Default My Desire Z keeps going unresponsive like once everyday ..

Hi guys .. Well I recently got my HTC Desire Z about a month ago, and still like having it for one week or so, I've had this problem that my Desire Z keep going unresponsive when its looked .. That is to say, when its locked and I press the power button to make it light up so that I can unlock it, nothing happens .. its doesn't light up .. In such a condition pressing or doing anything doesn't make it light up so that I can unlock it and use the phone .. My only option is to take the battery out and re-insert it and then turn on the phone .. This happens on average like once a day ... Also, I havent really figured out what may be causing this .. it just seems random ..

Other than this the phone works fine in every respect .. It locks and unlocks fine and there's no major lag or anything at any time ..

Any ideas what may be causing this ? Does it sound like a hardware issue of a software issue ? Could an application be causing this ? I admit I installed like 50 apps on my phone within the first 24 hours, and have been installing more apps regularly ..

My suggestion: reset to factory defaults and run like this for a few days. If the issue continues I'd then recommend returning it as faulty. If it doesn't then reinstall apps and watch for the problem returning. You'll therefore have an idea which one might be at fault.

I realise that this will be a PITA but it will quickly confirm or exclude third-party software.

Hi, do you use your GPS often? A few phones cause problems after gps was used and just 'freeze'. To rule it out, enable gps, use gmaps or any other app which uses gps, stop using gps and after a while the phone should freeze in standby. Greets

I dont think its the GPS, and I don't really use it much ..

Well so I called HTC Support about 10 days ago, and the guy whom I spoke with told me to go into the Applications area in Settings, and do a 'Clear Data' for the application named 'HTC Sense' .. there were two applications in my case with this same name, and he told me to do this for the one which has 'HTC Corporation' written under it .. This essentially restores the desktop configuration to the factory one .. That is, all widgets are placed as they were originally, and the wallpaper is the original one too ... I did this and for the past 10 days, my phone has reset only 2-3 times, instead of happening every single day ... I still use the phone just as much as before ...

So what could this mean ? And what should I do now ?

Hello
Me too. I've had a HTC Desire Z for one month. Within days of getting it, the phone would not respond when I tried to use the power button. I thought it must be a dead battery, but when I tried to recharge it the light would not come on. So (having disconnecting the power charger) I removed and replaced the battery and it came back to life, showing a reasonably health battery level. The battery seems to retain its charge (at least for a day's use) so I don't think it is a battery problem - unless it is not sitting correctly, but it looks snug. The phone has now done this three times, it just refuses to wake up, and this appears to be random. It has not died/frozen while being used, but rather gone to sleep and not woken up when I picked it up. Between deaths it seems to be healthy. This is my first smartphone and I was impressed with it, and initially presumed I was missing some magical button combination that would revive it. Now, having scanned through some of the previous posts, I am concerned that this is a common problem with this phone. The phone is now going back. The supplier has agreed to supply me with a new one. Should I be considering getting another model? As a novice, and non technical, user of forums I hope I've captured the essensce of my woes (without flauting ettiquette or moaning). Best Marysia

In the first two months, this happened to me twice. I had to do a battery pull to get it to restart. It hasn't happened since I think beginning of January. Not sure if the unit just needs a couple of months to burn in. I had a few weird problems with the phone rebooting or shutting off. The only special thing I did the first month was I took out the battery and cleaned the contacts on the battery and the phone and put the battery back in. Did this a few times. After the first couple of months, it was working without any of these issues.

Hi Marysia, and welcome!

If you like the Z then I say give a replacement a chance. It does seem to be a fairly isolated problem which only affects a small subset of users - I've had no such issues with mine since I bought it in November.

Perfectly... you describe the problem and what you've looked at as possible cures very clearly.

I think what happening is one of those Google service trying to do a sync action but fail.
The same thing happen to me once per day, after which, I would get the google apps sync error message. Then the phone will work just fine afterwards everyday.

Hi,

You're right. GPS seems to be the culprit. I already did some experiments. When you're in a car and even if you're not using your phone but you're using your car GPS then after an hour or two when your phone is idle, it will automatically unresponsive. You can't turn it on unless you remove the battery.

I had issues with my phone rebooting when using Google Maps while driving. This was many months ago. Then after one of the Google Maps updates, I didn't have any issues any more. Perhaps you can try updating your mapping app.

Mines doing the same. Worse though; when I open with the keyboard it doesn't light up and when I open the keyboard (as if to text etc) my screen changes colour; I think I have a faulty connection between the keyboard and screen. Just waiting to save enough money for the Sensation
