Droid 2 OTA Gingerbread Not Working - Deleted Bloatware
So I deleted all of the bloatware off of my Droid 2 and now I can't get the OTA 2.3 Gingerbread update. I'm also having trouble use adb with my Mac. I know how to start the adb server and am very comfortable with terminal (senior programmer and macports expert) but my phone will not register with adb for some reason. I have debugging enabled and connect it with "charge only" selected. I read somewhere in an HTC forum that it helps if I use a powered hub... so I'm thinking power might be an issue. I want to use adb to put that stupid application CityID back on my phone so I can get the OTA update. I reinstalled all of the other bloatware using the android market. Maybe someone could send me the .apk for CityID for 2.2 on the Droid 2? Has anyone else encountered this problem? Sorry for running on.... If it makes a difference my phone is currently rooted using Z4 root.
Instructions:
If you are not familiar on how to use RSDLite here is a brief overview
Switch your device to PC mode
Turn on debugging mode (settings>applications>development>debugging mode)
Launch RSDLite (make sure device appears in window)
Select SBF
Start
Device will switch to bootloader and begin the flashing process and will reboot when it is complete.
Here you go, good luck!

I noticed the file name of the SBF is "VRZ_A955_2.3.20.zip" Is this directly Gingerbread (i.e. I won't need to do OTA update)?
Okay, so this will flash my device with 2.2 then and will allow me to get the OTA update? I assume it has all the preloaded crapware with it that I need for the OTA update (CityID, etc)?
Yes once you flash 2.2 you can go to Settings > About Phone > System Update and download the OTA and install it.
Just flashed the phone using RSDLite and the SBF above. I thought it would delete everything off of my Droid 2 but it didn't do that at all. It failed once and then the second time it passed, and everything was still on my Droid2. Except... CityID is now on it! I don't know why it didn't delete everything, I think that's what it was supposed to do...
Anyhow, I was able to activate it easily by dialing *22899
Currently downloading the 2.3 update, waiting for it to finish. Will let you all know how that goes. I never unrooted it, so I'm hoping it is unrooted currently.
Device(s): Droid 2 w/ many roms (retired), LG Ally w/ many roms (retired), Droid Razr Maxx w/ modified stock

You mean your widgets and settings were still the same? That's not a full SBF if so. You should've had to activate your phone again.
Yes, everything was the same! It was freaky! I have no idea what happened, but it did put CityID and the other bloatware back on the phone. I did have to activate it to get back on big red, but everything was still the same (all my photos, contacts, widgets, screen layout, everything).
Thanks for the help everyone, a mystery fix, but it worked!

There is the possibility that you may have backed up your information via Google, and when you signed back in after activating, Google updated your phone with your previous information. Basically, it's a clean install of Android, but Google saved you the hassle of having to setup everything again.

I don't think so. I just had to get back onto the network, I never had to sign in or anything. Also, before I reactivated the phone, everything was still on there, so there would be no way for it to get on there without a Wifi connection or 3G. I read online that not there is a command when flashing an SBF (I believe in the file itself) that will erase a ROM when it flashes, but this is not true with all of them, only some.
