Default Protocol for Google Talk on Android

Does anyone know which protocol Google Talk on Android uses? I know that for the Talk application on Gmail uses the Jabber/XMPP protocol. I need to know what protocol (or if it's the same protocol) that's the protocol being used on port 5228.

The reason being, my organization will open the port to the Android sync and push services but only for that specific protocol (for security purposes obviously).

It would be really helpful if someone could also link me to the official Android help pages that show this.

Thanks a lot guys!

When i googled around i found that this wikipedia link had something about protocol in it..
Google Talk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Read it from the top it says something about protocol there on the first line..
Not sure its exactly what you're looking for but i have zero experience of this so its the best i can do.

Thanks for taking the time to look for a solution. However, the wiki page mentions the same info I already know: the google talk desktop application uses the XMPP protocol but it doesn't mention anything about the Android version of Talk. Since the Talk app on Android uses a different port all together, you can't really say that it uses the same protocol (as far as I know).

Your help is still appreciated though.

ports and protocols are two entirely different things. I am not saying for fact that they both use the same protocol, however just because it uses a different port does not mean it is on a different protocol. In fact, more likely than not, it does use the same protocol.

True as that is, I need to confirm that and find some official document that shows this so I can present it to the IT Services.
