Default SD Card contents disappear

Photos from my SD card, including music and videos seem to disappear. I tried using SDRescan but it is starting to annoy me since everytime I had to open the gallery, I have to scan the memory card first so I could view my files. is there any way to fix this besides having to use SDrescan every now and then? Thanks.
