Default Boot to recovery from off?

Is there a way to boot to recovery from the off position? I had to go back to my droid for a few days and had trouble activating. It boots up now but will not get past the red eye. I did a factory reset prior to that but now I am stuck. Typing this from an iPad and have no access to my computer to sbf.

I can't remember if you can boot to recovery by holding certain buttons down when you press the power on button. Any help?

Thanks,

Turn phone off (preferably remove battery, but if you can get it off, fine.

Now:

1) Open physical keyboard
2) Press and hold letter X
3) Press power on button to turn on phone (Do not let go of X)3) Press power on button to turn on phone, then release (Do not let go of X)
4) Once in recovery you can let go of X.

Alternate way:
1)
2) Press and hold Volume up and Camera button (remember that the camera button has 2 press settings, the first to activate auto focus, and a second, deeper setting for actually activating the camera - you need it fully depressed for this to work.
3) Press power on button to turn on phone, then release (Do not let go of Vol up and Camera)
4) Once in recovery you can let go of all buttons
