Hi,

I don't know which drivers I need. The thing is that I want to make my A60 go to android market and I have downloaded one tool for rerooting the phone called I think A60 upgrade tool v2 and when I start the tool program doesn't see the phone it doesn't communicate and do nothing.
Best regards,

drsnuggles, where did you get your FET T8888? Seems you're Dutch? I'm using a HTC Desire now and would like a similar dual sim phone soon so i can use a sim card from work simultanously.

- Are both sim's active at the same time?
- Can you use different ringtones for both sim's?
- Can you use dataconnection from 1 sim and still recieve a call on the other sim?
- Are you using it in Holland?
- anything else I should know about?

Thnx

-Got the phone here.
-Both sims are active in standby. So you can receive phone calls on both sims without problems. In contrast with the V350, you can receive a phone call while surfing the web. What is not possible is to receive a phone call with one sim while having an active call with the other.
-You can't select different ringtones per sim. A work-around would be an app which defines a ringtone to a number. This is feature I miss a bit for new number calling me.
-Yep, no issues. You can combine two sims which use same network as well.
-The downside: the speaker for calling is not loud enough. Well, you can hear everything clearly, but I would prefer more volume. You should also use the phone on your left ear, since the microphone is on the right side. Some Chinese design flaws I guess . It also misses a led for indicating stuff, like a missed message. But ofcourse... there's an app for that (NoLed).

I seriously like having just one phone instead of two

If it's a problem they already know about (maybe the reason why it took them so long to get it on the market) and they know they can't fix it, maybe they will tell computeruniverse to send a new one right away.

But a new one will probably have the same problem, unless our phones where part of a first bad batch and the new batches no longer have this problem.

We'll have to wait and see...
did you sent yr phone allready back to computeruniverse ?
Any idea how long this will take ??

I'm from Belgium and I bought the same phone from the same website as drsnuggles. It arrived 3 working days after my order was placed (pretty fast if you ask me, coming from Hong Kong).

Installed a custom ROM and everything seems to be working smoothly, except for the fact that the phone reboots automatically like 1x/day when in standby mode. I suspect it's caused by a software bug though, should look a bit deeper into it.

Nevertheless, I'm really happy with the phone, especially because it only cost me 220.

Hi specs and review seem nice, I have just three questions for T8888:

- is multitouch ok?
- what is battery life?
- Is screen calibration OK?

Thank you so much in advance.

Cool, could you share which are your favorite apps for dual sim usage? I use GoContacs to maintain two groups of contacts, and Calender Pad to access two Gmail calenders. Still looking for a nice message app with dual sim support. Hope you can give some tips .

Btw, the rebooting issue is probably caused by an app that crashes. Did you install an app that needed root support?

Multitouch and screen calibration are perfect. Battery life depends on the number of apps active on the background. For me it started with 2 days and is now less than 1 day, but I have way too many apps :P (over 70 now, of which a dozen is active).

Hi!

I thank all the participants for usefull info.

The specs for FET T8888 say that it comes with 1.3MP front camera. Does skype video calling work with this phone? Has anybody tried it?

Got an email back from computer universe:
unfortunately the phone is still unavailable so we recommend to contact Viewsonic in the Netherlands.
Maybe they can help you to assure that this is not a software problem.

You can contact Viewsonic Netherlands using the following contact details:

Netherlands

All ViewSonic Products

Phone: 053 484 9308

So I just did....

When the phone (again) is not available i will not be sending it back untill it is !
If I do, i am afraid it will take months to be replaced like the last time...
It is working, the line is just not a pretty sight...
I first wait what viewsonic Netherlands will advise..

Ringtones -..... The Lenovo A60 doesn't or I couldn't see how to select my own ringtone other than the ones listed - that was a bit of a surprise to me
simply create this folder structure on your SD card - media/audio/ringtones - here you can add all your files which you want to use as ringtones (mp3, ogg), also subfolder ../notifications - for notifications, and ../alarms for alarms - that goes for all android phones.

Power button - yes this is a sad location but i think you will soon get used to it.

Here's some of my favourite apps:
  • Go Contacts EX because I think it integrates better with the google contact groups
  • Business Calendar Free for my calendars (Google Agenda + exchange calendar)
  • JuiceDefender to save battery life. Battery life is indeed max 1 day without charging, so I bought few extra usb cables so I can easily charge the phone at work, home or in my car
  • Go Keyboard to type text. Seems like the best sliding keyboard around, saves me a lot of time!

I do have trouble adding my facebook and skype account in android account sync settings. When I try to add them, they just return to the accounts screen and nothing happens. Did you succeed in adding them?

