Hi guys,

I was wandering if you have any experience with Jiayu phones. This one looks promising (you might be interested) and I can't wait for the official release and first real users opinions:

The description on one of the seller's page: Per-order JIAYU G3 MTK6577 Android4.0 4.5'HD 1280x720 IPS Corning gorilla 1G RAM - China Mobile Phones

MTK6577, 4.5" IPS 1280720, Gorilla Glass, 4GB ROM + 1GB RAM...
However the battery capacity seems to be... unbelievable.

Jiayu G2 seemed to be quite OK from what I saw when googling for info.

Default Blu Vivo 4.3

Blu Vivo 4.3 seems to be available in the USA: BLU VIVO 4.3 Android Smartphone (Unlocked) #2-BLU-D910A-Q-BLA-01 - Expansys USA

with superamoled and MT6577

the version is D910A, the other one will be D910 (or D910i as gsmarena notes)

HSDPA 900 / 2100 - D910i
HSDPA 850 / 1900 - D910a

What is the impact of these bands for both phones when using in Europe?

ed: found it in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
D910i is for Europe, Asia, D910a for the Americas.

Hallo, I'm intrested in one of these phones, all with MT6577 and 1gb of RAM:

Zopo ZP300+ (300$, 4.5", 1800mAh)
Huawei U8836D (260$, 4.3", 1930mAh, gorilla glass)
Zte V970 (200$, 4.3", 1600mAh, no front cam)
Newman N1 (190$, 4.3", 1700mAh, gorilla glass)

What is the best choice?
One vendor site who has all of them, recommends V970 over the N1, but the latter has a more powerful battery, two cams and, above all, gorilla glass.
Does someone have tryied them??

Thanks and... sorry for my English!!

In italy is gone in most of the country since 2010, and completely since july 2012.

Most part of the old channels is used for DVB-T channels, but some of the spectrum will be used for 3/4G over 800/900MHz.

I believe is the same in most of the western countries.

I saw a fake iPhone 4 a few weeks ago, with a pull-out telescopic antenna, just like you'd find on an FM radio....I thought like WTF!! ...of course there is absolutely nothing for it to receive.

I've already broken the glass of my V970.

Etotalk told me that the glass is not available from the manufacturer.

Do you know where to buy a new glass?

Thank you.

A ZTE V970?

Chinese repairer probably. Unlikely that anyone outside of the PRC will have spares for this phone.

ZTE will probably repair it for you in China, although the cost is likely to be prohibitive. However I'm sure they won't supply spares to consumers.

I have a smartphone F605 (chinese mobile), and i'm truly happy with it. I've bought in a portuguese online store, named Brigtek.

A few days ago I bought a Lenovo P700i for 1400RMB from China Mobile. This is a 4inch screen Android ICS 4.0 phone with dual-core CPU. Feels very solid and well constructed, better than the Galaxy S I had. Very smooth and responsive, not laggy. Battery life is really good for an Android phone, goes for two whole days without charging. Has a 2500mA/h battery as standard. The Galaxy S with its 1500mA/h battery, could only manage one day without charging it. It's only got 4GB internal storage, but that's not a problem as I've put a 32GB micro-SD card in it. Also it doesn't have Google Play, but then that's not too clever in China anyway, free apps only. It syncs with Google just fine though, for contacts, email and calendar. No redundant analogue TV or anything silly like that. However it does have an FM transmitter as well as normal FM radio, so I can hear my phone calls and music on any convenient radio LOL.

Lenovo is a reputable manufacturer of quality phones, unlike many of these Chinese dual-SIM devices. However they don't normally sell phones outside of China, and the P700i is officially only sold in China.

It was the screen itself that broke on the Galaxy, not the front glass, had great big crack in it. Don't quite know how it happened, it was in my pocket, pulled it out and noticed that the screen was busted. I didn't drop it or anything. I was quoted 1600RMB to repair the Samsung, but that was more than what the Lenovo cost, so definitely not worth it.

Here's a screen-shot of a couple of the home-screen widgets.

..it's getting cold at nights now.

The thing is, it's probably NOT okay. Most of these un-branded cheapo phones are nothing short of garbage. I see them all the time, every cheapo tech store in town has them. BTW I live in China.

€250 is a heck of a lot of money for that thing. 144MB memory, 650Mhz CPU, as well as the rather pointless analogue TV, don't even know who made this phone, but it's more than likely some fly-by night Shenzhen tech shop that does fake iPhones as well. This sort of very basic Android dual-SIM now sells here in China for around €50-€100, and they can be rather crappy as well. Non of these phones have Google Play either, if that's important to you. Will more than likely have a Chinese app store, and be pre-loaded with Chinese apps.

IMO like buying something that looks like Ferrari but only has the guts of a Yugo, but you're paying the Ferrari price for it. If one is going to pay a significant amount of money for a Chinese dual-SIM Android, at least get a quality one from a recognised reputable manufacturer like Huawei, Changhong, ZTE or Lenovo. Another thing, there's even counterfeits of famous Chinese brands now. Chinese faking Chinese, so that's something else to beware of.

No I don't dislike it, I grew up with analogue TV. However OTA analague TV is all but dead and obsolete now. Most countries in Europe have already gone to digital TV, and the last few contries European seem to be turning off OTA analogue TV this year and next year. The USA completely shut down analogue TV a couple of years ago in favour of digital. Whatever countries that still have analogue TV, well it will probably be shut off sooner or later.

