Default how to turn off loud speaker?

Hi guys. noob here. Just a quick question. On the hTC Desire, I've done something, which begins all my calls with the loud speaker enabled. How do I disable this?

Many thanks..

Remove battery and re-insert. No idea why it works but it does.
