Internal memory not SD memory. The entire 92mb download seems to have went into my internal memory instead of my sd card. I had well over 100mb before I downloaded.
Does this Rom take up this much space internally?
When I purchased this app and have been using it for a little over a day now, I also saw my internal memory go down with only about 50MB remaining. I was getting concerned just like you are, so I went in and deleted some of my less used apps. But this morning when I woke up, I had 108MB of memory back on my Internal Phone Storage. I don't know what happened, but I'm happy with that. Otherwise, the app has been running great for me since the latest update.

If I download Sholes from the marketplace, go through the installation process and have problems... is it possible to just go back to the phone settings and hit "Factory Data Reset"?
I know that I will lose everything, but the phone will be restored back to out-of-the-box condition -- or not?

Memory leak. Issue with sholes rom...thought they fixed it, though.

No it won't go back to out of the box condition. It will just wipe all personal info and apps. To get back to stock you need to find a plain jane 2.0.1 ROM and flash it.

Mine has 73mb remaining memory after killing all tasks...havent seen it ever go to 100 since the root.
That's not memory, that's RAM. RAM is what is used for running services/apps, memory is storage space for the apps you download and other various things. Killing tasks doesn't create more memory, just RAM.
(Yes I know in the app it says memory, that is because RAM is short for Random Access Memory)
Its memory, and it is ram. not talking about internal or external storage.
Flash memory has taken over for storage but at the end of the day it is storage for the cards, while operating memory is ram but still memory none the less.
Terms desktop memory and desktop ram for DDR2 and 3 go hand in hand.
The sholes rom is using more memory but is still zippy so the jury is out on that one.

Is this app supposed to take up almost 100mb of internal memory? I just installed it and now I only have 55mb of internal left.
When I first installed it the same thing happened to me. What I realized though was that my phone booted up with all my apps running at the same time. I had to kill all those unneccery task for me to get my memory back. Now it works perfect. No problems.
Does the phone's camera or video recorder work any better with this ROM?
I'm soooooooo close to trying...
It might be my imagination but for me it seems like it did.I was taking pictures last night and my phones auto focus seemed to be working better because it sucked before the root. It could be in my head though. Anyone else see this?
one thing i don't like so far is viewing zoomed in pictures in the gallery (i know, pretty specific and nitpicky). when i zoom in on pics, it gets all blurry and the details are not sharp. unlike in the stock gallery app in 2.0.1, when i zoomed in, the pic "readjusted/reloaded" at the zoomed level and the details were sharp again. anyone else notice this?
also, is there a way to use the bugless beast rom with this app? seems like i can just dump the BB img in some directory that the SMU is reading and it'll be a selectable option when trying to flash. am i wrong?
Thanks one and all for the support and encouragement...I did the root and rom last night, and I appreciate all of the added features.
I have two questions to pose.
1) Does anyone besides me experience very slow browsing? I am getting 3G coverage but browsing is painfully slow, so slow in fact the the screen times out repeatedly while waiting for a page. I get the same results on the stock browser, Dolphin, and XScope lite.
2) Is it necessary to keep update.zip, sholesmod-2.0.2.rom and smupdater-4 on the SD card or can I delete them to recover the space?

The SholesMod Updater from the market place includes a 2.0.1 rom with it so if you need to back to factory you can.
On a side note- This thread has morphed into roughly 2-3 serperate threads that are all now combined and there is about 4-5 different conversations going on, which is really hard to follow. If we could get a forum or sub-forums per phone dedicated to rooting, overclocking etc. that would be awesome!

1. My browsing is fine, actually a little bit faster because of the overclock.
2. I think you could delete them off of the SD because it's already flashed to the rom. Plus everytime you reflash with SMU (sholes mod updater, but im getting sick of typing that) it redownloads the rom.
I am a noob when it comes to linux and android so i was debating or not whether to root or not. I was reading and reading until I came along to this post. I was really impressed by how easy it sounded so I decided to give it a shot. Just finished a few minutes ago, and will keep everyone updated.
so glad that the audio bug was fixed with the headphones. however, seems like this only applies to listening to MP3s on the phone and not with apps like Slacker. i'm still getting the bug where if i unplugged the headphones after exiting Slacker, the volumes for the entire phone is super low. i have to plug and unplug the headphones again to reset the volume back to normal.
Mhmm, not sure there Hopefully someone else will be able to help
Oh, I'm really dumb. I was looking in my applications and found the Updater you were referring to. LOL. It's installing now. *crossing my fingers* Thank you for replying.

