Default My Htc Desire is deleting my text messages!

My Htc Desire is deleting my text messages whithout me wanting it to do so. This is so frustrating! Anyone having the same problem? Is it my SD card it's something wrong with? Or what could be the problem?

Cheers, Erik

Check the settings in your text message box - the Desire can be set to automatically delete old messages with a pre-defined limit. Be sure you haven't turned this on (Messages | press Menu | Settings ). It should only delete old messages though.

My HTC desire did this yesterday as well! I definitely had the box unchecked to automatically delete texts, I remember checking this during set up and checked it again- definitely no tick in that box.

It hasn't just deleted the long conversations it has deleted all my texts from everyone- I am really annoyed as I had some important stuff in there!

I'm in the UK and on orange if that makes a difference.

It's unchecked, but it's still deleting ALL of my messages. I'm in Norway on the Telenor network. I doesn't think it matters where you are. I'm going to contact Htc and come back with the answer.

My phone just deleted all my texts yesterday, the ones I got since are still there- I just worry in a few weeks it will do the same thing again.

Mine has now done this 3 times. Always seems to happen just as sending a message, then it struggles, maybe giving a Force Close message, and all messages gone. Be nice to hear a resolution to this, as its getting pretty irritating.

Must be one of your settings somewhere.

Had my Desire 4 months and this has never happened

I haven't had this issue either, although recently, my desire deleted all my APN settings for no reason.

I have the exact same issues with my emails. I have tried everything and now just have to live with it.
The Desire is touted as being a phone you can have your way - Not mine. Id love to be able to have the option too have my emails stay in my inbox, but no, its not to be.

I think there are quite a few bugs in android and then a few more bugs in the HTC version of Android. Most the issues I had on the HTC software have gone away with using custom vanilla android, but then other problems replace them,

Emails can be deleted automatically if using a POP server . If you can set up your server to be IMAP via your ISP. Adjust settings on your Desire email program ..

Then all emails will stay until you delete them .

This randomly happened to me again, I've had my Desire since launch date...Which is March I think? It's never happened before and I didn't have that box ticked!

Any idea's on what caused it? Quite annoying as some of my contacts are synced to their facebook mobile numbers through contacts and I use Gesture search so I always call the wrong number... I normally call them off my text messages

Unhappy

Hi Guys,

My first post....I'm using HTC Desire 2.2 and I have set up my working email account.
Everything worked fine, but when I arrived toady at work, I have discovered that the emails downloaded by me during the weekend on my phone, were deleted from the email server, so I was not able to download them in outlook.
I'm using IMAP settings, and not POP3.

Can you please advice me on how should I proceed for the emails to be downloaded on my phone, and in the same time to keep them also on the email server?

Thank You!!

My Desire has just done the same thing.
Lost all my SMS and MMS messages yesterday, and had to restore from the backup I had using MyBackup Pro, but woke up this morning and they've all gone again.
Phone hasn't been off, just charged, and the box for deleting old messages definitely isn't ticked (I have over 3300 msg's...).

I upgraded to 2.2 this week so didn't know if that had affected anything, but it appears a few people are having this problem.

Any help would be appreciated, it's so frustrating!

Cheers

Default Desire HD doing it too

Hi all

got a brand new HTC Desire HD, a week old with Froyo 2.2 on Vodafone in the UK.

On top of the fault with the proximity sensor (so after each phone call i have to take the battery out of the phone to end the call) now I've just lost all my SMS messages! I use chompSMS (which is great) but all SMS have been deleted out of that app and the standard built in Messaging app

Really not impressed. Am getting a replacement later this week and hope that works

not able to add any suggestions, but another one to whom it happened.

I was using Handcent, and uninstalled that on the premise that it had ballsed up.
Perhaps not, and I was wrong to blame it!!

My turn to lose all my texts!

I had just installed the new version of Poweramp which went straight to SD thanks to the tweak found in this forum. I moved it back to phone to make sure I could use the widget, powered off and on again. Part way through powering on the phone restarted spontaneously. When it finished booting my texts had gone.

I've been using Handcent for a few weeks with no problems. This is the first time this has happened.

