Default Self-servicing the volume down button...

So, my volume down button has pretty much had it (it has for a while now), like a lot of Desires, it seems (from some Google'ng). I have to press very hard to get it to work. Like, squeezing the phone until it creaks.

Is it hard to fix this yourself? I found some disassembly videos on YouTube and I'm used to servicing things myself, but I can't tell if the volume buttons are separate or if they are soldered to the motherboard.

I can solder, but I'm not too willing to do anything tiny. If the buttons are on a separate PCB, or I just need to clean up something then I'm good to go.

I would send it off - it's still within the original warranty (unless that resets to two years every time it gets sent away for service? It's already been for boot loops). But I'll need to use the phone as a sat nav three times in the next month, plus I'd have to mess around returning it to stock (rooted/SOFF'd etc), plus there seem to be some bad tales of HTC insisting on fixing very minor cosmetic damage unrelated to the problem and charging a lot for it, or disposing of your phone.
