Confused Droid Concepts Build 10?

Hey everyone,

I'm new to rooting and this site. I just rooted my Motorola Droid yesterday and bought the ROM Manager off the market. I downloaded Droid Concepts Build 10 and my phone rebooted and everything, it came back up and I see no difference in the performance of my phone.

Did I do something wrong, anyone have any input?

If you go to "settings", there should be a new option, the first line "Droid Concepts Settings" If you have that, it is probably running right. While you are there, tap "CPU settings --> Max CPU Freq.--> 800. Run it at 800 for a day or three, and you should notice the phone is a bit snappier... (although I flashed Pete's 1.0lv v.2 kernel instead).

I have never run the OTA 2.2, so I don't know what all Should be different. Also, I run Launcher Pro which changed the feel even more.

thanks for the response!

Are you talking about the regular "settings" in the phone? beacuse I was looking for it and I dont see anything new in there nor any CPU settings.

in my settings>About phone it says:

Model number: Droid
Android version: 2.2.2
Baseband version: C_01.43.01P
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9-g68eeef5android-build@apa26 #1
Build number: FRG83G

im new to all this so im not sure if that means its on there or not. I just feel like there was no change, my phone is still really flaky and lags.

is there sonething else I can try?

Humm... My baseband # and Kernel is different. Kernel, I would expect, I flashed one of Pete's kernels...
If at the main settings menu, the first item is not "Droid Concepts Settings", then I bet the flash didn't take. I don't use the ROM manager, so someone else will have to help you flash it, sorry... (I still use the old RDSlite update.zip method to load ROM's and kernals)

hmmmm.. ok, well damn, I paid 6 bucks for ROM Manager to avoid having to do the other method. Ive heard of the way you do it but it seems way more complicated and I cant find where its broked down to a really really low level. It just seems so complex

Maybe a silly question - but are you sure you are rooted? That may be why the ROM manager is not working...

To test, open a terminal window, and type -

SU

This command "opens" a super-user prompt. If you don't get an error, you are rooted...

Back when I was first rooted, I got an OTA update when I wasn't looking, and it unrooted my phone... Took me a week to figure out why shtuff was not working right...

ok well that sucks, hahah I got "denied." so back to square 1. The odd this to me is that i still have super user and I downloaded SetCPU and it asked for "super permissions" and I granted them.. Would it still do that if im not rooted? And just incase, I tried doing the update.zip way and everything was fine up until i hit "install update.zip file form SD"or something like that, then it came to "action aborted or something and I dont know why"

Sorry I keep bugging you, but do you have any other suggestions?

Sounds like you're not rooted or your Superuser app is messed up. Who knows what happened. Sometimes installing a ROM can have a hiccup and cause this. How did you root your phone? Maybe repeat the process and try flashing again. If that doesn't work then re-root and try flashing another ROM to see if the same thing happens.

If you do the "install from update.zip", don't forget to first hit the "allow install" first...

But if you lost Root, you gotta get that back before you can flash the updates.

BTW, when I lost my Root, I still had the app "super user". The app does not give you root, I think it just controls / remembers what apps have root permission.

Thanks guys, the past 2 days i have been pulling my hair out trying to reroot, I tried (litterally) about 5 different ways and NONE seemed to work for me, running into issues that i would search and fine nothing on it. Anyway, I suppose one of them somehow went through because just for the hell of it, I went back into the emulator and typed SU and it gave me permissions.

So first thing I did was download a ROM, I downloaded a Cynogenmod (sp?) and thought I bricked my phone because it wouldnt go past the M (motorola symbol) when booting. Somehow through going throught the recovery boot or whatever, I hit restore factory default and it finished the mod and came up just fine.

Minus one thing, NO Android Market. I dont know how I am supposed to download anything. I looked around onlina and everyone kept talking about this "gapps." I have no idea what that is and i couldnt really find a good explination. So I figured I could just try another ROM and im sure itll have it, so I went into ROM Manager (which i bought to get the premium) and it said i needed the premium ROM Manager to download the rom i wanted. I dont get that! i bought it, it even says in the Android Market online, and i een tried to resend it to my phone through the online android market but none of this worked.

So as of right now I am downloading another ROM from the ROM Manager, (one not from the premium section) in hopes that i can atleast get my ROM Manager Premium back, so I can try a premium ROM in hopes it comes with the Market........

We will see!!!

DEF thanks for all the help guys! ill post what i come up with.

gapps is the Google Apps package which no one can include in their ROM for legal reasons (i.e. Google owns them). ROM Manager has the various versions for the different versions of Android in the list of ROMs. It says Google Apps and its in the free section. It's towards the bottom of the list. ROM Manager should ask you if you want to append the gapps package when it flashes the ROM and make it nice and automated, otherwise you just need to go into recovery after flashing your ROM and flash the gapps zip (or you can flash it through ROM manager separately as well). Many ways to do it really. Just let me know if you have problems. Just make sure you pick the right version of gapps for your ROM or you may get a few hiccups. Hope this helps.
