Default Want To Play GameBoy Advance Games on Your HTC Desire

play any gameboy advance games on your htc desire
A step by step guide.
1 go to the android market and download Gameboid lite (free)
2 now download a "bios" for the emulator (link removed)
3 next step go to (link removed) download the roms "games" you want
4 extract the game/rom file from the folder you downloaded using a program like "winrar" easily found on google
5 save bios and extracted games onto your memory stick, i suggest creating a new folder called GBA or something and putting them in there for convenience
6 right with all of your stuff saved onto your memory card open gameboid and firstly it will ask you to locate the bios file from your memory card, simple enough you just browse the card, next it will ask you to select the game you want to play, after done that you can take it from their you will see a settings menu you dont need to change anything
7 one exited the setting menu your free to play.

NOTES
*games save
*i sugest downloading pokemon red if you used to play the pokemon games
* should work on other models i just have the desire
*game play is smooth and just as fast as it was on the gba
*download many games as the file sizes are unbelievably small

jason

Anyone else get annoyed with trackpad/virtual keypad.... any alternatives? With games like Mario etc it's too fast paced to use either

@tbl they should swap it with a stick, and the axis on the stick should swap depending if your holding it horizotaly or verticaly!!

Yup, then it would be great. At the moment the games look great but are quickly tiresome due to being pretty much unplayable. iPhone/iPod are the same with action style games.

Works great, just the inputs keys for gameplay that let it down.

If you're a pokemon fan, and don't have it, there's a Pokedex app call 'Pokedroid'

So, what are some of the games you guys are playing?

I've only 'installed' a few roms to try out the program, but am looking for some good/fun games to play comfortably (so no fighting games or anything that involves a lot of awkward control issues).

Thanks for this. I just can't get it to work though. I get the message "load ROM failed. Please try another file."

I've downloaded another bios and copies of the games from different places but it still gives the same error.

@ashrob when u downloaded the rom did you extract the file inside? or did you just copy and paste it into the sd card without extracting?

Both. When I extracted it to a *.gbc file it didn't show up, only the zipped file showed up.

@ashrob sorry for the late reply ive.been busy at work, i have just been through everything pn the list it all works, i think the problame is with the extracting, instead of extracrting from the file to the phones sd, exctract it from the folder to your desktop then copy it in, also are you sure what you are downloadong from (removed) is a game boy advance game?

Not sure if I'm missing something, but was I supposed to also be able to load saved games? While I can save games in progress, I'm unable to load, getting a message that loading isn't available in the lite version (or something to that effect).

So I'm supposed to extract the file before putting it on the phone? In that case something is wrong because I can only see the files when they're zipped. Once I've extracted them and then put them on the phone, I can't see them.

Just had a little play on Mario Kart! Loved it! Controls took a bit of getting used to, think I prefer the on-screen keypad to the sensor-movement for steering! Thanks for the guide Jason

Confused Stability of some Roms?

Has anyone experienced ROMs that arent that stable? Theres been a few games that have quit unexpectedly whilst Im playing them. THPS2, Golden Sun and GTA has this issue. I couldnt even start playing GTA Advance.

Is this a ROM, Phone or emulator issue? I can play all the other games ive downloaded with no noticeable issues. I know a lot of other people had the same problem with GTA

Just to be clear, I am talking about browsing through the Gameboid app on my phone to the place on my phone's sd card where I keep the files to play the games on my phone. I have extracted the zipped file on my pc and then put it on my phone's sd card and I can't see the file on my phone when I browse to it through Gameboid. I can see zipped files on my phone when I browse to them through Gameboid, but not unzipped ones.

If gamebopid is the same as genesoid (same dev) then it should handle the zips anyway. Have you tried opening the zip with gameboid?

I have, it just gives a file error. I've used mame emulators on my pc and Xbox and have also used the snes emulator on my G1 and never had any troubles with them. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong but I could be missing something competely obvious, it wouldn't be the first time!

What file extensions are the roms? Should be .bin or .smd. Is this correct?

Anyone using the gameboid or snesoid emulators, a great companion app is 'rom buddy' it automatically lists and installs thousands of roms from various rom sources compatible with these emulators.

saves a lot of time and effort finding ones that work.
