Default Back to FROYO

I went backwards and loaded a FROYO rom. We'll see what happens. I have enjoyed my DROID immensely, but I need functionality. I hope my phone will survive a few more months b/c I don't know what to buy right now.

What did you put on it?

My phone never liked any of the GB roms so I switched to the latest Droid Concepts build and I am loving it!

I also switched to Droid Concepts and my phone seems way more responsive so far.

Good to know. I'm probably switching back as the Droid just can't handle GB ROMs. Just not enough memory.

Concepts is working well so far. A few weird things though: I had market issues. I could not get an app to install, but I rebooted a couple times and that got fixed. Otherwise, not bad.

I also put Zeam on there instead of ADW or LP. I'm going for speed at the moment.

For those having issues with GB.... I recommend the latest Charity 12.3 GB ROM. Mine runs like butter...way better than cyan

I'm quite happy* with my Droid running CM7 w/ deprimed kernel @ 900MHz and compcache enabled.

* My Droid is running better than it ever has with this setup. Battery life is the best it's ever been (using original battery from Dec 2009) and performance is great for a device with only 256MB RAM.... but I'm sick of lag and eagerly awaiting something worth worth buying.

I'm just trying to get my phone to the end of July when I am able to upgrade. Hopefully something like the Bionic will be available by then. It has to be dual core with 1gb internal, not the measly 256mb the Droid has. I went back to Froyo from trying multiple GB roms to no avail. GB has some nice funtionality bits in it but the multitasking was horrid, closing any app in the background quickly. Even with half of my apps removed, the old Droid is showing its age, slowing down and lagging like mad. Hate the fact that force feeding it a 32gb card is causing it to not like when I reboot. If I have to reboot, half the time it reboots twice after trying to access the sd card and then freezes up with a system FC and needs rebooted again, going through the dual reboot deal a few times till it finally decides it likes the SD card and will let it follow through on rebooting.

I didn't have much luck with CM7 and had to go back to CM 6.1.2. My only gripe is that no other launcher seems to be as fast as Launcher Pro, and it yet doesn't run properly on any GB roms, force-closing on every screen transition.

I liked CM7 until i started having text message reciept problems, which appears to be a common problem with the og droid.

I'm using Pete's stock GPA15 and LV 1.25 kernal right now with Launcher Pro and my phone works fine 95% of the time. When i start to get significant lag or a lot of launcher redraws, i just restart and that clears things up.

Restarting once or twice a day keeps it pretty happy

I installed GPA15 and it's great. How do you flash the new kernel, just go to recovery and install the .zip file? Also, Peter mentions AutoOverClock.zip only briefly on his blog, is it an actual app that controls overclock?

Yes, flash the kernal by going into recovery and installing the zip. It will only take 20 sec or so, then reboot.

I have not used Pete's auto over clock since i already had setCPU, but let us know if it works for you

Question

I went back to CM 6.1.2, but every overclocked kernel I have tried to use with it kills my wifi. WTF? In the mean time I am using the stock 800 mHz kernel. Before I upgraded to GB I was sure I was overclocking Froyo to 1100 or 1200 but I don't remember which kernel.

I installed LV 1.00GHz kernel, and the difference was already quite noticeable to me that I didn't see any need to overclock anymore. This is great! I finally have my hands on GB mod that works!
