Default Illegal to Root someone else's phone without their knowledge?

I rooted my coworkers phone phone and wondering if this is illegal? if so, what can i do to not get caught?

Its not illegal, but i would ask them first. I would give them the pros and cons so they can make an educated decision. If it gets broken by rooting the person might try to screw you but if theres conscent that you had that power then it depends. Now wiping your imei, esn, meid is illegal.

I'd be more worried about still being able to root my own phone.

Why did you root your co-workers phone? Was it a favor? Was it to remote access the phone?

I am wondering the same thing... why would you "secretly root" someones phone... then worry about being caught?

I could see some liability in doing that to someones phone if the prosecutor could articulate that you were using it to spy on them or to exploit their privacy etc.
