I read about this from somebody else on here and so I took the plunge and bough it from the marketplace. It was pretty straight forward, it downloaded the sholes.info roms and once downloaded it rooted and gave me a list of things it could install and the option to check or uncheck them. I left everything checked and let it do it's business, took roughly 4-5mins and when it was done it was rooted. Pretty simple.
I also read about people overclocking their Droid's so of course I had to try, went to the marketplace yet again and downloaded SetCPU. At first it would only overclock the Droid to 600Mhz. Couldn't figure out why until SholesMod Updater let me know there was a new Rom. After downloading and flashing the rom this update let me use SetCPU to overclock all the way to 1Ghz. So since I had seen the that 800Mhz was the best I overclocked to that and was done and completely happy. The Droid was fast, there was a lot of new features added from the rom. This lasted for 1 day...
UNTIL last night when SetCPU updated their application in the market place. I updated it of course and once I did all hell broke lose, the Droid kept restarting continuously and I couldn't figure out how to make it stop.
I took out the battery and let it sit for a little while, put the battery back in and it was fine for about 3mins and then it started restarting again. So after taking the battery out and restarting it I quickly got to the Marketplace and removed SetCPU and all was fine. So I'm not sure what they updated but it pissed my Droid off. Anybody else have this problem? I emailed the developer to tell them about the problem so hopefully it gets fixed soon.
Sorry for the long post, I wanted to give a walk through to anybody who was unsure on this process.

Haven't updated, but that's good to know. I'll just stick to the current version of the BB ROM I'm using that has SetCPU included with it, no problems so far.

Beauty doesn't, but Bugless Beast does - or at least it did - I have the version from 1/26 I think. I heard that they requested that Pete remove it from his ROM, so it may not be in the newer versions.
ive had no issues with the newest sholes 202 rom, 201 from yesterday had some FC's but this one seems better.
Im not about to OC my droid unless there is some awesome game that comes out that stutters and a decent OC solves it...thats it.
Yeah there is really no need to overclock it. It was a little smoother (I think thats a word lol) with it being overclocked but it works fine without it. BUT since I bought that application (granted only 0.99) it would be sweet if it worked.

Yeah, I meant Beast. Guess SetCPU is left out of the newest version.
Device(s): Droid X, Leaked 2.2.
Xoom with 70 apps that work.

Why would you want an ota? It won't have multitouch, it won't be overclocked, etc. I am sure Sholes will update the ROM to 2.1 in a reasonable amount of time.
OTA 2.1 would be almost like going backwards, there is no benefit that I can see except maybe flash (if it's incorporated).
Quick question regarding sholes's roms.. do you always go through those settings when you flash a new version? Or just the first time? Just wondering.. Thanks!
Quick desc. of updates:
- Fixed wipe data problem during install
- Updated Superuser.apk to newest version (should fix FCs of SMUpdater and black screen on first open)
- Removed the option to install JIT (was way too buggy and causing way too many problems)
- Added AudioToggle.apk to fix headphone disconnect switching bug. (credit to trtg) - Reverted change from initial 2.0.2 that had a new su binary that caused the phone to reboot
Instructions for those who don’t have the app already:
-On your Droid, go to Settings > Applications > Make sure “Unknown Sources” is checked.
-Open the Browser on your Droid, go to this website: http://downloads.sholes.info/smupdater.apk
-It will download the APK, when it’s done, tap it and it will ask to install it. (You do not need to wipe data)
-After it’s done installing, open the app, and follow the instructions to root (if you’re not rooted), update sprecovery, and install the ROM!
Sholes posted that they fixed something that caused a reboot in the 2.02 ROM...Maybe that's your answer to the reboot over and over etc.

It wont really matter. I downloaded this and I use the 2.1 Launcher and have all the 2.1 widgets, and programs. And it will run faster now because I am running it at 1000 mHz. So why update?

I've been running the Shole's ROM, OCed to 1 GH for 24 hours with no trouble.
SetCPU is the key.
Here's my setup;
CPU Governor is set to ondemand.
Profiles are as follows:
Charging- 250 MH max, 250 MH min
Sleep/Stanby- 250 MH max, 250 MH min
Power < 40%- 550 MH max, 250 MH min
Failsafe Profile- Battery > 50*C- 550 MH max, 250 MH min
Set on Boot is checked.
Problems have been mentioned downclocking to 125 MH. The system sometimes can't wake fast enough for an app/whatever, and bad things happen. If SetCPU was set a certain way and Set on Boot was checked, that could explain the cyclical rebooting.
With the above settings, I get snappy response @ 1000 MH for anything that I'm running, but while my Droid lounges around, it only sips the juice. I'm at 60% battery power remaining after 13 1/2 hours since she was unplugged this morning. I'm usually at 30 or 40 by now. I would say I've been playing with it a tiny bit more than usual today just checking out the speed & responsiveness of different apps. It is definitely a little zippier. Not 81.82% zippier, mind you, but a definite improvement.
If it weren't for SetCPU's ability to do profile management of the CPU speed, the trade off in power usage I would expect from OCing to 1000 MH probably wouldn't be worth it to me.

