There are lots of threads regarding installing new roms and many of these lead to Droid-Den (server currently seems to be down). Is there a simple guide to restoring nandroid to get you phone working again if the rom you install doesnt work OK?
Quick question, and sorry if it's already been posted:
I added a folder to my sdcard called /video, and transferred a few videos from my computer to the sdcard, but I can't find the videos I put in when I get back into phone mode.
Is there an app someone can recommend I look for, for videos, or should I be looking somewhere in particular on my phone to find the videos?
Do you have a file manager installed? If not install either astro file manager or estrongs and then you can use one of them to view the folders on your sd card.

Does anybody know if there's a way of tagging photos of people when you upload them to Facebook? I'd say (after a couple of months) that's the biggest annoyance/disappointment I've found with the phone so far.
Oh, & does anyone also know if there's a way of getting the photos in the gallery to display with the most current photo first when you open it up? At the moment the earliest photo comes up & to get to the most recent one (probably the one you're most likely to want to use) you have to scroll through all the others - is a bit tedious.

i've problem with wma audio files played in native music player
it seems that all the tags on wma are ignored, they are recognized as unknown artist...but when i got them on my pc it shows the artist and album name...

If you are on Froyo, this is a known bug with no workaround yet ( I believe)

No real need to "close browser", just "back up" out of it, to main menu 9using the "back" key on your phone.
With regard to "logging off", if you mean logging off a website, out of an account, then you should of course have a "log out" button on the site. if you mean (and I guess you do) "log off" the website, then again use the "back up"/"return" key on your phone.
(Android will take care of the rest)

Log out of a webpage using the Log Out button on the page, and close the browser using the Back button or, if using Dolphin, long press the back button.

OK, so after having nose about this site and finding a few other people complaining of the same storage/contact/space issues, I noticed that somebody mentioned that they'd had success with clearing their 'contact storage' data, so I gave it a go and serendipitously enough, it flipping worked. I totally can't have FB on active sync duties either, but that's fine. I really do think that this pain in the arse glitch should be sorted out at source, however- not everyone has the resources nor the inclination to go trawling websites for solutions to 'phone-based problems and for such an advanced piece of kit, it seems strange that there's no cap on how many times a contact from the same source can be suggested and it's beyond me why it's then kept on the 'phone to slowly (or actually quite swiftly) fill the thing up so that it comes to a grinding shoe-thrown-into-the-works stasis and also I genuinely don't get why programmes and the like are sent to the 'phone- it's not as if we couldn't back everything up to the PC quite easily if the memory card was being upgraded or whathaveyou- I'm sure that it wouldn't be too much of a chore for some HTC minion to write that into the HTC Sync.exe, right? Yes, I can root the thing- no, I've never done it before, but am quietly confident that the comprehensive instructions detailed on this very site will see me in good stead. I'd give this 'phone a 4.8 styled rating IF none of the strangely obvious issues existed but, as is, it drops a whole star for all the nonsense that I've had to go through. As do HTC generally.

Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All.
Press Menu again after the list has fully loaded and select "Sort by size". The Contacts Storage should be near the top of the list, or you can find it alphabetically.

Fortunately I had made a backup (albeit a couple of months ago) and in fairness the previous post was talking about an unecessary amount of data backing up duplicate contacts that occasionally needs clearing. As far as I'm concerned my contacts should be there on the phone unless I physically go and select/delete them (obviously not but hindsights a wonderful thing isn't it!) my point is that I just feel when you post instructions like this you should be highlighting the fact that such a reset can have devastating consequences, please don't just start calling people an idiot just because they might not be as "savvy" as someone like yourself!

My reply was to a question asking where contact storage was, but to clarify:
Deleting the Contacts Storage data will wipe your contacts from your phone. That includes Google contacts, imported contacts, Facebook contacts, Exchange contacts, everyone. It will also sign you out of any online directories you have signed in to, such as Facebook.
I have actually said this a number of times in the past on different threads: that deleting the data is the best solution for people who have signed in to the Facebook online directory and now have the problem of 50mb+ of contact data clogging up phone storage space.
This is why, in my opinion, that all personal phone contacts should be added as Google contacts and synced with a Google account. That way, you always have a back up of all your important contacts, and the phone with drag them back off the Google website after any problem that requires clearing contact data or a factory reset.

Thanks for the far more constructive reply! I think I will look at making mine into google contacts, when I get a spare few hours! As it happens, mine didn't show that amount of storage space used but I thought it may just clear some of the duplicate suggestions that message app sometimes gives. All's well that ends well.

got my droind friday and have been well impressed and thankfull for all the tips on this thread and read through them all last night, and with the voice dialling comments mine worked fine held down search and voice dialling came on all good but went to use it this morning and all that comes up is Connection Problem - speak again or cancel am I going to have to reset and load up all the apps i loaded up last night and if I do how do I go about doing it?

Werent a silly question and yep Id disabled the interent last night as from just putting a couple of apps and angry birds on yesterday i used 75 mb didnt look at no vids or go on fb so turned it off, was i being silly in thinking that voice dialling would work with out internet on? and thanks for replying

I MAY be wrong, but I do believe there needs to be some on-line interaction when using voice.
just something to add while iv been working with android from day 1, and work with it everyday, if you are setting up email account(s) and the screen gets stuck on "trying to locate google server" and after 5 mins it fails, there is only one way this can be fixed, and you have to factory reset, because when you get the phone brand new, its supposed to be made that you set up your accounts there and then, but some people dont, then realise they cant access the market, then create a gmail account, and cant get any further, this is the reason. i hope this helps people out.
am totally new to smartphones..am with HTC Desire now.
1. Does the BACK button behaves as minimizing a running application? or it exits?..am a little confused coz my machine seems to hang a lil here and there now..probably i used it too often?
2. Under "manage applications"..we do see running apps, do we need to 'force stop' to save battery life? or it's running coz i did not exit the app properly (so far i only know how to use the BACK button to close any application)

and you're totally new to forums as well judging by the double post and asking questions that have been answered many times
1. the back button will minimise or close apps as the android OS sees fit. kind of self-regulating so that a task killer is not needed (i repeat..never, not, no way needed).
2. you don't really need to force stop anything. you only need to be aware of what is running and you can do this by setting up your desire properly with regards to syncing etc.

Hi, im with Three and have the Desire, it automatically enables Wi-Fi and then automatically switches back to moblie internet when i leave the area. Has worked out of the box.
Only issue is that Skype can not run over Wi-Fi and will disconnect when you connect to a Wi-Fi network.

Have you got any widgets for Wifi and mobile internet? Because my mobile connection doesn't connect automoatically. Everytime when I'm outside, I've to go to the settings to start it.

Plug in your HD, to your laptop, and you SHOULD see it (on your 'puter) as an "external drive". The phone will also ask whether to connect to "Charge Only?", "HTC Sync?", "Connect as drive?". You need to "click" on "Connect as a drive". On your laptop, look for the external drive, where you should then be able to connect to
