). This is not acceptable, it doesn't even get me through a working day.

Any suggestions or ideas? Do live wallpapers make much of a difference as I am using Thunderstorm.

I am on orange and get none of your problems...

So far I get awesome battery life so not too sure. Do you know what program is eating up your CPU up? You can check it using your app or others out there like OSMonitor...

Has USB Debugging turned on as well? There must be a logical reason why if people on here are getting good life.

This phone needs an update from HTC regarding the usb debugging issue and give us 2.3.

USB debugging is an android 2.2 problem not a HTC problem.

2.3 isn't even out yet, how can they give it to us

Yeh well USB debugging didn't work for me either, without USB debugging my phone was dropping 2% in standby after 8 hours and now it's dropping over 12% in the same time period and the only things I've changed since then is took of most of the stock widgets and downloaded a few apps which take up 0% cpu in the background.

I'm waiting for my silver Royal Mail envelope to send it back so I get a replacement one.

I only get 2% dropping over 8 hours when only my network is on and data/wifi turned off (i.e. when I sleep). Are you getting the 12% drop under the same conditions? That is pretty weird, try doing a complete restart of the phone (don't enable fast boot up) and see what happens.

Not sure how old yours are, but my battery life has increased vastly since it was new 6-weeks ago. I've also picked a pair of cheap ebay batteries 7 these actually give longer life than the HTC original ???

got a question for the Orange UK DHD owners:

1) did your DHD come preloaded with orange bloatware? with the HTC Mail application missing from the 'all apps' launcher?
2) or did it seem to come with a standard build?

when the DHD came out on Orange, i remebered the Q I had with a load of others for the DHD to come into stock. we all commented that the earlier ones seem to come unbranded and clean of Orange crap.

but about 2 months after, I convinced my dad to get a DHD from Orange, and his unfortunately came with Orange bloatware galore. Ive noticed it was missing some of the apps that i have on my build and it was running alot more sluggishly than mine for some reason...and thats switching on the usb debugging

Im on the verge of getting my dad to root his as i wont have this orange crud experience ruin his 1st ever android phone!!!! lol

I got mine as soon as I found out Orange had them available and it was with the standard, non orange build. It was the only one in the shop too. I'm glad I did because from what I've read on here, Orange have ruined the phone!

Straight from HTC I presume?

[Rampant Speculation]

I imagine HTC give whatever updates they have to network providers to mess about with and add their own "bloatware" etc. The provider must do something with the update that tells the phone to look at their servers instead of HTC's for future updates. Where as the unbranded must look straight at HTC.

[/Rampant Speculation]

Do I sound cool now?

yeah i was thinking along the samelines, so technically when the 2.3 comes out ,we'll get ours before the bloatware crew...