Hmm, if you go into Handcent settings, is the ad at the bottom always for their Online VIP version offering SMS backup and restore? Surely they wouldn't...would they???

Same problem: Updated to 2.2 last week, probably six days ago, sent a text today and now they are all gone, NO BACK-UP, argh. I guess that teaches me.

Also i have been sending and receiving texts just fine up until this happened today. No new apps and no changes in settings have been made to my desire either. Hope there is a fix soon.

Just went into Handcent and noticed all my TXTs are gone too, apart from 2 of them.

Very annoying.

Default Me too

This has happened to me 3 or 4 times since i bought the phone in March, doing my head in to be honest, keep on loosing important txt messages, I've even got back up my txt messages to SD card ticked on my phone and that don't appear to be working any idea's as to why it's not backing up my sms messages.

Cheers

Had this a couple of days ago too.

Sent a text and the phone seemed to struggle a little bit, then the text message box went blank. Thought nothing of it but when I went back to the main text inbox everything had gone. Thought the phone might have lost track of them for a while. Turned the phone off and back on again but they still weren't there, so they are gone for good.

Bit of a pain, nothing important was lost, but there were a couple of pics I would have liked to save. But now I know to make sure I save them straight away just incase it happens again. Using Handcent (for 4 months which is how long I've had the phone) and 2.2. and on Orange.

My 2.2 Desire just did this to me too. No boxes ticked anywhere.

Posting a ticket with HTC.

EDIT: So, HTC responded with the usual support mumbo jumbo. Do I have some software for backing up messages, has someone else deleted my messages, were the messages on the SIM or whatever. Have answered NO to all those questions, awaiting further reply.

EDIT 2: Two days, no reply from HTC.

Bummer. I've just received a text this morning, went to read it, went into Handcent and it only displayed that one message - which I thought was a bit odd, so read the text, went out of Handcent and then back in but there was still only the one message. Panicking I then checked the stock Messages app - but that only displayed the one message too - so it's not a Handcent issues! But...everything is just gone? I can't believe it?! I hope HTC release a fix for this, BUT if everything has been wiped, I can't see it happening and I can't see them getting anything back - had my Desire for AGES now and this is the FIRST and ONLY time it's ever cocked up...ANNOYED!

This just hit my Desire on Three (UK). Had the handset since July, updated to Froyo around a month ago, been texting and making calls today fine, then randomly my text messages vanished. It's not a deletion, as I had a couple of messages 'protected' and yet EVERYTHING vanished.

Randomly, first thing this morning I noticed one of my IMAP email accounts was showing messages from another account. It wouldn't refresh, and if I tried to open one of the messages on the incorrect account it wouldnt open. Switching to the correct account the messages load fine. I deleted and then re-added the account that was behaving strangely and everything returned to normal, on the email front anyway...

I'm not sure if this is anything particularly to do with Handcent or with the phone software it's self - don't know who to direct my anger towards!

I don't use Handcent, or indeed any other third party messaging software, so the bug must lie within HTCs software surely?

Dagnammit! I have no further help to offer other than my own story of SMS/MMS related woe. All of my txts have also spontaneously vanished. I had been receiving msgs this morning without a problem. Viewed my bulging inbox with it's many hundreds of messages. Sent a text to a friend and then bam! All gone. No warning message, no force close. I turned the phone on and off but no change. The last msg I sent is the only one showing up.
I'm running 2.2 on HTC Desire. I've had the phone since May and have had NO problems with the phone until now. I've also checked my setting and I know I didn't have the "delete old messages" box ticked. It's still unticked. This sucks! If anyone has a work around or a solution, it would be much appreciated!
Until this is sorted, HTC DESIRE officially can suck it!

Advice to you all!
Dear HTC Desire users! I've contacted my service provider, the shop where I bought the phone and the manufacturer - HTC. No one can offer a solution.
SUCKS!
Anyway, the main problem it seems is that the issue isn't being logged with HTC and therefore they can't work around the problem. So, please, if you're having any problem with your phone, including the problem detailed above, please report the problem to HTC. HTC ? Support ? Customer Service ? Support via Hotline
I called the UK helpdesk and they were friendly and helpful. They also picked up in under 3 minutes.

