Angry Remove clockworkmod recovery 2.5.1.3

I need to remove clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.3 from htc desire hd, I am selling the phone and cannot update to android v2.3, I know nothing about clockworkmod recovery but assume this is stopping the update

Welcome to the forums!

If you have CWM on your phone, are you rooted? If so, why not sell the phone as rooted, as the buyer would not be covered by a warantee anyway?

Was your phone carrier branded before you rooted? Did you run the S-Off tool and get SUPER CID (I think it's called) - this is where the carrier ID would no longer be VODA-001, but HTC-001... the reason I say this is that, if you are rooted, but did not change the CID to the HTC one, then your phone will still think it's branded, but it is running non-branded firmware... this will mean that it fails when it tries to update!

I bought the phone off ebay supposed to be original and unlocked only noticed problem 3 months later trying to update to android 2.3 but failed, noticed clockwordmod screen when phone battery died and plugged in to recharge, I know zero about clockworkmod and rooting but used connectbot to check and its not rooted, I just wish to instal android 2.3 and sell the phone

If you have clockworkmod on the phone, then you were probably rooted at some point. ClockworkMod is a custom recovery, that allows you to flash custom ROM's on your phone.

It sounds like whoever actually "unlocked" the phone didn't change the CID (Carrier ID) for the phone. The CID tells the phone whether it is carrier branded or not.. this means that the phone would actually think that it is still carrier branded and that it won't update... almost like getting the phone confused.

It is pretty straight forward to get it sorted, so that you can update your DHD to 2.3... in fact, there was a thread in the last couple of days that expains it all... leave it with me, while I look for it and I'll put a link up for you!!

Right... if you have a look at the following thread, you'll see that the OP was having similar problems to you, so this should help you - There are no updates available for your phone.

If you need any more info, feel free to ask!!

Before you do anything, install CID Getter on your phone and have a look at the CID (https://market.android.com/details?id=org.tritonsoft.cidgetter&feature=search _result)

Let me know what it is and then we can take it from there!

Hmm... strange... that means that your phone is unbranded, so you should be able to update to Gingerbread. You're not already on Gingerbread, are you?

From your homescreen "menu=>settings=>about phone" and then qhat android version do you have? If it's 2.3.3, then you're on Gingerbread.

EDIT - should have suggested this first really... CWM shouldn't be stopping you from updating to Gingerbread!

Might also not be updating as it's not the stock ROM installed.

ARHD & LeeDroid are very similar to stock.

There are a number of checks the update will perform once downloaded before it will install. D-U-R-X was correct with the CID and you're correct that if you have a recovery image (clockwork) installed.

Are you still rooted (is there a super user app on your handset)?

Can you check your software number also? It's in the same place you got your Android version.

If you can't install the update, I suspect you'll need to run a RUU (ROM Upgrade Utility) via your PC. The GB RUU at the bottom of this thread: HTC Desire HD - Useful Links + Files

I've never ran one before, but I'm under the impression it's just a case of plugging the phone into the PC, then running the exe file and it will re-write all it needs to with official HTC images.

Okay fella can you turn your the phone off and turn back on holding down power and vol- (vol down) together to turn it back on.

This will then take you into the bootloader (your phones version of BIOS on your PC).

Type the very top line of what it shows on that screen here.

Should be either:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF
ACE ENG SHIP S-OFF

Then we'll guide you through getting it back to standard and the tools to use.

First of all, download the file linked to in the first post in this thread

Then download Visionary from here

Then head here and download the file called "Easy Radio tool v2_2.zip". It's at the bottom of the 2nd post in the thread.

Come back when you've done all that.

I've never ran an RUU before, but from what I can gather, you connect the phone to the PC in HTC Sync mode, open the exe file and just let it do it's thing. I'd prefer someone who's ran one before to confirm before you do it though.

Once completed, that will restore the handset to virtually factory state with all internal partitions intact (removing clockwork).

You'll still need to get S-ON before you can accept any OTA Updates though. To do that, you'll need to install Visionary (from the 2nd link). Enable USB Debugging (Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging - Put a tick in the box). OK the message that appears. Then, again from the Application Menu, enable Unknown Sources.

Then, connect the phone to the PC in HTC Sync mode again. Open HTC Sync (on the PC), and on the main screen, select Application Installer. From there, navigate to wherever you put the Visionary apk, select it and it will install the app on the phone for you.

Once installed, disconnect the phone from the PC, open the Visionary app on the phone and select Temproot Now.

From there, follow the instructions given in this video except rather than selecting S-OFF. select S-ON.

Reboot and that should be you sorted. Unless anyone sees I've missed anything?

I beg to differ you live in Bolton, Lancashire Merseyside and Greater Manchester as council administrative areas ceased to exist back in the early 90's. I refer you to: The Friends of Real Lancashire
I would be willing to sort this for you my friend. However owing to my employment you would need to be flexible as to when I can sort it for your good self. PM me if you still require help.
