Default Just rooted, but now..?

Hey guys. I have a simple question for you all.

For a while, I was holding off on updating my Droid 2 from version 2.2 to 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) because it could make my wifi tethering (an invaluable feature to me) application stop working, as it only worked on Android OS 2.2. However, now I've rooted my Droid, and no longer need to use this method as I can simply tether my wifi via a root application. And I'd really like to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, since the update notification keeps popping up, and it's starting to get kind of annoying.

So here's my question. If I update to Ice Cream Sandwich, will I lose root access? If I will, is there any possible way to stop the update notifications from pestering me to upgrade every 12 hours, or to regain root after updating?

All help on the subject would be appreciated.

Ice Cream Sandwich is Android 4.0. Our update is only to 2.3.3 known as Gingerbread.

Point taken. However, my question has not yet been answered. If I update, will I lose root access? If so, can I regain it afterwards?

Lets start with this, the update notification you're getting is for Android 2.3.3 - Gingerbread. Not Android 4.0 - Ice Cream Sandwich. ICS hasn't been released and very doubtful that Motorola and Verizon will release it for the D2s.

Since you rooted before the OTA (over the air) update, you may run into problems after the update with the root that will require you to reroot. Might have to go all the way back to stock first (you hear people mention SBF, that's going back to stock,) then update to gingerbread OTA, then reroot. Then you could add a tether app. Lots of hoops to jump through but it is possible. It does come with some risk so make sure you're educating yourself instead of following just any guide.

If there is an ICS option for the D2s, it will be unofficial and you'd need root for sure just to install it. Soonest would be early next year if my guess is correct.

So, okay. What you're telling me is if I update to 2.3.3, I will probably have to reroot. Yes?
