Default WiFi connection not working after using WiFi hotspot?

So, tonight I decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2.

GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would.

Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.

Have currently tried -

+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding

WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence.

I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now

Anything short of re-flashing the ROM, ...... any ideas?

Cheers,
Dave.

WiFi hotspot is a feature of some 2.2 based ROM's.

If you have it, it's under:
Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot

Enjoy!

Hi

I'm a newbie and not yet completely familiar with my new HTC Desire (on 2.2 Froyo). Just started to experiment with the hotspot facility yesterday, and I got onto one in Adelaide (city) yesterday. I was in a hurry so didn't have time to play around with it much.

Can someone direct me to a map or guide to where the hotspots may be found? I have just done a quick google but it didn't come up with exactly what I'm looking for.

There are also several Internode hotspots in the city which I've used before. These are free for anyone - but I assume the HTC hotspots are only for HTC users?

Any info welcome.

(Btw I didn't have any trouble logging on to home wi-fi afterwards.)

Hi seesaw,

I think you're combining two different features of the WiFi on 2.2 ...

"WiFi Hotspot" refers to the inbuilt application to share your mobile network signal with other devices using your built-in Wireless Transceiver.

What you're referring to is simply finding "Open" networks with your WiFi switched on. For this, there are no definitive websites that I know of ... if you get onto one, let me know!

I know my local Macca's here in Mt. Barker have free WiFi

Hi patpending

Thanks very much for your reply - I understand now. (I don't think I'll be needing to use that facility in the near future, but you never know!)

i tried using hotspot in a poor coverage area so it wouldnt connect at all. decided to use the usb connection instead and obv it came on. @home wifi still worked fine on my desire but wonder if it really IS a problem that needs to be sorted?
