Default Overclocking this thing

The Devour has been rooted for quite a while now. Has anyone figured out how to overclock it yet? I've done Google searches but nothing comes up. Do we really need a custom kernel to make higher settings work?

I've tried several overclocking apps, SetCPU being obviously the best, but no matter which app I run the 600MHz barrier can't be breached it seems. If everything hinges on getting a hacked update.zip then unless someone can figure that out I think we're boned. It's sad, the only promising thread for a Devour update.zip apparently died months ago.

This phone practically needs to run faster. Have you tried playing Angry Birds? It's almost painful. Let's get this thing running at a better speed.

there is one way to overclock it manually and with shell comands but it is extremely risky and can literally lead to your battery over heating and exploding. But I am currently attempting to find the standard Settings this phone works on and edit them little by little. I'll post a guide soon.

Please, by all means, if you figure something out then post it. As with anything, there is a chance of hardware failure, I understand this. I'd just sure love to have this phone working harder.

I just got this phone from a friend. I have my Droid2 which is my main phone but I decided to take her Devour and use it as a developer hobby. I'm not very savvy at advanced Android customizations, but as I come up with stuff I'll share it.

I've acquired root, using Universal Androot, now I'm hoping to implement a ROM. Has anyone done this?

As far as I know, nobody has rommed the Devour. It's a damn shame too, because all the bloat and crashing can't be bypassed that way.

A poster had mentioned they had gotten SmokedGlass (6.0) working on their Devour, I'd be VERY intrigued to hear from them if they were still around.
