Do you need 3g to text? I sat at football games all fall with no 3g, but with a signal and couldn't text. My husband sat right next time me with his "dumb" phone and texted with everyone and their brother in real time. I was lucky to get one or two text to go through. Is there a setting or something?

I text while talking on the phone all the time with no problems. When you are on the phone, you have no data at all, so having 3G or 1X doesn't make a difference.

What app are you using for texting? Is it the stock app (that came with the phone) or a third party app downloaded form the market?

I have used both stock and Handcent. It doesn't seem to matter. I don't seem to have signal problems or anything. No dropped calls etc.

Are you rooted? If so, are you running a custom ROM?

I am rooted. It doesn't seem to matter which ROM I use. I have used Lithium, UD, and MIUI. Probably others throughout the year. I usually use the stock kernal, if that makes a difference.

The kernel typically affects the wifi radio, but I don't believe it has anything to do with the phone radio.

The only thing I can think of is that your baseband is not the most current version or corrupt. What baseband are you using?
