Default SG3 vs N2 vs DNA

I had this discussion in the Note Thread - but it really didn't go anywhere - so - let's see what happens here:

Here's the deal - not a huge HTC fan (had the TBolt - and was the primary reason I got the SIII).

Between the 2 manufactures - IMHO - there is no comparison in build quality - HTC wins by a landslide. I'm actually really enjoying the SGIII - except (I can live with the build quality) is that the radio quality isn't up to what I really need (it pretty much is all over the place at work).

There's no question - the lack of expandable memory, and no replacement battery are 2 strikes against the DNA. I've seen a couple reviews (one here) that are very positive about the radios in Philly) where I work.

Does anyone know how the radios in the Note 2 stack up compared to the S3??

I actually went out and got something to check the network - so far - it's been SOLID LTE on my S3. The comment was regarding the DNA not dropping LTE.I'll be able to confirm (or not) my issue with the S3 dropping when I go back to work on Tuesday!!

Here's the reason I wanted to see a comparison of the S3 vs the Note 2 - 3 days at home - solid (almost 100%) 4G. 1 day @ work (and home - and travel time)

LTE 47.6%, 1xRTT 26.7%, EVDO 3.3%, EHRPD (whatever that is) 20.8%

If I upgrade - it's going to be a tough sell on the SO - or maybe a divorce - but - I seriously doubt THAT!!

DILands,

I am going to move this into the comparison forum, it usually is pretty busy with people comparing devices. Hopefully this is okay!

Otherwise feel free to tell me it's not...and if this thread doesn't get much response please inform me and we can do something about it!

The Note 2 is an overall better device than the SIII. Bigger battery, faster processor, more RAM, everything. Except that one of its best features is also the worst: The big screen. It could be too big for some.

However I don't think the difference will be so much that it will be noticeable. The best things you'd additionally get would be the S-Pen support. Basically just a better stylus than whatever you can have anywhere. The special features like AirView and Multi-Window is coming to the SIII in an update.

Well I will tell you, my coworkers S3 gets far worse 4G signal than my DNA. Hand-offs are equally bad (My Nexus was bad too). DNA is a champ with signal IMO. Unfortunately haven't heard anything about the N2 radios yet, which sounds to be the deciding factor for you.

By the way, EHRPD is just 3G when you have LTE turned on.

Yeah - it's going to be a major factor - but - I'm not willing to write Samsung off quite yet). Reason being is that the SIII is better than the TBolt (which is what I upgraded from).

SGS3 - probably your best choice. It's a phone, very reliable, UI is smooth as butter, has microSD, NFC and the Super AMOLED screen will give the deepest black levels ever seen on a smartphone. Great developer support.

Note 2 - if you want a bigger device get this. Basically an overclocked SGS3 with more features. S-Pen and art can be used for graphics and artwork.

DNA - horrible battery life destroys the good points of this smartphone. The screen is the best out of the 3. The software isn't good and you'll be experiencing some lag and bugs due to the lack of optimization of HTC Sense. Worse developer support than the Samsung phones.

I have had the S3 since July and just switched to Verizon to pick up the DNA. It easily beats the S3 IMO and also edges out the Note 2. Read my full comparison in the link below, post #6

No it doesn't.

Even if these reviews are biased, the score difference is still too large.

To me, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note 2 are much better devices than the DNA.

Yes the DNA may have a better screen, but it's lacking everywhere else.

To me, a phone is much more than the screen. For example, my SGS2's screen as 218PPI but I still love the phone because the UI is smooth and the Super AMOLED screen has the deepest black levels and most vibrant colors of any screen.

I heard the DNA's UI is laggy and has a lot of bugs, hence the lower performance score. Also the software of the DNA is lacking.

Where are these reviews from? The DNA has the superior display, resolution, processor, build quality and its $100 cheaper than the Note 2. Thats an easy win.

Why not visit the DNA forum here & see what actual owners' real experiences are. I think Antimony and 211275 are the only DNA owner to post in this thread, so they are the people here whose comments carry most weight to my mind.

I have all three (Note II x 2 (ATT and VZW)) and like the Note 2 best.

No questions asked.

I took back the DNA, it was nice but was not much better than my One X. Not to mention after two runs of Antutu it was so hot I could not hold it! For real, it got that hot, that fast. Reminds me of the Rezound too much!

So now I have Note II x 2 (VZW will get returned tomorrow because of locked down bootloader) and I will keep ATT Note II and VZW SGS3

And as far as HTC build quality over Samsung...

Yes and no...

Here is my thought....

Put case on either device and build quality is the same ;c)

This is of course all just my humble opinion.

And keep in mind... I was an HTC Fanboy untill I got my First Sammy S3.

Those are from the Verge, the guys that measured the DNA to outlast the SGS3, but called the SGS3 battery good and the DNA abysmal.

Rather than listen to the guy who revels in Samsung hyperbole here, trust user feedback here, it's worked for me.

It's all about what each individual is looking for in a phone IMO. There's always going to be a 'mine's better than yours' attitude. I've always had HTC's but I do own a Samsung and it's a good phone. I don't have any complaints with my DNA and that's good enough for me.

And don't forget the awesome radios in the GS3 and a build quality that is cereal box ready.

There are a few issues with the DNA over in that forum, but people being disappointed with battery life is not one of them. Maybe its because we had low expectations, but I am very happy with mine.

Just got rid of VZW N2, so I am back to Note 2 (ATT) and SGS3.

Still recomend Note 2 over any device.

But I also a big guy and I need a big phone.

Picked a CaseMate case at local AT&T store. Device feels more solid than granite.

NOTE II!!!!