That keyboard has a nice design.. but it fails to launch in terminal apps on the v350. May be a v350 defect, but I did find a keyboard that works in the app "terminal emulator".

Hi everybody,
I'm reading this thread since june: I was waiting for the wonderful VS350 but it seems to be a flop.

As time goes by, I'm now thinking to buy the FET T8888, BUT I've some doubts I'd like to clarify before buying it:
1) I know ZERO about android, I'm not a geek and don't wanna compile a single line of code. Is an android mobile ok for "normal" people ???
2) What is the BEST (finest) video resolution for this phone ?
3) Can it produce HD video ? If yes please specify (i.e. 1080x720i 30 fps or something else).

I'using a dual sim since 3 years, I have 2 GSM sim (no 3G needed but nice to have), and this phone seems to me the best choice available now, BUT I don't wanna get mad, crazy with android / linux problems: thus again my main big question: are android phones usable by "normal" guys ?

ThanX in advance to anyone who answers me, and congratulation to this wonderful forum community.

Ciao

I don't use facebook, but I just downloaded skype to test the setting for you. You shouldn't put your skype account in the android account settings, but in the Skype app. It remembers your setting and you can sync with the app.

Hi, I ordered T8888 yesterday - hope everything will be OK , for me android is intuitive and easy to understand as i tried it few times when playing with some friend`s android mobiles and tablets. I have now WM 6.5 and android is winner for me.

Best Dual Sim out there is Motorola XT882 with dual core processor. Good luck finding a store that sells this online besides Motorola China which wont take orders from overseas.

Just got an email from computeruniverse, with the status of my order:

ViewSonic V350 Dual SIM Android
Austausch fr Rcksendung (Kulanz)
aus Lieferung XXXXXX
(RMA XXXXX-XXXXXXXX)

Product not available at the moment. The product will be ordered for you. Unfortunately shipping date not yet known.

Price: 0,00

So it seems like I'm getting a new one: "Exchange for returning (goodwill)".

The only question is when...

Default Lenovo A60 review

I've been waiting for the V350, but after some poor reviews in this thread I looked on and spotted the A60 on the wiki. I ordered it a few days ago from rockstoreonline.eu. Being dutch myself I thought it would be easier to communicate with a dutch seller and to return the product if necessary. They also deliver the phone rooted with complete android market and dutch language and keyboard installed like etotalk does, so I'm very happy with that. Too bad etotalk is €80 cheaper shipping to europe (without import tax) due to the cheap dollar, but oh well...

I'll let you know my experiences when I recieve the phone!
Hey guys,

Sorry it took this long, but I've playing around with my Lenvo A60 for about a week and a half now. Overall I think it could really be a great phone, but the guys of rockstoreonline put a custom rom on it that has a few flaws. However, I've been keeping in touch with them and I'm quite satisfied about their after care service. They told me they're working on a new image that they will also distribute to customers that have already bought the phone, but it might take a couple of weeks.

Alright... first the bad things...
  • There's one flaw that's really a pain. It's happened a few times that the #1 sim just won't call for a couple of hours. It just aborts before the phone even rings on the other end. I can send texts with that sim and recieve calls on that sim, but calls it aborts. Even with all data connections turned off. I think this might be a hardware problem, but I'll let the guys at rockstore figure it out first. Switching sims seemed to fix the problem, but then I don't have 3G on my sim with data subscription.
  • Another flaw was that the standard android agenda was missing. I tried to make that up by downloading another agenda app, but that app seems to use certain functionalities of the standard app. For instance, I didn't get any alerts before an event, just an empty notification saying "(no subject)". The guys at rockstore mailed me a file called calendar.apk that I was able to install and now it's ok.
  • The dutch dictionary doesn't work and the Multiling app that should support this somehow refuses to enter capital letters.
  • The numbers of some people calling me aren't recognized, even though I have them stored one of my sims. Most people's numbers are reconized though... weird...

Like I said though, overall it could be a really great phone (which is why I'll keep it for now and see what rockstore can fix)
  • The screen is beyond my expectations. Very clear and very responsive.
  • The performace is all I could wish for. Haven't had a single hickup.
  • Android 2.3.3 works really great.
  • The battery in my experience lasts for about 1,5 day, but this is with wifi, bluetooth, 3G and auto-rotation all on, and auto-syncing whatsapp, google calandar and hotmail (pushmail).

Not ripping it to pieces, but there are a number of things I am amazed these flaws have slipped through....

Ringtones - same ringtone for both sims it seems, I have had quite a few dual sim chinafone's and nigh on all let me use different ringtones to notify if say a work sim or social sim was ringing. Also most allow me to select my own ringtone from SD card or mp3 track - The Lenovo A60 doesn't or I couldn't see how to select my own ringtone other than the ones listed - that was a bit of a surprise to me
This is a missed opportunity I agree, but you can assign ringtones to individual contacts. There's also an app called Group Ringtones to assign ringtones to groups.

