Default [Solved?] 3g/1x toggle lost in GB

On Froyo, I could toggle between 3G (EV-DO) and 1xRTT by hitting "*#*#INFO#*#*" in the dialer and switching between "CDMA only" and "CDMA auto". After upgrading to Gingerbread 2.3.3 (GPA15), the dropdown to switch between these is missing. Since I was on 1x before I flashed, it seems I am stuck on 1x now. Rebooting/switching airplane mode did not fix.

In that menu, the network type shows "CDMA - 1xRTT". Any ideas?

Edit: did a *228 and got 3G back, but still don't know how to force 1x in GB.
Edit2: Err, after another day with the phone, the dropdown came back on its own...
