theres the new Sholes.info ROM
Its 2.0.1 but it looks and feels like 2.1 . Also it has quite a few tweaks that optimize it and its in my opinion(and many others) the best ROM available
more info on this thread New Sholes.info 2.0.1 ROM w/ 2.1 Apps

Since the alldroid forums are down, the thread PeDe7 started about how to get the hc's ROM needs some of the file s- I am currently uploading both of the hc ROMs (regular and clear) as well as flan 2.1 clean, a basic 2.0.1 virgin for reverting, as well as the su update and root helper files into the same location at Media Fire.

I'll have the links up back in that thread shortly.

He made 2 versions, PeDe7 linked to the normal looking 2.1 (I think) and then hc also made another one with a clear status bar.

Their both the exact same ROM you were running before. hc = humancyborg (I like to abbreviate, comes from being a twitter addict). One has a clear status bar, one does not.

PeDe7 linked to hte direct files, but I went poking around in the alldroid.net site and manually downloaded both myself, b/c the files were being funny over here (this is before alldroid was hacked). IIRC, the one PeDe7 linked to was the normal one, with the normal status bar.

I can't point you to a thread or anything (not even screen shots) b/c I don't have it on my phone yet and can't find anything about the ROMs at alldroid right now, but someone else somewhere on the Net might have some screenies.

Oh, and yes - I am uploading *all* of the files that I got both from PeDe7's thread as well as those that I got poking around alldroid.net. A total of 7 files, totalling 216+ MB in size.

Not that I heard - I have the ROMs as I downloaded them New Year's Day. Still haven't gotten around to putting it n my DROID yet, though, b/c I am already joined at the hip to my DROID....

Links going up in that PeDe7 thread. I'll also post them in this thread.

These are the files that PeDe7 originally had linked around New Years. Just a bit after that I believe he changed it for another ROM (and / or changed the procedure to get it on the phone) and I may not have everything.

I hope he can confirm if these are all the files.

Anyhoo, here are the files (that I have):

The original 2.1 HumanCyborg ROM (as linked by PeDe7 when he started the thread): http://www.mediafire.com/file/ux92wxdznxz/HC 2.1 SU DROID BOOT.zip

The Clear Status Bar HumanCyborg ROM (found from alldroid.net): http://www.mediafire.com/file/dz3n1imvgtn/HC 2.1 SU DROID BOOT CLEAR STATUS.zip

DROID su Update: http://www.mediafire.com/file/ux2jmmyzyxk/droid-superuser_update.zip

DROID Root Helper: http://www.mediafire.com/file/1xrmt1du5uz/droid root helper.zip

Rooting Tools: http://www.mediafire.com/file/wj7mvlmjiyz/RootingTools.zip

Virgin OEM backup: http://www.mediafire.com/file/hvylzbmmtmm/virginoem-backup.zip

Flan 2.1 Virgin (also from alldroid.net, in case anyone wants to play with it): http://www.mediafire.com/file/yd2vymzm1tw/flan 2.1.zip

Best 2.1 I've tried is 2.01 + 2.1 apps.

Unfortunately I don't think the best I tried is available any more - it was the v4 of the Birdman ROM, IRRC...and was not restored after Alldroid got hacked a while back.

I would not try the Sholes R1 ROM - lots of issues reported (by me and others) related to growing lag/slow-down, and other problems after using it for a bit.

WHEN WHEN WHEN

are we going to get that miraculous 2.1 ROM customized from the OFFICIAL 2.1 that was just released to DEVS??

WHEN!!!

AND, furthermore, I'd like to know HOW IN THE WORLD did alldroid get HACKED???

It's a site made by freaking tech geeks, for crying out loud!

But seriously, when the heck is the "official" 2.1 rom for ROOTERS coming out? I thought it would take hours after release, not a freaking year in tech-time!

yea I will wait it out for that 2.1 official rooted release because that sholes.info rom is way to buggy. spent the whole day trying to get it to work and all I got out of it was a dead battery

well, it's tough to decide.

I'm running Greek's 2.1, which is sweet and runs pretty smooth, except for the freaking lag with *live* wallpaper usage (although I have to say digital rain is nice!)

I'd LIKE to be able to go with the OFFICIAL 2.1 release for the Droid, but won't I lose root if I do?

And if I DO lose root, that means I will no longer have a crystal clear transparent notification bar, which is NOT acceptable!

if you ota to 2.1 you will lose root it seems, what I meant was someone coming out with a 2.1 rom for the droid that was based off the 2.1 sdk, not the n1

I expect that we won't get a rooted 2.1 that runs like silk and we love until VZW releases their 2.1 update and the devs grab it and fix it up for us.

Someone who really knows can correct me if I'm speaking out of my nether parts...

I noticed some weirdness on the screen calibration after using the 2.1 alarm clock with the sholes.info rom. I was running RC1, then the 1.0 and noticed it with both. It made it real interesting in the morning trying to hit the snooze. I'm back to 2.01 virgin with Dock Runner for now. I'll wait for the official 2.1 and see what mods I can make for my liking. I'll post what I do.

If you want to improve your 2.01 experience while waiting for a really solid 2.1, you might want to just go to alldroid.org and pick up a few of the 2.1 apps that are available there as installable APKs (no root required), like the 2.01 Home app with five screens (excellet!), the 2.1 Gallery, the 2.1 News and Weather Widget, and the 2.1 Music player...those four clearly improve the overall 2.01 experience w/out causing any issues that I've noticed. Win-win.

I'm not sure that all four are available to install w/out root, but I think several of them are...and if you have root on 2.01 you can easily install all four.

Easy way to get 2.1 experience is to grab the .apk's like Redflea said, if you want the real f'n deal then use humancyborg's 2.1. I know at least 2 different dev's who are working there asses off on building us a official 2.1 from the source that was released. I have been beta testing one of them and it is realllly fast, almost 0 lag in any area's that the current 2.1's have. Nexus live wallpaper works now, still a little slow when using it BUT much much better then before. The biggest thing we are trying to figure out is the problem we have with it switching from 3G/EVDO to 1X all the time, once that is done then he has given me permission to release it.

No, you won't lose root. This is just a rooted "stock" 2.0.1 rom.

Let's say I wanted to kill root for warranty purposes. How would I go about doing that? Is there a de-root update.zip?

Well you have a few options.

You could use the virgin-oem rom and apply the 2.1 OTA update that is coming or you could apply the 2.0.1 "official" update now and that will unroot you. I can post that in a few if you need it. Also, I think the droidmod updater gives you the option to install the root 2.0.1 update (no root).

Here you go. This is the 2.0.1 Update.zip file. This will un-root your phone.

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

To remove the Super User application type the following via ADB while in recovery BEFORE you un-root. It will unroot if your don't do this but you will have the superuser app in your app drawer.

Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
cd /system/app
rm Superuser.apk
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
sync
reboot
Also, the following link which is intended to help people with "bricked" devices would also do this for you but it would FOR SURE remove all traces of you being rooted.
