My Desire HD notified me there was a software update available which would fix some issues with GPS. The update installed successfully, but when the phone rebooted, the WiFi was switched off.

Now when I try to switch WiFi back on, the WiFi status changes to "Error". There are no other messages that I can see with any more information.

I have done a factory reset, but no joy

Can you still see all of the connections you had set up previously? After a factory reset, some of the settings will download themselves again, WiFi is one of them iirc.

Can you forget the connection info for all connections, then try again?

Ah, that makes sense. I neglected to mention that I am also waiting for a new SIM card as it developed a fault so my phone will not detect it (interestingly my old blackberry detects it fine yet my wifes SIM works in my desire).

Maybe I just need to be patient.