There's a setting under Accessibillty that lets you end calls with the power button.

Default Gsmart G1345 has problem with microSD card

Sales of Gigabyte Gsmart G1345 have began in Russia and Ukraine. First reviews are positive in common but owners report that device randomly loses and finds microSD card (Russian forum: http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=273933&st=40 and Ukranian forum: http://gigabytecm.com.ua/forum/yaf_postsm787_probliema-s-1345.aspx#post787#post787)

I have been using the G1345 for 1,5 week now. Got the phone sent to Norway from speedshop.hu in Hungary. Paid over paypal and received one week after payment. Very well done by the folks in speedshop.hu!!

So far I'm satisfied with the phone. Have never used an Android/touch/smartphone before so I have nothing to compare else than my old Samsung C5212 (wich also is dual sim).

Cons:
- Dual sim standby - when calling on Sim1, sim2 goes unavailable/calls forwarded to voicemail
- After making a call with eg. sim 1, it takes a minute or two before sim 2 becomes available
- Looses connection to wifi sometimes if I set the phone in standby and rapidly turns it on again. Then it need some time to connect or I can go into the settings and turn wifi on/off.
- Only english and some languages from eastern europe. No problem to me, but might be an issue to someone?

Pros:
- As mentioned I've never used android/touch/smartphone before and can't compare to other phones, but I feel the phone works fast
- Runs it Android 2.3.4 easy - no hangups so long
- With my old Samsung I need to change active sim with a button on the side of the phone. If I would like to call back to someone in the call-log, I always needed to check wich sim they called on. Here on the G1345 the phone always calls back on the sim in wich received the call
- Android market works great! The phone runs all I've downloaded so far!
- Connects seemless to my Pioneer Avic caraudio/handsfree
- Battery life is about 1.5 days with bluetooth/wifi/HDSPA/GPS turned on. After what I've read about other androids this is about what I can espect.

After all I'm very satisfied that I cancelled my order for the V350, wich I had waited over 2 months for, and then finaly ordered this G1345. The specs is better and it comes from a company that have made android dualsims before.
So far, so good.

After reading some bad reviews about the V350, I cancelled my order to be safe.
I have been reading some good things about the FET T8888.
Does somebody have some more things to share about this phone? Good and bad. :-)

@RealBirkoff: How did you install the custom ROM? Didn't you lose the dual-sim features? I have only experience with Windows Mobiel 6.1 custom Roms (Dx900) but i would love to know how you did that on your T8888.

Here are my experiences with the t8888:
I bought it 2 Months ago ...

PRO:
- Dual-SIM works like it should (mentioned in the other posts)
- Display is great for my requirements
- CPU is not to slow, i have sometimes a little delay, but its not to bad
- RAM is enough for all the applications I have tried

CONS:
- Battery realy sucks! My Usage (3G on, BT/WLAN/GPS off, 2-5 short calls a day ~15min, a little browsing (15min) and outlook/exchange/gmail sync). maybe 18h, not more! Even if i disable sync and enable/disable 3G manually i have not more than 24h! And even in flight mode!!! not more than 30h! (i know some people who habe 5 Days in flight mode with their HTC Android phones). I have tried JuiceDefender but with nearly no effect
- compass calibration don't work, i have a failure of 90 ... sucks at geocaching!
- battery indicator sometimes lies. the phone sometimes goes off at about 35%
- battery charging is really slow. When its empty often a night is not enough to charge it to 100%! In Navigation Mode in my car or in usb tethering mode it don't charge, it stays on its level :/ AND in WIFI Accesspoint-Mode it looses more energy than the charger can supply!
- when battery is empty and the phone shuts down automatically then its not possible to turn it on when its charging. you have to turn it on in battery mode. maybe you say thats not a problem ... but you can't really charge it when it's off! then its vibrating every 10 seconds an the display goes on and shows a charging screen (in this mode its charging extremely slow. I have never tried to charge it more than the level which is needed to turn it on. My old DX900 was charging to 100% in less then 2h when it is off, now you need this time to get the t8888 to a level in which its possible to turn it on!).
- Sometimes i have to reboot the phone because the phone can't get an GPS signal. But that issue is rarely

Conclusion: The Phone has many big battery issues! If I can't fix them I will try the XT531...

The Phone is usable if you can at minimum charge it every night or at work all the time.

Now I'm hoping the custom ROM from RealBirkoff can fix some battery issues.

