I have never rooted before but after updated with the OTA update I am disappointed with it. Can I just download this name it update.zip and do the same install process as the OTA or do I have to wait/do something else to root?

downloading this will not root you, you have to already be rooted to use this ROM.
but, your a great test case to find out if 2.2 can be rooted since you have updated already you say. You could download that new just released Easy Root app for $1 and see if you can root your 2.2.. if you can, you prove that 2.2 is still rootable and then you can also take advantage of all the root benefits.

I asked in Pete's blog, but maybe someone here knows. I've been using SS with bkapps.....can i use bkapps with this rom? I have LOVED having the ability to change roms without losing anything for my apps.
TIA for the help!

It says it is only available for droid 2.1 otherwise I would have tried that already. I guess I just have to wait for something

Not true if you use an SPRecovery .sbf from RSD Lite then flash this as an update.zip. Then you have root.

**** your right, I didn't even notice that when I bought it. It doesn't really note that on the Droid Life forum but does in the marketplace... my bad.

okay.. I was saying that just simply downloading this file as it is and loading it on your SD card following the process like people are doing today with the not rooted 2.2 thats been posted, will not root you.
So if I am currently stock 2.1 and I want plain vanilla 2.2 but rooted this is the ROM I want want right? any idea why it is so much larger (64MB vs 45MB) than what he started with? not that I will miss the space just wondering what the extra bits are.
am I right that I need to do two things
Fist get rooted under 2.1
second update to this ROM?
For those of you that stayed rooted while the Froyo OTA update was discovered, you can now have it with full root access. Yep, Pete (Mr. Bugless Beast) has already put together the FRG01B build, slipped in superuser and has it ready to rock on your Droid. What’s even better, is the guy is in the middle of a camping trip and managed to hack while roasting some mallows. Dedication.
Instructions…
1. Download the file to your SD card.
2. Open ROM Manager, choose “Install ROM from SD Card.”
3. Scroll down to find FRG01BODEXEDOTA.zip and tap on it.
4. When prompted, check the box to create a backup if you don’t have a recent one.
5. Skip the “wipe data and cache” box if coming from another Froyo build.
6. Phone will reboot, work magic and BAM! Enjoy the new Froyo!
Stupid question but I bought my droid already rooted. Based on the screenshot below what do I need to do to flash the new froyo (and can I do it) Thanks! http://www.pbase.com/twistedlim/image/127159443.jpg

I'd actually be willing to try this, just for the fun of it, but it don't seem to be on the market anymore.

Hope someone finds this useful I am a little gun-shy as to putting this on myself yet. Still too busy playing with the stock 2.2.
StrifeJester, it's very nice of you to provide an additional download link, but Pete likes to track downloads (which is why he says in his official post about this--at the first link you provided: "Blogs, Forums, etc, feel free to post this on your site but please provide a link to my site. Also please use this download link: http://bit.ly/otafroyo"). I think you would be honoring Pete's wishes best if you removed your separate download link.

I opened Rommanager and clockwork recovery and went to Install rom from sd card where I downloaded I then found the file C_01.43.01P. I tapped the file and got the Reboot and Install prompt. The screen went blank and then the motorola icon popped back up and the phone rebooted but I am still at the same baseband.
I restarted the phone and it would not start. Took the battery out and it started up but still at the original baseband. Any thoughts?

When I open rommanager after if fails it gives me some options to try to fix:
1. Flash Alternative Recovery
2. Enabe erase recovery in Rom Manager settings.
3. Clear Download Cashe
4. Flash older recovery
5. Flashboot or SBF a recovery from your PC
I cleared the download cashe but have not tried the others for fear of screwing something up. What is the worst thing that could happen if I Enable erase recovery from Rom manager settings?
Strange enough, this won't work right on my Droid. Dl'd and loaded it up and after a few mins it slows down and locks the phone up and have to batt pull. I've had lots of problems with Froyo roms and only one will keep working albeit haltingly-CM6 RC2. RC1 would not work,2 does for some bizarre reason. I figured certainly since this is the authentic deal straight from the horses mouth that it would work,..nope. So right now I'm sticking with my CM5.0.8 because it's running stable and will keep trying to get the CM6 RC2 as stable as this is,somehow....
