Update for the T8888 users who want to upgrade the battery life:
On your phone is an app called "测讯工具". This is a Chinese development tool for calibrating and testing your phone. However, on my phone it drained the battery by not letting the cpu sleep. You can confirm this by checking *#*#4636#*#* -> battery history -> partial wake usage
If this is the case on your phone:
-Tryout the secret test mode by dialing *#*#2272#*#*, or some of the other codes: 1, 4248, 4227, 8041.
-Remove the bloody app: install Root Uninstall. Now with Root Uninstall, make a backup of the Chinese app and uninstall it forever.
And presto: no more empty batteries without a good reason .
I read on Internet that if you put the 2G on the SIM1 the phone get a bug and you can't change again to 3G.
¿Someone can confirm that or maybe the last update rom fix the problem?
How many people have the phone, ¿did you recommend the phone?
It’s true. I have the same problem, reset to factory settings does not help…
Besides, the phone resets for no reason several times a day, the battery life is very poor (less than 1 day without 3G, WiFi, GPS etc.), there are serious problems with battery level indicator and and battery charger.
I am very disappointed, perhaps I will return the phone to the seller.

¿There isn't any rom update?

I think I see rom update to the 1345 or maybe this updates not resolv anything
Hello, everybody....i have been using my Lenovo A60 from etowalk.com and i am pretty happy with the overall performance. The only thing that does not work is GPS. I asked etotalk about this problem and they asked me to download new ROM from a site. I downloaded all the necessary things from it but the update process is not working according to the instructions they sent. I want to know if anyone updated to a newer ROM for fixing GPS issue ? want to know the correct process to update
Now I have FET T8888 in my hands. My first impressions are:
- max video resolution 352x288, quality is poor
- photos are quite nice in 5MP, i shot my LCD screen in poor light, it is well readable
- everything is smooth by now
- display is gr8 as was mentioned above
- for 259$ + 20% VAT it is cool!!

Sounds good! What firmware version do you have? You can check it with settings -> about phone -> build number.

Hi Cha,
What site did they send you to for that new ROM?
I bouth my Lenovo A60 from a different vendor, probably with a different ROM, but I'll let you know if my GPS works. I haven't checked it yet.
Did you have any problems with calling, language support, or a missing calendar app on your Lenovo?

Hi, I have build number FRG83G, now I am tackling with battery life too , I let some synchros on during night, I switched off some synchronizations this morning and I will see, I try some advices mentioned here, may be there is more general forum about energy saving in Android 2.2.2.
Hi, I do not have root privileges on T8888 for uninstallling "测讯工具", can you help? Sorry I am quite new in android .

Hi Goek,
Do you still have the problems that you descibe above (and also described earlier) with your A60 or are they solved now? What about the language support problem; does this concern the menu language or entry language (keybord)?
What do you think: should I buy it or not? I'm still hesitating...

There asked me to download 4 files.
I did not have any problem with calling, internet, wifi, Market, etc....all things work properly except GPS

For sure. What you need is to upgrade the software with a modified ROM which gives you Root rights. This will come in handy anyway. The latest modified ROM is 1.08. You said you have version "FRG83G". I don't know this version number. Do you currently find version 1.08 somewhere in the "settings -> about phone" menu? Or do you have a never version already?
What you need to modify the ROM is:
-A new ROM, and the QPST software. Register at that forum to see pictures of the QPST software.
-step-by-step tutorial and the drivers within this tutorial
-At least 2 hours to do everything.
Send me a message if you get stuck. It is quite easy if you have done it once. If it gets to complicated, you can downgrade to version 1.07 of the FET ROM. Just put update.zip on your SDcard, reboot into recovery mode and load the update.zip. The only thing is that I don't know for sure if 1.07 doesn't have the Chinese testing app. I would recommend to Root your phone, you can run a lot more powerfull apps on a rooted phone.

Hello all,
I have been reading this interesting thread since I am looking for a dual sim phone like most of you. I ran into the fundamental discussion on the chipsets used for the phones. On one site, there is the qualcom MSM7227 and the MSM7227-1 turbo (as in the XT531 and G1345). On the other side there is the mediatek MT6573 (650MHz) sets. This guy called Bruno Martins has a forum for the G11i pro where he also publishes new ROMS. This one runs on MT6573. He shows this is quite faster then the MSM7227 (600MHz) as in HD958/T8888. Spefically, the 3D graphics is much better in the G11i. The XT531 with the enhanced turbo and the G1345 come up clearly better.
However, there is one remark made in the review by Bruno: it seems that when using data connection on SIM1 reverts calls to SIM2 to voicemail. Can someone confirm, and can I see that as a major advantage for the qualcom chipsets?
Any thought is welcome

Hello all,
However, there is one remark made in the review by Bruno: it seems that is one of the 2 SIMS is connected to data, both SIMS are not reacheable for calls. Can someone confirm, and is this a major advantage for the qualcom chipsets?

In this thread is mentioned that the Viewsonic V350 with MSM7227 chipset has the same flaw. The T8888 has the same chipset but does not have this specific flaw. But it could be turned off by viewsonic or something. The chipset supports dual standby while using a data connection.

Do you know what the flaw is: if SIM1 is on data, then SIM2 cannot be called for voice. But what about calls to SIM1? Are they possible?