Exactly the same problem experienced today - 7 months worth of sent/received texts, all in one foul swoop.

Definitely not checked 'delete old messages'.

Using stock message app.

HTC - SORT THIS OUT, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND YOU CHOOSE TO IGNORE BY THE SOUNDS OF IT!!!

Most of us would provide log files if we knew how, and you could probably replicate in a lab and provide a fix.

I have praised the HTC Desire since launch, and this is the first major downfall IMHO

Hi!
From Italy, I had the same problem with htc desire Z.
It's horrible, I don't have anymore my messages.
There's some solutions?

P.S.: I'm really sad for this Htc. I'm thinking to sell it.

Hi guyz, tomorrow I'll talk with the Htc Technical support. So I'll write the news about this horrible problem.

P.S.: Sms backup+ (i installed this great app that sync all the sms with gmail. Unfortunately I knew too much late)

Hi all

I got my HTC desire the day it was released here in the UK (5th April) on Vodafone. No problems at all, other than it's been getting a bit sluggish to navigate around the phone for the past month or so, especially when browsing SMS messages.

I absolutely adore the phone, best phone I've ever had. I use it and rely on it for almost everything. I've been raving about it to everyone.

However, on Saturday, my phone randomly lost all my SMS messages (of which there were literally thousands) from the past 8 months. No warning, no reset, I wasn't even using the phone at the time, it was sat on my desk on standby. I didn't have the option ticked to auto delete messages.

It's a real shame because I'm now concerned about how much I rely on the phone and what else might randomly disappear.

I will definitely be backing up SMS messages from now on and everything else on the phone. It's just a shame so many people are losing sentimental messages

Can Android please look into this problem?

Si

Just had this happen to me too, lost about 400 messages to & from various people. The phone made gave a message received notification, but when I checked it, there was no new message, and all my previous texts had gone too. Luckily there was nothing important there, but quite irritating!

Spoke to HTC customer services, the guy had never heard of this before, but I pointed out that a good deal of people online had posted the exact same issue, so this answer wasn't really good enough. He spoke to a manager who had heard of this, but there was not much they could do about it other than log the problem and escalate it to make the company aware it. He said if it is a software glitch (which it is) then a fix would be released in due course, plus Android 2.3 will be available as an update in the new year, so this may fix it anyway.

Default Me too

I just experienced the issues you described, just lost well over 1000 messages on my Desire HD that I've had about 3 months. No biggie, just bloody annoying.

I would note that the phone has been acting strangely for the last couple of weeks. The message tone would only sometimes sound, and I would have to open my messages frequently to see if a new message had appeared.

My phone also kept forgetting the "linked" people between my contacts and their facebook accounts. Possibly an un-related problem, but the timing makes me think otherwise.

All these things seem to have happened to me after a system update about a week ago. Everything was fine until that update...

I have the some problem on my Desire Z. The phone acted strange yesterday. And just like you, I had to verify if I recieved a new message. And now, all my messages have been deleted. Thank you HTC...

Default sms deleted

All my text messages have been deleted January 3rd 2011 (Android version 2.2.1 - HTC Desire Z). I didn't have the "delete old messages" box ticked. Very annoying. Thanks Android.

Serious question. Why on earth would anyone keep several months and/or several hundred, nay thousands, of text messages?

ps. sorry to hear you've lost them

I want to keep billions of text messages in my phone, what is the problem? I just want a phone that don't delete all of them without any notification.

And yet another victim...
I had the Desire HD from the day it was released here in the Netherlands, and though I've had some glitches it worked fine. I updated the phone to 2.2.1 last week, and it's been running smoother than ever before (over 100hours online without problems). As I picked up my phone this afternoon to send a text, all of the 2000+ messages were gone...
Emails are still here (possibly because all of my accounts are gmail or on imap), contacts are unaffected, gtalk chats are still present as well; it's really just the messages

As a sidenote: did anyone else try the HTCSense.com service? I noticed it didn't work at all for me with the previous software, but started working after the update. But, while I can finally see my contacts online, it still said I had no messages... Could it be because of this?

I have contacted HTC, and expect a reaction within a couple of days - they were really quick with their answer last time.
Will post again.
