Just to be sure we understand each other when I unzip the rar I get a folder called BDS-20100119-0608 and inside that folder is another folder called BDS-20100119-0608 and inside that are the image files, hence double BDS folders. Make sure you have extracted the downloaded rar, that you dont have double folders and that you have the BDS folder placed inside the nandroid folder. Then follow Petes step by step instuctions including wiping before installation.
wow thank you! I feel like a pretty big noob now lol

!o! I never even intended on flashing this ROM. I figured it would fizzle in a couple days at best, but damn peer pressures a mofo! Now I gotts to see what everybody else is talking about
I am liking it, I realized that it was set up in a way where unless u backed up all your apps on ur sdcard you would have to reinstall them from the market, instead of letting the phone retrieve all of them for you (if that makes sense) otherwise I like it over all other roms i have tried, which is the HC 2.1 rom and the sholes.info one lol. very stable. I am using it with the launcher2 dark/expresso theme one on alldroid. It is super slick, just with the launcher defaulted it to 3rd screen instead of 2nd one. also really like the easy uninstall of apps u hate on there like corporate calender and stuff like that. Wish I could get metamorph working to try the rest of the theme but thats for a different thread . . .
Grandmaster, I've gone there too as well...since I am the OP of this thread, I guess that's appropriate.
My initial sense of this ROM is that it's as fast and stable as Birdman V4 (high praise, indeed)...now that's with just an hour or so on it, but it has been very good so far. If all the apps moved from /System to /Data has memory usage benefits then this ROM should hold up well over time as well.
What I'm excited about (always looking forward) is the new Alldroid ROM that a group is going to start working on over at Alldroid...that sounds like fun as well.
However, Pete (Bugless dev) is working hard and provide frequent updates...that's really nice. V.5 is coming soon w/multi-touch gallery, and fix for music app crashing in multimedia cradle...
I just came from a 2.1 ROM (can't remember which) and this one is SO much faster. I didn't reinstall Home++ and stayed with stock, and am so much happier. If we could have the pinch/zoom gallery that'd be great. Also, he has the new 2.1 backgrounds, but none are animated?
you dont want live wallpapers until 2.1 is fully optimized for them, trust me.
Agreed, like I said in a previous thread, its not a huge deal, just thought it was interesting he took them as "still" wallpapers instead of the animated. But, with how this ROM handles RAM and is so fast, I'm sure it could do animated wallpapers no sweat.
Ehh I wouldn't say it could handle it 'no sweat'. It might be a little better then the 2.1 ROM but you will still get some lag and stuttering especially if you have lots of widgets or apps running/
anyone having an issue with lagged typing in the browser when using the physical keyboard? I know its pretty specific but its kinda annoying when trying to type in forums and stuff and the phone is lagging like 4-5 words behind me
EDIT:
I am using .4 too

Yes, I have that problem on version 0.4.
EDIT: Affects the built-in Browser and Dolphin Browser. Seems strange that both would have the same lag...
EDIT AGAIN: Wrong; I never tried Dolphin Browser. I apparently have no memory this week...

I also experienced the typing lag on the browser. I also noticed that the text on websites get a little blurry when doing pinch zoom or just scrolling. Overall this is an excellent build.
And I have to say that MUCHO kudos to Joe (Messenger13) for helping a nOOb through rooting and installing this ROM. Joe, hopefully I didn't completely lie down on the job (I have to think that I asked intelligent questions!). He is the MAN (and he even likes Guinness!).
What do you guys think of the multi-touch gallery? Is it better than the 2.1 gallery?
I'm deciding whether I want to upgrade to v5 or not. Another bummer is that the news/weather widget only works for the weather, and I only use it for the news

Well ... i don't feel I did much. I was up to my elbows troubleshoot some Cisco switches that were being stooopeeeed.
And you ain't no nOOB. You're just ... "new".
But yea . . . I does like me Guinness. And if you want to try something REALLY good, mix a shot of Captain Morgan with a pint of Guinness. I call it an "Irish Pirate". But be careful ... drink responsibly.