Hi, bad news for me regarding battery life, I will see how is battery working, looking fourward to grab T8888 in my hands , hope battery life will be better as drsnuggles wrote down few days ago (1 day is OK for me in heavy mode), nice question for RealBirkoff, would be nice to hear some ROM hints...

G1345 is gaining points during the time, I will let you know my experiences with T8888 when I get it.

Please, 1 question, what is max resolution of T8888 video, I am curious . Thanx.

I only tried the installed camera app with the main (back) camera: 352 x 288 @ 15fps; H264/AVC 360 kbps ... looks very poor, sorry. Maybe other apps can do it better?
I usually don't use the camera, so that point isn't important to me

Regarding the battery on the T8888 I noticed something interesting using the app Battery Monitor.

There seems to be an internal Android process which doesn't allow the phone to enter sleep mode: it will run 100% of the time. This drains the battery at an enormous rate: in will be empty in a few hours and charging goes slow because of the huge consumption of energy. The phone is also less responsive. If you restart the phone, it could be ok for days. And the battery seems to last forever.

So whenever I notice the phone is running 100% of the time again, I restart the phone. However, I couldn't find out what this internal energy waisting process is. All analysers I used blame an it to be inside the android system, not an external app. It could be an issue of the phone's hardware, but I'm thinking of something that's wrong in the software. 3G, GPS, Bluetooth and Wifi is all controlled in energy saving mode by the app "tasker".

Maybe it's an Android bug? Or a T8888 specific software bug? A restart solves my problems. Edit: a system app used for developing software is the cause of the problem. Read my post of 24 october for the solution (uninstalling it with Root Uninstall).

Doubt it from what I am reading, this and the 3G settings killed it for me.
2G Network CDMA 800 - SIM 1
GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 2
3G Network CDMA2000 1xEV-DO

I went after the XT531 Dual Sim though, shoppingnirvana.com reckon the one they have in stock is a dual sim not the single sim version. Placed an order and waiting to see if this is the case hopefully.

I'd like to dispel the perception of the V350. I've had it for a week now and it has been fine for me. Nothing that makes it stand out from other dual sim phones and for the price, it is a little bit high when you can get something like the FET,

BUT

with Viewsonic, you have a wider distribution channel and a company that will support the phone. (also 512 MB RAM). With that comes mods, custom Androids and Viewsonic have said that expect Gingerbread in November.

Has anyone looked at any of the following phones? I'm in the market for a dual sim Android, but being in Europe I need to stick in 2x GSM SIM's, not WCDMA. I would be very interested to hear other opinions on these as I'm torn between the 3 of them:

HDC A9100

HD7 T9292

HDC A9299

(Sorry i can't post links as a noob, but Google will take you straight to them)

All claim to be dual core (MTK6573), 512ROM/512RAM with TF to 32Gb, 4.3" 480x800 capacitive screens, dual sim dual standby, 5MP&0.3MP camera's, so on the surface appear to be higher spec than the ones discussed here previously (I'm been keeping an eye on this forum for a while in my search for the right phone!).

At the moment the A9100 is winning...

I did find a site that covered this in the customer questions section & the answer was yes. If you are using Data/3g in Sim 1 & receive a call on Sim 2 or Sim1, the call comes through fine but the data cuts off for the duration of the call. If you are on a call on either Sim, and a call comes through on the other one it will go straight to voicemail, you can't flip between calls.

Unless anyone has any horror stories I think I've decided on the A9100, as it would seam you can ditch the battery & replace it with an original Galaxy S2 battery for a much better battery life. I've only found one mention of this so far so am still trying to confirm this...

It seems that the A9100 also has the best screen size to phone size ratio, and I think the nicest design. As the internals seem the same on them all, I guess choosing really is just a case of going with the external design you like the most.

I agree totally ! I am using it for a month now.
I only have this horizontal line (defect) in my screen now. Viewsonic allready offers me to replace the V350 for a new one, but i am waiting for the phone to come on stock week 44.
Also the v350 reboots once every day..(??) is this some sort of a software bug ??
Further I have no complaints and the device is working just as it is supposed to!

I really don't know what to buy anymore.
Every time I find a phone with good specs/price, I read lot's of bad things about it.
I'm in doubt between a few of the "Azian" branded phones like te FET T8888 or other ones on Etotalk or lightinthebox.
Does anybody want to share experiences with those types of phones please?

Hi!
It seems you find Gigabyte GSmart G1310 the best dual sim (2xSMS) android smartphone, but in Brazil is imposible to buy one.
I really really really wanted a dual sim android smartphone! Do you know other option a can buy from Brazil? I've already searched for Motorola, LG and Sansung without results.
Thank you!