****************************************** SholesMod Updater 2.0.1 Step by Step (Sticky?)
I thought I would do a proper Step by Step tutorial for anyone wanting to install this on their Droid, and hopefully this will help answer most peoples questions. I had already done all this to my Droid, but since I didn't document it I decided to do it all over again to help you guys out.
SholesMod Updater will backup all of your existing data, but if you would rather be safe than sorry do a backup of your stuff before continuing.
If you have WiFi, go ahead and enable it now as it will make the download process go by much faster.
Here we go:
1. Go to Android Marketplace
2. Search for SholesMod Updater, donate your $5 and download the app (or download from Sholes)
3. Open SholesMod Updater
4. "Your phone is not rooted". Select Root my Phone (update.zip will download to your SD card)
5. When you get the "Reboot into recovery mode message", press the home button and power off the phone
5. Reboot into recovery mode by holding the X key on the keyboard while powering on.
6. When the MOTO logo changes to recovery (white triangle with yellow exclamation point and phone picture ) press and hold the volume up button and then press the camera button
7. Once in the menu select Apply sdcard:update.zip with D-pad and select with center button
8. Once it's done applying update.zip select reboot with D-pad and select with center button
Congratulations! Your Droid is now rooted, but we're not done just yet. If all went well, you should see a new icon in your app drawer called Superuser Permissions.
Part 2:
1. Open SholesMod Updater
2. When prompted with the SU Request, click on Remember and then select Allow
3. The screen goes black and only says SholesMod Updater on the top (if it stays like that more than about a minute press the home button and relaunch the app)
4. The app will now download the recovery.img file to your SD card
5. You'll now get a cute message saying that if you continue your warranty will be voided
6. Select "I understand the risk"
7. Are you really sure? (of course you're sure)
8. Select Flash Recovery Image
9. Select a ROM (SholesMod 2.0.1: Bitchin Bagel) and click Select
10. sholesmod-2.0.1.rom.tgz will now download to your SD card (92.97MB... aren't you glad you enabled WiFi?)
11. We are ready to flash the ROM. Select Flash ROM. (phone will reboot automatically)
12. Welcome to SPRecovery. Use the volume up and down buttons to move between menu options, the camera button to select them, and the power button to back out of a menu
13. At this point all of your data is being backed up and the ROM is being installed
14. Wipe data? (Say yes if you're using 2.1) Select your option with volume up/down and select with camera button
15. Choose your bashrc (for adb shell). If you have no clue what this means, just select Windows Non-Colored and press the camera button
16. The following screen are packages that you want to install (take the asterisk off any package you don't want/need)
17. When done selecting the packages you want, go back to the top and select Finished
18. Select packages to install (continued)
* JIT (breakage!)
* HQ Video
* 2.0 Lockscreen Vibrate Mod
* FLAC Support (Work in progress)
* Milestone 2.0.0 Widgets
* G1 IM app
* SMUpdater
19. When done selecting the packages you want, go back to the top and select Finished
20. The following screen are packages you want REMOVED not installed (place and asterisk next to any package you don't want on your phone)
21. When done selecting the packages you want removed, go back to the top and select Finished
22. Select the gallery to install and press the camera button
24. Select Maps to install and press the camera button
* 2.1 (multitouch)
* 2.0.1 (stock/no multitouch)
25. Select the theme to install and press the camera button
* None
* Smoked Glass
26. At this point everything gets installed and the phone reboots
Congratulations! Your Droid has now taken on a new life. It's now a good time to go to the Android Marketplace and purchase SetCPU. This will give you the ability to overclock the CPU from th stock 550Mhz speed to 800Mhz or even 1Ghz. Make sure that when you run SetCPU for the first time you choose Autodetect. If you selected Droid don't worry. Once you're in the app, just hit the menu button and select Device Selection. Slide the Max bar to 800000 or 100000, hit refresh and you're all done.
ENJOY!!! http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-applications/20717-sholesmod-updater-2-0-1-step-step-sticky.html

I am now having problems with Google Maps and the 2.02 rom. When I install the MT maps (using SM Updater), it runs but all other programs that access the maps (like car locator, where, places) f/c. If I go back into SM Updater and use the regular google maps without multitouch, every other map program works but the original google maps force closes. Damn if I do, damn if I don't. Any suggestions????

Having the same problem, not sure what's up with it.
Are there any free temp monitoring programs? I havent downloaded setcpu yet but my droid has been feeling really hot to the touch whenever im using it. Especially around the camera area. Im assuming this is where the CPU is located? Is this normal or am I imagining it after installing the sholes mod?
I believe the only temp monitor the device has is for the battery, you can access this information by pressing "system info" in setCPU, the first line displays the battery temp. I'm at 31c right now after waking it for reference.
I took the plunge and went for it. Installed with a breeze. Actually didn't select/deselect the things I wanted the first time and wasn't a huge fan of the smoke theme so I simply went through the process again and it worked just as well as the first time. Went through the motions and all my apps were still there, contacts, settings, etc. So I am extremely happy with it so far. Going to purchase setCPU in a few minutes and surely that will help even more. GPS works, and I didn't have the Maps Fc issues that a poster had a few posts back. All the MT functions work well. The ONLY thing for me that seems to not be working properly is Weatherbug. When I go to see the radar screen, the app FC's. But all other functions of that app work. I downloaded The Weather Channel app and don't have an issue with it all so I may stick with that one instead.
200% worth the $5.

Seems about the same for me. Took a few quick pics...the 'going back to live view' after taking a pic may have sped up minimally. But overall quality is still the same as before rooting.
I dont know if this is related or not, but yesterday(Friday) i installed and rooted my Droid with this and today i have not received any of my emails without loading them manually and i also had to reenter my facebook info today, which i have never had to do since i first got the phone. May just be a coincidence, has anyone else had a problem with there gmail and/or facebook accounts since they have used SMupdater?

I reflashed the update and still force closes on maps. Last week voice search force closes every time I tried it for about 24 hrs then started working again. Hopefully the same will happen with Maps. Could be a problem on googles end?
just clicked on the app again to reflash and it offered 2.02 instead of 2.03... Flashed and maps works again. 2.02 is working GREAT for me, I think I'll stick with it until I hear good things about future updates.
I updated and mine still says 2.02....I wonder why it isnt saying 2.03...but has anyone taken any pictures and having them not show up in the gallery? I take a picture and its in my camera app but the picture doesnt show up in the gallery....anyone know why?

I *Think* this may be a bug with the new gallery. I have had this happen. Force killing the gallery(with a task manager) then restarting it fixes it for me.
I by luck managed to solve the map problem by reflashing and biting the bullet and selecting "wipe data." It must have cleared some old map data or settings and now the map and applications that use the map are running well. Actually, giving my Droid such an enema and reinstalling everything actually has the entire phone running better. Another fine mess I somehow gotten myself out of...

I didn't have to wipe my data, but it took two tries flashing again for it to work. Running 2.02. I'll just avoid updates unless I know there isn't a problem with it.