Those dual-SIM phones with the analogue TV feature are Chinese, intended to be sold and used China. There's no OTA analogue TV where I live, it was turned off 3 years ago. We've got a digital TV system now that's actually intended for mobile reception, China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting (CMMB). Non of these phones can receive it. That's why I see it as a useless gimmick.

From experience of trying to use things like Sony Watchmans and Casio pocket TVs in the past, reception on a hand held device with a telescopic antenna was often not good anyway.

Hi,
yesterday I recieved Huawei G500 pro, but something went wrong and I am not able to boot the phone, I have access to factory mode, to recovery mode, but nothing helps. If somebody has the same phone, please could you somehow make a backup of firmware for me, so I can restore it into my phone? Otherwise I have a nice piece of paper weight :-/ Thank you very much.

It should do, no guarantee though. However my Lenovo does Skype video calls OK.

Don't know if the pictures are accurate, but this ZTE seems to be full of China Unicom branding and apps. Which is something that Unicom often does with their phones. This might be a concern though if your carrier isn't China Unicom...
unicom.JPG
...looks like it has carrier specific software.

Also this is a Chinese wholesaler, so it's caveat emptor.

That CPU should support Skype video just fine. However depending where you get your Skype from, video might be disabled. Microsoft for some reason seem to have chosen to disable video, except on certain select phones. The official Skype I got from Skype.com didn't have video calls on my Galaxy S, but a hacked version I aquired from a friend did video calls OK on the Samsung. I'm currently using Skype I got from the Lenovo app store, on my current phone, and that does video calls.

I was referring to the "UNI_CN_" in the Version Number/版本号, which I assume stands for China Unicom/中国联通. It might have software load that's customised for that carrier.

BTW are you in China, like me?

It would be insane to pay 250 EUR for that phone - you can get Huawei U8836D for less that that, and will get a far better phone by a quality brand...

BTW I had that phone. Bought if for about 150$ when it came out, it worked fine for about one week, then the microphone stopped working...

It really lasted that long did it? That sounds about right though.

I'm always suspicious of Taobao, there's a lot of counterfeits* on there. And counterfeit ZTE phones definately do exist. This phone seems to have China Unicom branding on it, would it be locked to that carrier? And probably loaded up with Unicom specific apps, that possibly can't be removed without rooting or changing the ROM completely.

Myself, I use China Mobile.

* Never buy Levi 501 jeans from Taobao.

Try asking over here: [ROM] Huawei U8836D G500 Pro (MT6577) custom ROMs - xda-developers

And maybe also descibe a little more about what went wrong. Did you spill coffee on it, or did you try to flash new software...

I have good experiences with etotalk.com and hotmid.com. Bad experiences with fastcardtech.com

Remember to ALWAYS use Paypal. They have gotten me back $500+ from bad sellers.

Hi, nothing like this, I took the phone out of the box, powered on and phone stayed in loop at booting animation. I hope, that it will be only SW problem (factory and recovery mode is working), so I am waiting for some ROM to flash. Huawei did not release the official firmware yet. I subscribed already the thread and waiting impatiently :-).

I receive Newman N1 today from newandroidsale.com. 200 $ and free shipping to Denmark :-). First impression is very good. My ZTE U960 is not even close to N1. It's seem to be very faster than U960 and it's more handy. I get back with more information in this weekend.

How would you say the GPS performs? How many satellites is used and how fast do you get a lock on a cold start?

What version of the firmware are you on (1.0.7?)

I have a question about some of these Chinese dual sim phones. I was wondering, which one's have the best software for managing the SIM cards.

I download GPS Status from Play butik. When i turn on the N1 and start GPS Status it find 4 satelite in about 1 minut.
Android 4.0.4, Baseband Version N1B01, Kernel version 3.0.13, Build number N1V1.0.5, Custom build version 20120815.194132
Another thing: The WIFI is much more stabile than U960. When i put my to simm in the N1 i should not do any thing about management. Data and everything worked.

But i have one problem. It seems that the Newman N1 is not rooted. So i can't get rid of all the chinese apps on the phone. Any idea???

All MediaTek phones have the exact same dual SIM settings. For Qualcomm based dual sim's it varies from phone to phone.

I also received the Newman N1 here in Belgium (from etotalk, very fast shipping): nice smartphone, nice rom and in french ;-). The phone is very good, good screen, very fast mobile.
Negative points: poor camera in dark, cannot install some belgian applications (grrr chinese phone)

UPDATE about Newman N1. There is a problem with my N1. When I install apps it install them at the internal memory. It can't install at the SD card. Some others have this problem ane some don't have any problems. I think it's the rom there is the problem. My is version 1.05 and my N1 is not rooted. So I an waiting for at custom rom.

Thats is my only problem (is a big problem). But beside of that I am very happy for my Newman N1.

Just ask if anyone have questions.

Default Newman N1 Update

The Newman is just perfect. Now i have flashed N1 with rom ver. 1.0.7 and rooted N1 also :-).

I have modified the file vold.fstab and now there is no problem with memory. N1 see SD-card as Phone storage :-)

The Newman N1 works PERFECT.
