Default Using Volume Rocker as Screen On Button

My Droid's power button is completely useless now that it's stuck all the way down. Sucks that this happens right when I decide to keep holding on for future devices. I was running CM7.1 RC 1 and there's a feature that allows me to wake the phone up with the volume rocker and I was using a widget in the notification area to turn of the screen. I found the screen off equivalent, but I can find anything that will let me change the screen on button to the volume rocker. Anyone know of an app or a ROM with this feature?

Yes. I am using SS5.4 and it has that feature.

[Rom] SS 5.4 GB - 2.3.4 - 5/31/11

But now he has a 5.5 version out. Also there is a thread about remapping the power to the camera button, but some said it was wonky at times.

Power Button Broke - Want To Remap To Camera Button

good luck

Thanks teddyearp, that link was extremely helpful! I remapped it to my Camera button and all is well again.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you do the remapping? I checked out the link with this:
"The original lines:
key 116 POWER WAKE
key 211 FOCUS
key 212 CAMERA

Changed them to:
key 116 GRAVE
key 211 POWER WAKE
key 212 POWER WAKE"

But I don't know where the "/system/usr/keylayout/sholes-keypad.kl" file is located. I am currently using an app to turn the screen off with an on-screen button, but it's incredibly aggravating to slide the phone open each time I want to use it. Thanks!

EDIT: never mind; I'm dumb. I'm gonna re-flash the ROM and see if it does the trick.

Well, I edited the file for the ROM, re-zipped, then flashed it. No change whatsoever. Looks like I'll keep searching for a reliable way to do this.

Wow, really? The lines you need to change are in the file called "sholes-keypad.kl". It is located on your phone in this directory: /system/usr/keylayout

I don't know why you felt you needed to reflash your rom to do this, as that is not at all what the thread linked told one to do.

I made an update.zip style file, if you want to try that, make sure you make a nandroid backup first and then try flashing this file:

good luck