Never seen the 2.1 Gallery but this multi touch one is pretty cool. No pinch zoom, but looks great, easy options, multiple ways to display.
But in the end...it's the gallery. It's not like a hard-core app.

The pinch zoom is pretty damn cool and smooth in my opinion but its not as feature-rich as the 2.1 gallery
After installing v.4, my apps weren't automatically re-installed after setting up my primary gmail account, so I added them via an Astro backup.
However, now none of them are listed in my "downloads" section in the marketplace, and presumably I won't get notice when updates are avaialble...if I search for apps that I installed via Astro they are listed as not installed in Marketplace.
Any ideas on how to fix this, other than going and reinstalling all of them via the marketplace?
Thanks...

They have to be installed from the marketplace, its a bummer.
Yea, this sucks. I'm combing thru the DROID's files to see if I can find the Market db. It HAS to be there somewhere!
I was thinking along those lines recently and forgot to follow up on it...if the market db can be found, then you'd think we could copy it from the nandroid to the current setup via ADB or Root Explorer...that would be very cool.
Well I perused my entire last nandroid update (pre-bugless v.4) and couldn't find any file that looked like it contained the market data...someone smarter than I needs to figure this out!

I'm combing the *.db files now. Finding some interesting things, but not the Market db yet.
Umm . . . what's up with releasing 6 ROMs in 3 days? This is starting to get ridiculous, isn't it?? I'm just gonna sit tight with .4 and wait until the official 2.1 release party.

Heh, heh, heh....I know how you feel. I never expected to hear myself wish that a dev would slow down a little...
I found an interesting file - downloads.db...in data\com.android.providers.downloads\databases\dow nloads.db.
What do you think? I'm thinking I might rename my existing downloads.db, copy my previous one in from my nandroid, and see what happens...
Didn't work...tried the download.db file, and the whole com.android.providers.downloads and did not restore the download listing in the marketplace...

Now i may be a idiot, but this is NOT the same as rooting the droid correct?
This is just installing a new rom on the phone. my last phone was a omnia with WM6.1 on it and I was uploading roms all the time onto it, but rooting the droid scares me a little bit lol..
also how would you go back to the 'factory' setup once 2.1 is officially released?

so rooting is something I will really want to do, in order to do any customizing of the phone.. correct? any downsides to rooting, GPS not working, or other common issues?

Rooting the Droid is the equivilent of unlocking/running the updater on our Omnias or other WinMobile devices. You cannot flash custom roms until you have root access on your Droid. There is not a downside to rooting your Droid unless you need warranty repair then you'll want to flash to stock and unroot before taking it in. Rooting itself will not cause any problems, however some ROMS may cause problems with GPS etc. So the same as flashing your Omina, you pick a ROM based on included features. Some of the more exteme roms will have more problems like the Sense UI ROM cannot use the battery or SDcard on our Droids so make sure you know what you are flashing.

Thank you very very much for that post. When i first had heard about rooting it seemed like a in-depth process that had alot of glitches, but when you break it down and explain it is no different then winmo....

Former WinMobile Flasher myself. I have a pretty extensive history with many Rom Builders over at PPCGeeks between my 3 Touch Pros, Touch Pro 2 and Omnia so I know what you are talking about
Back on topic! Anybody else in no particular hurry to flash v6? I passed on it myself...
Are you saying that the news and weather widget doesn't work in .5 or .6?
It can display the weather only one, but not news or news & weather.

Ok thank you to everyone who helped me root/install this rom and I will say that this is the fastest thing ive ever seen.. i thought it was fast when I first bought it.. the only thing I miss so far is the haptic feedback for the lower buttons

I just noticed that.. but one other thing I noiticed is the 'all animations' is off.. default is 'all on'. when i switched over to all on like it was, i noticed a slow down in performance.. so dont think that the rom is the only thing making is seem so fast, its also that.....
But i got my 5 homescreens and im a happy camper.. and I even got to keep my droid eye in the beginning. my phone doesnt even look hacked :P