Reason: Governor is set to ONDEMAND (very important)

Yeah, that was the problem. I didn't know they had an update for it out. I went and updated to 2.0.2 and then used SetCPU to overclock and have had no problems what so ever. What's weird though is that I was running 2.0.1 for a couple days with no problem until SetCPU was updated. That then caused the problems but all is good now.
The only problem is my friend who is rockin a 3GS happened to see me having troubles and had a field day, saying that my problems proved iPhone was better. I just showed him the fixed phone and said hey you should overclock your iPhone....oh yeah thats right.

Hi guys,
Feeling a bit dumb now, but I can't locate the post on how to set up the wifi tether. Trouble for me is that I read 3-4 different forums, and I don't know where I saw it, but there's a really simple step by step, I think.
Running the Sholes' Team ROM, OCed to 1GH. Boy is this great!

It comes one the sholes "bitchin bagel" rom, so don't you just click on the wifi logo and it starts the connection? With mine I just click on the icon, it starts the connection and then it shows up on my laptop as Android.tether. Then I just click on it and I'm all good.
I did go in and play with the setting though, like changing the name and adding a password to the wifi but thats it.

Uhhh, yeah. I'm an idiot. lol
I didn't realize it was an app that was installed along with BB, so I was looking in the Wifi settings menu. I have over 140 apps, so I overlooked the neat new green one. Must've passed by it on my all-apps page half a dozen times!
Good Gawd Damned, can this phone possibly get any better?!
SetCPU it's on the marketplace, your phone has to be rooted. I used SholedMod Updater from the marketplace. It was $5 for the SholesMod Updater but worth it IMO, especially since the developers put a lot of work into it.
If I root and run this rom or any will, i lose my exchange email settings. as i do not have my password for these settings and don't want to deal with the IT department.
This rom broke my gps, had to go back to stock for it to work again. When I used this app's "go back to stock" option, it broke my search by voice. anyone else experience this issue? any idea on fixing both?

See my post above for my settings. They work really well. My max is 1000 MHz, but my suggestion is to follow my profiles and just sub in your desired max. People have had trouble setting the minimum to lower than 125 MHz.
I have a fair bit of experience running RMClock for my Intel Mobile (Dothan) in my notebook. Does the same thing, plus undervolting.
I would like to hear from someone who just has "ondemand" set as far as battery life, etc.
I'm going on 18 hours and my battery is still at 30%. (For the record, I do have a profile set to throttle down to a max of 550 MH when the battery falls below 40%.)

I have mine set on on-demand. I havent gone a full day yet though. I'll charge it tonight and then see how long it runs under normal use.

That'd be great if we could get a real effort together to compare notes here. Someone should make a thread about that specifically, but not until the mods figure out what they're gonna do with all the OC & ROM threads. I think they're gonna make a new section or something.
When is the free version expected to be available? And will it be available on the app store or just available on their site to download and load onto the memory stick in .apk form? Just wondering... .. hmm, i don't suppose google/verizon monitors what apps we download from the app store and will be able to see that we rooted our Droids?
The free is availabe now. Psychokitty thanks will try settings. Also can you install other themes into the phone besides the glass one available? So far enjoying the root experience.
this is so awesome. finally rooted and installed 2.1 with this app.
1st question: how can i get the old unlock screen back? i don't like the original 2.0 unlock screen, believe it or not. i rather have the 2.0.1 one. is there a way to enable it?
2nd question: i saw a bunch of options i could select during installation. can i start the app again and start the whole process again to test out all the dif options and settings to change how the home screen looks, coverflow, etc.? is there a way to just turn these things on and off or do i have to do a fresh install again?

I searched the Marketplace and only the $5 one showed up.

Dunno. That may require some digging at the source site.

I believe you have to reinstall (by selecting the Sholes app) and select options that way for whatever you want to try.
Look for the update in the market. The author has removed an option (JIT) that was causing problems.
...BTW, I am by no means an expert at any of this. I just happened top have done this successfully, but I don't understand how any of this all works.

Dunno, I haven't even run the Glass theme. I'm using Sweeter home II, which is a bit of a resource hog and part of the reason I wanted to OC in the first place. lol

gps works fine for me. i think it actually got even better than before i flashed it. before it wouldnt detect my position with gps turned on while in my building. now it detects in about 10 seconds or so within 70 meters.
Within 70 meters is horrible. I hope everyone know to do a couple figure 8's over their heads with the Droid to update the calibration. Whenever I get lousy gps readings, a quick figure 8 or two does tighten it up right away.

Internal memory not SD memory. The entire 92mb download seems to have went into my internal memory instead of my sd card. I had well over 100mb before I downloaded.
Whoa, it takes up that much extra internal memory? Good thing I uses Pete's work and not the Sholes stuff.....
