Issue: Cannot install software updates and phone not syncing via htc sync software.

I bought a htc desire from ebay, It is in perfect condition, and have been told it was only used for 3 weeks or so.

Anyway, I am trying to update system software. Sometiems it starts downloading it, and then stops for some reason. Other times I get the following message:

so i try again and get the same message again.

When i try to sync the desire via usb using htc sync 3.0 or even 2.0 it remains disconnected and doesnt detect that the phone is connected.

I dont know why but other com errors have popped up too. I can however browse the internet on it and make calls as normal. Wifi works mostly fine.

Can someone please help me to resolve this? Any other info you need?
