Default Some questions about the OG Droid and Rooting

My wife has an original Droid that is currently on 2.2.2 and baseband C01.43.01P, build number FRG83G. Can this be rooted from where it is at or will it require an sbf? Also, in the sticky, I see something about kernel...has the bootloader been unlocked on the original Droid?

Sorry, I play around with my Droid X and have it rooted and the whole nine yards, but never fiddled with the OG Droid. She is getting pretty crappy battery life now, so thought I might fix hers up a bit

OG DROID always had an unlocked bootloader.

Read the sticky, it has every bit of info you'll ever need. If oyu need help with specifics, let us know.

Hold tight, adding links that will help you tremendously...

Read this: Rooting the Droid without rsd lite up to and including FRG83D

^^^ agreed. That method and this one are the only two that should be used now. The one I linked used RSD Lite with a custom stripped down .sbf file and it will also install a custom recovery. However, the link for RSD Lite in that thread is broken, but I have it in my collection.

And once you play with the Droid 1 a bit, you will find that it is practically un-brickable.

good luck

Just a thought, how old is the OG Droid? the batteries on a smart phone really aren't worth a crap after a year or so. as far as rooting, if you are using a 2nd-init rom on your X, its not much different. you might try using gingerroot, or Z4root to get it rooted.

Thanks everyone! Been through the stickies and saw a few different ways to root and such and was mainly looking for what is the best or works right now. Thanks for answering my other question I didn't ask yet...if z4root had a version for the og droid

Well, this droid was mine and when I got my X I gave it to my wife. So, it's at least 2 years old. I purchased another battery a few months back as a back up. Guess I can through it in there and see what it does.

Any specific suggestions on which rom is the best on battery life right now for the og droid? I am not lazy, but I could spend hours reading through the posts, but I figured some of you seasoned hardcore og droid people would know these things in the blink of an eye.

I can't help you on that one, as far as anything new, I have had my X for about 6 months. I used to run Liquid from CVPCS, course thats what I have on my X right now too. lol. Also Pete's GPA is a good solid rom too.

Ahh, the good old "which ROM is best for my Droid" question. . . .

ChaCHING!!! I got another dollar!

That is the good and bad about the A855 phone. It is all up to your own interpretation.

@trav473, CVPCS had nothing to do with any liquid ROM, he was Sapphire and now works on CM7.

As for battery life, AFAIK, and from my research and experience, it goes back to my years old methodology. Buy another battery. Find/buy a battery only charger. Use appropriately, i.e. only turn off your phone for a moment to switch out charged batteries, do not charge the battery in the phone unless an emergency. This method has worked very well for me, after all, that port in the phone should only be used for hacking (ADB) and/or file transfer, no need to wear it out uselessly. . . .

good luck

I stand corrected, Thank you Teddy. And my appologies to Liquid Dev. I had CVPCS on the brain for his 2nd-init break through on the X.

I have run about everything on my X. I am currently using miui 1.7.22 and very stable and great customization, but it's not known for superior battery life right now. Although, I get good battery life out of mine.

Actually, this is not just a thread about "which ROM is best for my Droid". The question was which ROM is known for getting good battery life. Some rom's are known for horrible battery life and some are known for great battery life. This information comes from people that actually use those rom's on their phones and those that don't mind sharing that information with others without having to complain about it

Oops, didn't mean to offend. I've had my A855 since release day and have tried almost every single ROM on it since roms for it were available. I still have it.

Over the last two months, I have tried Droid Concepts, various Cyanogenmod 7 (releases, RC's and nightlies), Project Elite, and Simply Stunning; the latter two still being based on CM code. Out of those four, I think Project Elite gave me slightly less battery (and other) performance than the others. I am now (for about the last week or two) on regular Simply Stunning as it seems to perform better than CM (go figure?). I average anywhere from at least 18hrs to over 24 on each charge. The variable could be obviously some days I use the phone more, and/or which battery I have in it as I now have three OEM's that I trade between as I discussed earlier.

I hope that is more of what you were asking for, as those are my experiences.

I have read about bad battery from MIUI, and some of the CM nightlies, and even sometimes one of Pete's GPA builds.

good luck
