chadzor,

No worries and thanks to biggiesmalls657, he was spot-on!

OTA = over-the-air (as in over-the-air update the VZW sends-out for new updates to Android).

Are you running Gingerbread (Android verison 2.3) on your phone? (check with Settings -> About phone -> Android version (hopefully, 2.3.x).

If so, then Z4root and Gingerbreak won't work on your phone (they never got the offsets figured-out for Gingerbreak for the Motorola devices).

You'll need to use the Droid 3 root method (the adb exploit discovered by Dan J. Rosenberg (djrbliss)) that he figured-out would work on pretty-much any recent Motorola phone.

So, Pete Souza's 1-click tool should work for you: Pete's Motorola Root Tools

Good luck and hopefully that will do the trick for you (I'm not a Droid 2 guy, so hopefully others will chime-in like biggiesmalls657 if you run into trouble).

Cheers!

Just covering all the bases:
Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on your device. This should be under Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging.

And make sure you're in "Charge Only." It doesn't mention that in all the guides.

If you go to the notification bar with the phone plugged into the computer, it will say phone in USB Mode. Tap that and should give you the option for charge only.

I'm right there with you chadzor, bought my D2G about a week ago and didn't get a working set up till last night because what I would try wouldn't work always and have to start over or one step forward, two back. That's the learning curve. I'm confident enough to be able to get myself out of most jams as I know how to SBF (return to stock) and tried things to get the setup I want.

?1, did you make a nandroid backup before you flashed CM7 and if so, can you restore it? If not, lesson learned, always backup before trying something new. Learned that the hard way myself.

?2, Can you get back into recovery? Try by holding down the "X" key when pressing the power button. Try reflashing and make sure to wipe data/factory reset and cache before rebooting.

If that doesn't work, try this guide and video to SBF.
Official 2.4.330 D2G sbf from TBH
You then take the OTA update and will be back at 2.3.3 and can try again. Read other guides as some have different info and you'll eventually get to your goal.

As for which ROMs, after trying Liquid Smooth and CM7, I had to go back to stock. The GPS doesn't work that well on the AOSP roms and thats a must for me. Stock isn't as snappy or pretty, but I'm getting there. Rooted it still, froze a bunch of bloatware, and just installed launcher pro. Just have to finish off the cosmetics and see if I can theme this or not.

Good luck

You bootstrapped first then rebooted into recovery? Before using rom manager or anything else? Yeah cwm is different in gingerbread. Here is a trick you can try i hope it works. Turn your phone off, with a battery pull and hold the power button down with the battery out for 10 to 15 seconds (it drains all the power out kinda like clearing cache) then boot into recovery (x plus power) with the charger cable in. Once you reach the android ! Do a quick battery pull, the charger connected and then reinsert the battery. It should boot you into cwm. I will try it. Once you get a custom rom like MIUI its baked into the rom

After I nuked my phone into an unstable activation loop, I had some more first hand experience with this today.

Hold X while powering up.

When at the !triangle, press the down volume or both down and up at the same time. That should get you to the Android boot menu. Wipe data/factory reset. Wipe Cache. Reboot.

If bootstrap is installed properly, you will boot into that on the second reboot. There you should be able to install a backup or try to reflash.

This is based off of my experience today and a few web searches. Not exactly scientific, but hopefully functional.

yeah that would be stock recovery....the newest MIUI ICS has Android Boot Menu which allows you to access CWM from power off! its sweet! hold vol down when blue led light flashes.

From what I've read and experienced, after wiping in stock recovery will allow bootstrap to load CWM recovery after 2 boots. This might be the only chance chadzor has to break the bootloop.

You need to download the gapps zip that is next to it in the roms thread to get google. Legal issues is why there not packaged. Please try a couple before settling. Each rom has its own package as to what the user wants. I use MIUI but i also like cm7GB rev(i use bootmanager). I had problems with liquid but havent tryed 3.1 yet and i didnt care for apex but then i didnt give it much time. Alot of the roms are cm7 based some are aosp. You need to find out what floats your boat so to speak. If you need more help, ill be around. Lol