I have to make an appointment, if the sim1 is using the 2G data for a long time, maybe if you want using the browser with 2g connection, the sim2 coverage is off.
Only the 3G or H connection don't get off the coverage from the sim2 when we are using data connection.
Thats on my G1317D and I gues it will be the same on the G1305, G1310 and G1345.
At etotalk T8888 is refered to as an Android 2.3 phone. From the eten-users forms I understand it is still 2.2. Can anyone confirm which system it really is?
well there is a phone yug slimmest...I live in india and it is available here bt mayb u can get it 2.....try finding it on google..u can buy it through TVC Skyshop..it is a fairly gud phn for the price

@ cha_indian,
I am exitzed to read your post, you are the first person not having problem with the android market after downloading a and istalling new ROM - at least from my humble researches. Stupid but important question: do you have the Android market running with commercail programs - i.e. program that are not for free. Did you ever try to synchronize you Lenovo A60 wvia the USB port (eg. Calender, contacts) with Outlook or something similar. If you did. What program did you use?
Hoping for more positive news from your side.

I asked twice directly to Motorola Customer Care, pretending to be an Indian (phone will be available only in Asia)

No chub you got it wrong! etowalk has asked me to install the new ROM that they claim has a working GPS. As of now the GPS does not work. I am sorry i did not use calander, etc.. I am still exploring the phone.
guys,
been following this thread for quite some time, i guess everyone here are as frustrated as I am about the lack of options out there.
I ve basically narrowed it down to two most probable candidates:
Motorola Spice Key XT317
Motorola XT531
The sad thing is, there doesnot seem to be info regarding availability of either phone. I know chinese and i cant even find info about the dual sim version of XT531 from chinese websites.
personally i m particularly interested in the XT317 as I ve been looking for a andriod dual sim GSM with physical keyboard for a long time.
Does anyone have any updated info regarding either of these two?
Do you know what the flaw is: if SIM1 is on data, then SIM2 cannot be called for voice. But what about calls to SIM1? Are they possible?

See you
That is also the same on the V350.
It seems to be a problem only when using the GSM/2G connection. If I get a large MMS from someone on SIM2 and it takes a long time to download that, then SIM1 will be disabled after a little while.
on first use the battery life seemed to be very poor but after a making sure it have a full charge and turning off some of the toys like gps now get more than a full days use from the battery and was lucky enough to get a spare battery in with my deal as well.
One tip is that the charger connector is the same as a samsung ct3300 with is also the same as some Motorola phones

Update about the T8888. It starts to have stability issues . Flashed a new ROM on the phone and it is ok now, but it still crashes sometimes (once every two days or so).
i'll receive it after 7 days, then i'll share my experiences

Sound good! Would be nice to know how stable it is, how the battery behaves, how good the speakers and microphone are and if 256MB is enough.

Thanx!
I think you could buy it. The guys from rockstoreonline have been very helpful in getting everything to work and they sell it with a 1 year guarantee, so I'm sure I could return the phone if I wanted to. Besides... I don't think there is a phone that's any better than the A60. Maybe the G1345 or the T8888, but they have their problems as well...
As of now my calendar problem and my language support problem are fixed. Keyboard and dictionary work perfectly in dutch. The OS still has alot of english in it, but that's ok for me.
I still have that calling problem sometimes. I've ordered a new sim from my provider, but that didn't fix the problem. It's not a known problem though, so I think it's a hardware problem for just my phone. I told them now that I'd like a new phone when they have that new image available if they haven't fixed the problem by then.

I haven't checked my GPS yet... sorry. Good to know not all A60's have the same problems as I have though... thanks!

Motorola have had dual sim androids on the market for a while, but they have been really expensive. I know of a seller that sells the XT800+ for €489. That is wayyy overpriced as far as I'm concerned.

Which dual sim ACTIVE phones do you recommend?
This is the most important feature for me, when I am talking on SIM 1 I need to still receive calls on SIM 2.

My Lenovo A60 has a perfectly working android market as well. The key is to buy one with a custom ROM. Etotalk sells A60's with custom ROM. I bought mine at rockstoreonline.eu.
I haven't done syncs over USB, but I sync my calandar, tasks and contacts with gmail and it works great. You can then install this little program on your desktop to sync gmail with outlook... no usb required!

it seems very stable Ive had one occasion that unlock would not slide turned the screen off and back on and then it worked
as for battery when I first got it only got 6 hours from it
but then noticed the screen was not timing out set timeout to 15 seconds reduced bightness to half ( which is still bright enough to see under any light ) the gave quite a good saving but the biggest drain on battery seemed to be the GPS turned that off and after a full days normal use the battery is still at 50% when going to bed. so really happy with it now
not sure if this is real but also seems to charge better on the samsung charger rather than the one that came with it
phone speaker and mic quality is good but sounds tinny when playing a avi
also have access to the market out of the box

When the phone (again) is not available i will not be sending it back untill it is !
If I do, i am afraid it will take months to be replaced like the last time...
It is working, the line is just not a pretty sight...
I first wait what viewsonic Netherlands will advise..

That's because I only sent in the phone with the battery, without all the rest. So I'm not sure if I will receive a brand new phone or just my old one that got repaired.
according to the link it seems there is a dual SIM version for Asia. But then it will be hard to distinguish between dual and single SIM versions, as for the XT531. Although according to pdadb.net, the dual SIM XT531 is now called XT530.

thank for the info on the market. Do you use commercial apps with the market. Those ROM I am aware of do work with the android market but only with apps that are for free :-(

Can you post the link? I didn't see one in vistv's post. As for the XT530/531, from the thread in XDA, the XT530 is the single SIM version and the XT531 is the dual SIM.

Boys, what about this? LG P698 DualSim version phone, spec are quite good. Only problem is, that it looks like that it´s not for EU market. Brazil or China only. Well, let´s move all to Asia and say goodbye to EU monopols and cartels
