Hi, I just want to ask if this rooting process would still work for Android 2.2 software number 1.34.707.5?

Thanks Slug for the replies and keeping the thread current. Don't have my Z anymore as I have moved on to the S2.

Default rooting Desire Z

Hello Folks

The above rooting guide will work with Android 2.3.3 ??

Scared to death!!! doing a rooting for first time and only just to get reed off this poxy app "stocks" that uses 10 permissions without me knowing that is running or not. You need a Task manager to tell you that this *****g app is accessing your contacts, SMSs, calendar, and everything you've got in your phone. You try to stop it and starts again, HTC says "no way to uninstall it comes with the phone". YOU HAVE A BIG BROTHER and you don't even know yet. Check it out...

Now back to my question please. Does this rooter works with 2.3.3 ?

Thanks

Nope, you still have to downgrade to an earlier firmware version that allows permanent root afaik.

edit: This topic appears to confirm the above.

Ok so I have frustrated for the past few weeks about this and probably longer it seems. I am new to rooting an Android phone so that probably has part to do with it, but I have been following the official HTC Unlock Tool just to be safe. I have the T-Mobile G2 and right now I am currently stuck on Step 8, where it asks you to "enter fastboot oem gt_identifier_token". At first when I would enter it it would say "ERROR!! Command Error!!" but I did some tweaking and now when I enter the code, it says "waiting for device" and then when I click "fastboot" on my phone, it comes in the command prompt as "command error" still. I tried looking googling the problem and saw on different sites that people said you have to "downgrade hboot" for it to work, but those posts were from January and I saw someone respond saying "I spoke with HTC and they said their tools are incompatible with hboot, expect a new release in 2-3 business weeks." I assume since then they have updated hboot so that it is compatible now, but if not maybe I do need to downgrade "hboot?" I even tried calling HTC but they said you have to contact HTCDev seperately, and they don't have a hotline to call so yeah. Is there anything I am doing wrong you can think of, such as really needing to downgrade "hboot.?" Anyone who would like to offer help it is much appreciated.

have you installed the htcdev compatible hboot? i just went to htcdev and looks like t mobile g2 is a supported device.

when you boot into hboot or fastboot,do you have a big, pink, LOCKED at the top of the screen?

the command errors you are getting are because the bootloader does not understand the commands. i assume its just a typo in the post, but your command above is missing the"e" in get... fastboot oem get_identifier_token is the correct command,if you were pasting the above command, that may be the prollem

No, it doesn't show the LOCKED at the top. I remember you telling me if it did that means it is compatible right? Idk what to do now And the "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" part was just a typo I've had here. When I put it in the command prompt it was spelled correctly.
And yes, i have tryed following the instructions at the HTCDev site, but I can only get to the command prompt part and then it says "ERROR!" What to do now?
