Default Take a screenshot without root access on HTC Desire?

Hey guys!

I am using a HTC Desire, A8181 with Android 2.2 Froyo and original ROM. It is not rooted. My question being, is it any way possible to take screenshots on this phone without root access?

I did install Android SDK and got it all set up and working, with ADB and everything. And I managed to take some screenshots with the DDMS (Dalvik Debug Monitor). But I just think it's a little bit complicated for such a simple task, not to mention that you don't always have access to a PC, especially not one with Android SDK and Java SDK.

What about that power button and home button combo? Does it really work on Android 2.3? Would I be able to install the Android 2.3 on this phone?

Please advise. Thanks!

Without root, no.
I believe the way you are currently using is the only way.

Thanks for the tip about the My Phone Explorer. I just tried it, it works great. So far I have only tried it with USB cable connected, but it should work with WiFi too. Yes, it still needs some sort of PC connection but it's at least a little bit easier than the DDMS method.

What about Android 2.3? Does it support screenshooting right on the device? Or is it a Android 4.0 feature only?

Thanks!

I used to use this one, that stays on your phone unless you shut it down:

Not all phones with 2.3. It depends on the phone.
And the screenshot that I posted a minute ago, the shootme, works on Froyo (or at least it did when I used it on my Optimus T) too.
(not sure if I am supposed to share app links or not, hence the ss.)

I think the No Root Screenshot It is an important leap forward. However, it does require you to connect the phone with a USB cable to the computer from where you then enable the screenshot functionality on your phone for the first time you want to use it. And a second, more important to mention drawback is that once you reboot your phone you are at square one again and you have to go through this process again.

So while No Root Screenshot It is sort of 'the best' thing yet for unrooted Android phones it's still not a permanent solution.

I think Google should let us all have the screenshot functionality, it should be enabled really on all Android devices from the beginning, with no need to root.

I mean if they continue to lock in these phones like they do then they are no better than Apple, not by much anyway. It's like they are begging us to root it. Don't they know that most of us who use these phones are geeks and nerds and that we want this kind of functionality?

And then they say the warranty is voided if you do it!? It's like they are throwing a string-attached coin into a blind beggar's jar and then pull the string. It may not be a very good analogy but all I know is that they are all evil, it's just that some are more and some less. But Apple is of course the worst in the bunch.

Well, the warranty for my Desire is about to end this year anyway, so I will be looking into rooting it. But as a temporary solution I will be using the My Phone Explorer for my screen shooting needs. Thanks for the tip!

Try this one:

Read the reviews. Works on Desire S and HD w/o root. No PC needed.

Oops. I screenshot the paid version.
There is a trial version also.
